Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s been so supportive and kind.

I never thought in a millionnaire years anyone would pay attention so sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate each and every one of you.

some people have been requesting updates, so every week that goes by I will include the total weight loss with the video.

Please feel free to request songs… I will do my best to accommodate everybody

I've been wanting to find a new physical hobby to get into, and dancing seems interesting. What would you recommend for someone with no previous experience?

Amateur Taking care of my knees

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I started dancing as an adult in 2017, but only 1h a week. 7 months ago circumstances changed and now I can and do dance for 6hours a fortnight and at a harder skill and fitness level (3 lots of 2h classes in the fortnight). I do predominantly floor work. I wear expensive knee pads, I have the Tatiana active and also bloch pro dance. But I still get knee pain. What are you all doing after or before class to care for your knees? I feel like during class im doing the right thing with stretching/warm up and knee pads.

Thankful for any advice you have

Discussion Footage of Alvin Ailey the dancer

Upvotes

Hi all,

I've seen only a few short clips of Alvin Ailey the dancer, and I would really like to find some more. Does anyone know of any full performances, or where to find footage?

Thanks.

Discussion Any traditional central european dancers here?

Hello! I am a german speaker from the USA who is interested learning from people who professionally participate in Polka and Waltz dances. I'm in a volunteer dance group in the middle of the USA and I am especially interested in hearing the perspective of people from Germany or Poland. I have a Lederhosen costume that I am required to wear every Oktoberfest. Please reach out to me if you know anyone!

Discussion I cried after my first dance class

It’s the first time in 13 years since I last learned how to dance. I’m 34 and today I had my first heel dance one on one class with my teacher. It was intense but it was fun and I felt very refreshed afterwards.

On my way home I started feeling emotional and as soon as I got home, I balled my eyes out like a baby. It felt like an emotional release, as if I was letting go of stress and emotions that I think might been building up inside. I really enjoyed my class, I like the teacher and i’m excited to learn more. But for some reason I feel very emotional afterwards. Is this normal? Never had this happen to me before.

Discussion Getting over fear of dancing

I never danced growing up, and it does not come naturally to me at all. I used to joke that if I didn’t know what dancing was, it never would have even occurred to me.

However, I’ve been with my boyfriend for around 7 months now, and dancing is really important to him. I never minded going to clubs, because I was content to just move very minimally and hang out and drink. But my boyfriend is there to DANCE. He’s not amazing, but he doesn’t give a shit what people think, and it’s clear that he’s in his body and is having so much fun.

Seeing him have so much fun honestly makes me feel really, really insecure. I’m incredibly stiff and anxious, and it also makes me really sad that it’s so hard for me to let go and have fun. It’s gotten to the point where even imagining myself dancing has made me cry. Dancing is also a way that my boyfriend wants to connect with me, and it hurts for me to not be able to give him that.

All this to say, has anyone been in this situation and gotten over their fear? Or better yet, actually learned to enjoy dancing? I’d love to hear ideas.

Also, obligatory yes I’m in therapy and clearly have some anxiety/inhibitions.

Discussion Keeping upright posture in jazz dance when doing isolations?

I only have a little experience in ballet so my way of upright posture might be incorrect.

When doing isolations in jazz, I'm unsure about how much tension I should have. If I try to lengthen the spine to the max as I do in ballet, the isolations are controlled but tense and there's not much range. If I relax too much, I can have a very smooth isolation with good range, but I lose my alignment.

Is posture in ballet the same as in jazz? Or should I be relaxed while keeping alignment?
