Just got both Bazan Monthly Vol 1 and 2 on vinyl. First spin and I have to say they sound amazing! Yuki Matthews and TW Walsh did a great job mixing and mastering these. These are going to be in heavy rotation. I never really dived deep into these tracks at the time but these versions are something special.

There was an all-day music festival in Harrisburg, PA with Joy Electric headlining and a bunch of other bands from the Christian indie scene like The Julies, Velour 100, and a few others. There was also a band called Pedro the Lion that none of us had heard of. My friends and I decided that since we didn't know the band it was a good time to sneak out and grab dinner at Eat N' Park so we could get back in time for Joy Electric. Whoops! I wouldn't get into PTL until around 2001 or so, when my roommate was a huge fan and introduced me to his albums right before Control came out. I would eventually see Pedro live around 2004 at Messiah College with Starflyer 59. Somehow both times I've had a chance to see Pedro the Lion live one of the Martin brothers was involved.

Probably more suited for r/pedrothelion because iirc that was the name he was under at the time, but in the mid 2000s there was a YouTube video of Pedro / Bazan doing a really kickass cover of Neil Young's "Revolution Blues".
His cover is what introduced me to the song, but like many other things on the streaming world, I have been unable to find it for probably a decade now. Really miss his vocals, especially on the final verse: "but I hate them worse than lepers..."
Dreaming of finding that old recording one day.

My wife loves the song Helicopter by Pedro the Lion. I have been looking for a way to purchase or stream the song online. Learning that the song was only released on vinyl, with less than 1,000 copies. Does anyone know where to find the song?
I found an old recording that includes the song in the set, but looking to purchase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfsuQLdMyQQ&list=RDvfsuQLdMyQQ&start_radio=1&t=853s

I recently upgraded my audio set up and have been listening to my collection with new found appreciation for vinyl quality now that my new system adds depth and detail I didn't have before.
Spinning Phoenix & Havasu now and am stunned at how good the pressings are. As good as anything I've heard yet. Hoping to find some time for Santa Cruz tonight.
That's it - wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Years ago Dave posted a cover of TW Walsh's "Make It Rhyme," and I think he sold it as a single for a benefit of some kind? In the years since, I can't find this recording anywhere, or even a mention of its existence. Did I make the whole thing up?

I've been working on remixing the whole Control album in my spare time. and by 'remix' I mean just taking Dave's vocals and writing new music. I was asked by Dave's management not to officially release it, and I plan to adhere to that.
I figured you guys might enjoy it though, so I've put it on Soundcloud to share with friends. Thanks for listening!

I watched two of the earlier shows on the live stream; sound was great and tickets are only $10. I think you have 48 hours to watch.

I used to sing Lullaby from Whole EP to my kids when they were babies. Rest easy, little [insert kid's name] and dry all your tears...' so I have a real soft spot for that one.
This album's genius is showing the lose/lose of going all in on fundamentalism. David's storytelling prowess is on full display.

Refound this video and wanted to share here. Recorded this during a Q&A at a house show in Moscow, Idaho on 04/23/2009.
My best friend and I were at this show and he asked Dave about his thoughts on OK Computer and his rendition of Let Down. Dave showed him how to play it with a capo then plays an acoustic version of Cold Beer and Cigarettes.
That friend(also named Dave) and I played music together for the next 15 years and even formed a band called Douglas Fir Coats and would play our own cover of Let Down inspired by this.
My Dave lost his battle with colon cancer just days before last Christmas and it's been difficult without him. Coming across this video and seeing one of his favorite artists of all time teach him to play a song that would become a staple of our setlist was really special for me and I wanted to share it.
I also got tickets to all of the 30th Anniversary Pedro shows here in Seattle and it's been amazing reliving all these songs and memories we shared over the years. The two of us wouldn't miss a show when Pedro or Dave were playing in Seattle so it feels like he is there with me.
