Im a dental student in France, i have practiced at the hospital only for a year and I do not feel ready for the new academic year (5th year of study).
I had clinic 2 days a week which is not that much, ive done 3 endodontic treatments on monoradicular teeth, removed decays, scaling and root planing but not enough prosthodontic, I prepared one tooth for post and a core with a crown; I havent done full or partial dentures .I Still lack dexterity.
If you are a student or a dentist what piece of advice would you give me to get better in the field of dentistry?

My teeth aren't in the best condition. I need some help with where I can go. I dont have dental insurance. Waco family medicine has cut alot of what they used to offer. Now they only offer fillings, extractions, and cleaning. They sent me to a different clinic and they wanted 300 just to be seen. I know my tooth is abscessed. Ive already had to have 2 teeth removed. I want to help preserve my teeth that I have left. Any recommendations of where I can go? Or what I can do?

Had an upper crown put in a couple months ago been in pain ever since. Had X-rays done no infections are shown. Dentist said maybe tmj but the pain is localized to my tooth and awful. Should I get another opinion

Hey everyone, I have a question. I've noticed that I only get a sharp pain when I chew sticky, sugary foods (like biscuits or gummy sweets. If I chew foods with a similar texture that aren't sugary, I don't get any pain. I also don't have pain when chewing regular foods. Has anyone experienced this before, or know what it could mean?

Hi I need some advice! I have gotten 3 root canals in the past 5 weeks (lower right 5 weeks ago, upper right 4 weeks ago, upper left about 3 weeks ago). I was having some cold sensitivity on the teeth behind the root canals on the right side and the endodontist said it was reversible (that tooth did have a filling) and gave me a steroid pack. That was about 2 weeks ago. I have since gotten the two crowns on the right a week ago and got the left crown done yesterday. They also did a bite adjustment for me yesterday. I am still having some cold sensitivity on that right side and I am having ear and jaw pain. Is this normal? I don’t know what it normal or not anymore because this whole process has been awful! I got a total of 6 fillings in April that have led to this and 3 of them needed root canals. A couple of them were in-between my teeth. What are the odds I’m heading for a root canal with the others? Any advice would help!

As an avid flosser, I’ve always bought the big spools of Glide from a medical supplier. I recently repurchased a new refill pack and I could cry. It’s horrible. What can I do besides scouring eBay for the good stuff? What other decent flosses exist?

While taxiing on my flight to Key West, tooth cracked on some trail mix. Filling popped out, and I can feel the hole. The outer half of the tooth is moving, the inner half is in place. Paid $8 for inflight WiFi, and found an emergency dentist 9 minutes from the airport.

Need some help with this.

Here is my current morning routine.

• I get up at around 7am

• rinse my mouth with water thoroughly

• Drink 2 glasses of warm water (This specifically kick starts my bowel movements)

• Then do some work out for about an hour

• At around 9am or so I brush my teeth and have breakfast at or after 11am (intermittent fasting)

• I use waterpik after every meal

• at night, I floss, brush and then sleep.

My current thinking is since I brush before sleeping AND thoroughly rinse my mouth with water after getting up, I am ok to brush later in the day before breakfast. Is this ok or should I be brushing before even having water?

The reason I like to brush later is so that I can leave the toothpaste residue (after spitting out) on my teeth for at least 30 mins. If I brush first thing in the morning, I can't do that.

Is this ok to do or are there problems with this?

Hey so my nightguard cracked and I won’t able to get seen by a dentist til a week from now. What do I do? Is there places I can buy a temporary nightguard?

Apologies if this ends up being nothing much/overreacting, I have severe dental anxiety and do not handle anything teeth related well, LOL.

I just got my wisdom teeth out on the 17th. All four (two top, two bottom) were removed, and I was overdue for them to be removed by a few years. I also had a gingivectomy done while I was under, as I had teeth with major cavities that were entirely covered by gums.

