I caved and bought Vanessa Bell (I couldn’t help myself!) - she is so stunning and I don’t see much of her online so is she underrated?

A really subtle scent but her colour is magnificent! She looked so pretty with her raindrops the other day šŸ’›

First time buying a rose bush

I have to say, the photo on the tag really doesn’t do this one justice.

The first photo is from this morning. The last photo is the one my husband sent me from the nursery - I had sent him to pick up a rose for his mom, and while he was there he started sending me photos of all the roses they had. I told him to grab this one for us too. šŸ˜‚

So far I haven’t seen a single bloom that’s the pure yellow shown on the tag, but I’m not complaining. I absolutely love the peachy, apricot, and blush tones it has!

RIP David. I find peace in the thought of this beautiful little bee landing and sitting on your knee while your up in heaving sitting on the clouds looking down at everyone in their gardens enjoying your beautiful roses.

My girl is thriving! Zone 7a; planted from bare root just this April. I’ve been diligently deadheading and I suppose it’s paid off!

Which rose should I get next?

I currently have queen of Sweden, Olivia rose Austin, Vanessa bell, Darcy bussell, the poets wife, roald daul, mayflower, Gertrude jeykell, Thomas a Beckett, and Desdemona. I typically only go for shrub roses. What rose do you think I should get? Please keep in mind it will grow in a container.

Find retailers

David Austin used to have a feature on their website that would allow you see where their roses are sold. I can’t find it anymore. Is it still there? If not, how to find out if your local nurseries have them? I’ve called 5 with no luck.

First time growing DA roses. Got them from the website this spring. Gertrude and OWH look like they are supposed to but this bloom is throwing me off. It is the first bloom of the season so maybe it looks like this? Can anyone help. I am in zone 6a and in the south east facing balcony. Thanks!

Mystery solved: Reach out to DA customer support and they think it is Jude the Obscure! Thank you all for your help!

I planted these two Clair Austin roses at the end of May. What am I doing wrong?! The one with yellowing leaves was sprouting new leaves and now those same leaves died out of nowhere in the last couple days.

You can only choose one! It can be any variety, any color, but you only get one.

I’ll start. For me, it’s Olivia Rose Austin. Ive loved it since the moment I saw it and it is a star performer in our garden. We will always have one from now on.

Container roses in the winter

This is my first year with David Austin roses. I have ā€œThe Poets Wifeā€ in a huge ceramic pot. Is there anything I need to do for it during the winter? Or will it go dormant just like it would in the ground? Thanks in advance!

Short lived?

I have a Queen of Sweden, which was planted a few months back. I’ve seen three roses on it so far, each time the rose lasts for two days max. After two days all the petals fall off all at once. Is that the normal cycle of this rose? Seems dramatic!

SOS - What am I doing wrong?

Guys. I’m not okay. I posted this Gertrude Jeckyl on 6/24 and it had a bloom (although it was not a pink bloom and I’m not sure it’s a Gertrude) but it was green and blooming okay.

We’ve had a pretty intense heatwave and I’ve been watering it and today it’s cooled down and is raining.

I just went over to check it out and it looks like it’s dying! How did this happen so rapidly? I’m freaking out.

On my last post someone indicated that it looked like an animal was eating the leaves so I put down animal repellant granules. I also sprayed all my plants early one morning with Neem oil. I also watered with some MaxSea a week or so ago. I’m really trying here. Any advice?

What’s Going On with My Carding Mill?

Hi everyone!

I’m very new to English Roses and got my first one this spring! This is Carding Mill and she was blooming like the pictures until this bloom. I’m not sure if this is normal, has anyone seen anything like this before?

She is in a terracotta pot and the first picture was her second bloom. The pinker one was the third bloom/today.

It’s still very beautiful and we are in a terrible heat wave with heavy rain here and there randomly, but I water it when it’s dry.

Just wondering if I need to do anything because I love them and they were pretty pricey (at least to me).

Any thoughts appreciated!

I got these in March and planted them in 22 inch pots. First year and they have already blessed me with blooms!
