Discussion A tweet that has me thinking.

I don’t know if Riot can copy what valve has created with Deadlock. The atmosphere and setting so what I think makes deadlock so enjoyable. Yes the gameplay is amazing and the moba aspects are great but I just don’t think riot will even try to copy valve and make a deadlock clone. What is all y’all’s thoughts.

Discussion Will deadlock ever have it's winton overwat character?

I've been trying out new heroes as I play deadlock and i keep coming back to this one thing, deadlock doesnt have its winston and that makes me sad.

Before you suggest someone just let me please explain what i mean by a winston, because it's not just "big friendly nerd gorilla." it's the hero who's the face of the game, the one on the menu and the trailers, who stays loved no matter what the meta does. you don't get that from stats, you get it from a hero people are happy to see win and enjoy playing against. and that only holds up if he's fun on both sides, the kind where even the people losing don't resent him. It might be a niche ask but I'd love to see a hero like that in deadlock.

There's a couple that I guess are kind of similar in concept such as rem and viscous with viscous being the most winston coded hero in deadlock but its just not the same, a lot of it comes down to the gameplay and not just the backstory/lore. Because the thing that makes winston winston isn't just the backstory, it's that he's clean. almost no CC in the whole kit, no stun, no hook, no slow, just primal, and primal is a hard skill check. bad players leap in and feed, good players make it look unfair. so when i lose to a winston I almost never feel cheesed, i feel outplayed by someone who had to have actual game sense. the tell for me is that even at the height of the dive meta in overwatch people wanted to nerf the comp, but the hate never landed on winston himself. he stayed beloved at the top of the meta because losing to him felt earned, because he didnt just stunlock/statcheck you, he has to put in the work. he's the heart of the game and the most honest matchup in it at the same time. I don't know if this hero is even possible in Deadlock given its a moba and not a pure hero shooter, but I'd sure like one.

winton...

Edit: If you think Abrams is anything even close to a winston type character you do NOT understand winton overwat

Discussion We should never let this game turn into another Dota or CS community. The Deadlock community needs to stay inclusive, respectful, and welcoming to everyone.

We cannot have a surrender button on deadlock as much as it sucks to play some games because these fucking league players have the weakest mentals of all time bro it is embarrassing and I fear deadlock players will also have the same weak mental if we add one

Discussion If we want more experimental patches, we need to be more open and less hating about it.

Post image

Regarding the recent urn changes and the major shake up in the game as a whole, this is your daily reminder that the game is still WIP and this is the perfect time for them to experiment crazy things. And during the "experiment crazy things" phase, sometimes the game will be totally unbalanced/messy, and that's totally fine for a game that's not fully released yet.

I voted for more experimental updates on the latest survey, and i want to be saying "do you remember that crazy urn patch during the beta?" in the next years. Let's contribute to the chaos a bit and stop pretending like the game's gonna die when it's not even born yet.

Discussion Can't imagine how many new players this game just permenantly lost.

2.8k Upvotes

I say as one myself, after trying this game again with friends who were really interested we we're thrown into lobbies with people that have 1000s of hours (plainly said by 70% of our opponents when we asked in chat). By the end of the day, all of them never had any interest in reinstalling deadlock.

I was confused because with the massive influx of players i thought "surely there are other noobs right?" and after doing investigation, i can see this was a universal experience for everyone intrigued by the new update.

Turns out instead of starting you at the bottom ranks, this game - for whatever reason beyond my comprehension - puts you at ABOVE AVERAGE RANK (most of us placed archon or oracle) and REFUSES to adjust you down fast enough that you'd be required to sit there and lose 100 games in a row BEFORE YOU GET TO PLAY WITH THE OTHER. NOOBS. Generational fumble by valve.

I garuntee 99% of these players that otherwise would have played have already had the worst first impression and will not be back for full launch, so don't tell me "uhm it's alpha, that's not their priority right now!" or "MOBAs are hard, go try bots or watch a video!" Seriously fuck off, the game is legitimately unplayable for anyone trying deadlock and it sucks because i think the game is otherwise really fun

So PLEASE for your sake and ours, speak up to the devs because we know you don't want us in ur games and we desperately just want to play with other noobs. Thanks

UPDATE: noobs rejoice! They fixed the ranking for us and now we're in seeker and the games are 1000x better

Discussion Dynamo is one of the best representations of fat people

Post image
4.5k Upvotes

I saw a youtube video a while back talking about how video games typically only portray fat people as lazy, slobby and overall dislikeable characters where their main selling point is that theyre comedically fat.

I think aside from Bob from Tekken, Dynamo has cemented himself as one of the best representations of chunkiness, he's a professor at one of the best universities. He's an incredible husband and a caring man to everyone. No one hates this guy.

Now I know what you're gonna say "Oh but that isnt his body thats just a body built for him" In counter argument im headcannoning that he asked for his big round bellay. Yes he could have had a shredded chiseled 8 pack and the v taper of a dorito but he knows that deep down hes a fat boy at heart.

Discussion Thanks Valve, turn more of my favorite spirit ability characters into brainless gun characters!

The cycle:

-Character is strong

-People point that out

-Valve tries balancing

-Fuck it just turn the character into gunslop

Like, are we serious? I want drain tank Victor, not the unkillable immovable object one nor the I respawn every 50 seconds die under walker gun pew pew one. I want ground slam spirit Lash, I want summoner Graves. Please, don't make gun viable for characters that are supposed to be enjoyed otherwise.

Got really cool designs, really fun gameplay, there's something for everyone, feels like the game is truly finding its special sauce.

Got many archetypes that were missing in one go.

So happy to see this.

Discussion Please NEVER add a surrender button.

2.3k Upvotes

Title. There has been an uncountable amount of games I've won that seemed completely lost, but our team locked in and we managed an insane comeback. This wouldn't be possible if people started spamming surrender the moment they die twice in laning phase.

The comeback mechanics in this game are extremely strong, thus I feel like adding the option to surrender would be counter-intuitive, especially in lower elos where players may not realize how winnable a game actually is even if the enemy team is extremely ahead.

Thoughts?