I've been eating solid foods for about 3-ish days now, and while it's been kind of painful (especially if i accidentally chew with my side teeth), it hasn't been anything too bad. However, tonight I'm in a little more pain than usual. It's in both cheeks, though earlier it was just in my left cheek. It's like a hot, tingly persisting soreness that doesn't go away, even with ibuprofen. When my teeth slightly touch, or when I make facial expressions it hurts was worse.

I don't feel anymore stitches hanging in my mouth anymore, but when i feel to where it's sore in my cheeks, I can feel something kind of rough (maybe more stitches?). Yesterday I had a bowl of chilli with tortilla chips, and today I had spaghetti with a few pieces of chicken.

I am, again, severely anxious about the dentist so I may be overthinking this. Is this a normal pain from eating? Could it be from the gingivectomy/cavities? Am I perfectly fine, and just need to relax, or do I need to see a dentist?

Hi everyone! I had a deep cavity on the lower 6th tooth like a half a year ago and it was treated and filled with equia to let it heal over time.

Last week I woke up with sharp pain and went to the dentist. They opened up the tooth and said that pulp is damaged and needs a root canal. Fine it is what it is.

HERE is the interesting part!

They filled the tooth back up with a white puddy which apparently is to mumify the tooth nerves and perform the root canal after 2 weeks.

Two days after this, I get a pain from the 7th tooth, not sharp or unberable but like a mild pain where the whole tooth is sore to the touch and painful and also the tooth is lifted and now I cannot close the mouth fully nor eat normally. What I read online it points out to being gas pressure from the toxic white puddy/paste but nothing concrete. Dentist is telling me that most likely they will need to perform root canal on the 7th tooth as well to which it does not sound right to me, given that this happened 2 days after treating the 6th tooth.

For refference the 7th tooth is also filled with equia but it was not rotten down to the nerves, and never had a problem with it since it was treated.

Is there any experienced dentist here that might solve the mystery? Thanks

Has any practice owner ever refinanced an associate's student loans in exchange for a long-term commitment?

I'm a new associate dentist with around $400k in student loans, and I've been thinking about a possible arrangement with my practice owner.

My idea is to ask whether he'd be willing to directly refinance or pay off my student loans, and in return I'd commit to staying with the practice under a contract until the debt is repaid (with terms that protect both of us).

I'm curious whether anyone has actually structured a deal like this.

For practice owners:

• Have you ever done something similar?
• Are there any tax advantages, business deductions, or other financial benefits that could make an arrangement like this attractive?
• Is there a better way to structure it than simply paying off or refinancing my loans?

For associates:

• Have you seen or negotiated a similar agreement?
• What pitfalls should I be thinking about before bringing this idea up?

I'm just trying to figure out whether this is a realistic proposal or if there are better ways to align incentives for both the owner and the associate. I'd appreciate any insight or experiences.

I NEED a root canal treatment which is too complex for my local nhs dentist.

I have been referred to a private clinic, they will be charging me the following

£120 check up
Upto £850 root canal
(No payment plan either)

Furthermore, I will need a crown put which can be done at my NHS dentist for £330.

I actually have another tooth that is awaiting for a crown, which is another £330

Thankfully, my employer is partnered with Vitality Dental scheme, which will cover me for upto £400.

However, this is still a substantial amount, for me personally. I understand that this is totally worth it on the long run, but money is short atm.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to navigate this financial situation?

I've been undergoing orthodontic treatment at a Clove Dental branch in Chennai, but I'm currently based in Bangalore. From the very beginning, both the clinic and my orthodontist knew that I had to travel from Bangalore to Chennai for every appointment.

The problem is that Clove repeatedly informed me about appointments with almost no notice. On multiple occasions, I was told just a day or two in advance, and once I was even informed 10 minutes before the clinic closed. Expecting someone to arrange intercity travel with that kind of notice just isn't realistic.

These weren't appointments I willingly skipped—I simply couldn't make them because of how they were scheduled and communicated.

After returning to Bangalore, I tried coordinating future appointments through the clinic. That turned into another headache. Clove doesn't allow patients to directly contact their treating orthodontist, so I had to rely entirely on the clinic to relay messages. Even that didn't happen reliably, despite me repeatedly explaining my travel constraints.

At one point, my orthodontist even mentioned she'd share her email to make communication easier. I never received it.

To make matters worse, she's available at that branch only during the last week of the month, making scheduling even harder.

At this point, continuing treatment in Chennai has become impractical, so I requested a transfer to a Clove branch in Bangalore. Their response? Pay ₹1,000 as a transfer fee.

What frustrates me is that the only reason I need this transfer is because of Clove's own communication and scheduling failures. If appointments had been coordinated properly, I would've happily continued treatment at the original branch.

The irony is that it would probably cost me less to make another trip to Chennai than to pay this transfer fee.

I've asked them to waive the charge and escalate the matter if necessary, but I'm curious:

Has anyone else dealt with something similar at Clove? Is this transfer fee standard, and do you think it's reasonable to charge a patient when the transfer became necessary because of the clinic's own operational issues?

This is my testimonial of the experience I’ve had with Aspen Dental. The experience is my own, and all of the details are 100% true.

In 2019 I went to Aspen Dental and was given a quote for the full scale of work I needed done.

The work: full removal of every tooth, top and bottom. Installation of permanent dentures in the top, and temporary removable dentures for the bottom (connected by 2 metal fasteners in the lower jaw) with the intention of upgrading to permanent dentures on the bottom. (Cost)

In early February, 2020, I had my teeth removed. The plan was after healing they would install the dentures. Covid 19 delayed me receiving the implants until December, 2020. Almost a year on a soft food diet. I understood, no worries, Dr Gillan in Orlando is awesome. He got it done as fast as it could be done.

Then, I moved across Florida to Bradenton on the west coast. When I went to the Bradenton Aspen office they refused to work on my dentures. Said they weren’t even allowed to take them out to clean them. I asked why, he couldn’t say. Referred me back to my Orlando office, 4 hours away.

I called the Orlando office and was told that denying to clean my teeth was odd, they didn’t know why it was an issue at that office. They sent me to the Sarasota office about 40 minutes south.

The Sarasota office refused to help me, said they couldn’t and referred me back to Orlando. Then we tried Tampa, same story.

Had to drive 4 hours across Florida to have my teeth worked on at my original office, then 4 hours back home.

I’m a 50 year old man. That hurt, physically and mentally.

I’ve since moved back home to Indiana to help take care of my Mother. I’m experiencing wear and tear issues, and feeling fractures in the denture that are making the teeth loose.

I went to Aspen in Valparaiso, the closest branch, (an hour north of me), and was told that they couldn’t help me because that office didn’t have an Aspen lab to do the work, to pull the dentures out and clean them I had to go to a branch with a lab.

Fair enough, is this why no one else would help me? Seems easy enough to explain, why would I have so much trouble getting help?

I decided to call the Aspen customer support line for help finding an Aspen branch that has a lab in house that can do the work.

Here’s the rub: CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TELLING ME THAT MY $50,000 DENTAL INVESTMENT IS ONLY WARRANTED AT THE ORIGINAL LOCATION I GOT THE WORK DONE AT!!!!!!!

The WHOLE REASON I CHOSE Aspen was its network availability, I knew I would eventually be back home and they assured me every Aspen dental can do the work.

This was apparently a lie. Apparently the ENTIRE business model, from the customer facing side, is a bait and switch.

I’m waiting on a call from a “regional manager” that the corporate customer service set up. That doesn’t feel like I’m going to get anywhere.

Here I am, losing faith in Aspen …and they don’t care.

Fun Side Note: Each and EVERY branch I’ve been to for help has offered to upgrade my teeth to the cubic sarconia all one piece dentures …. The cost? Oh, just another $15,000.

I’m telling you this because people need to know.

I have no recourse, a regional manager won’t magically change their corporate philosophy.

I’ve kept very detailed records, calls, visits, names, locations. Every document they’ve given me. All ready for litigation if they continue this abuse.

Honestly, the moderator for this little sub will probably just remove my post.

Spent a year saving half the money needed, my proton, and insurance paid the rest. My portion was roughly $20,000 out of pocket.
