I am staying in Damascus, and it would be cool to get some updates on events in the city. Do you know a page for this, or do you have any concrete recommendations? Like concerts (oud concert would be great), cinema, gyms, sport clubs, places to see and visit, your fav restaurant etc? Let me know pleasee <3

I’m a journalist from Denmark writing for Stud.Jur, the largest student magazine in Denmark, read by thousands of people interested in law, politics, and society.

A photographer and I will soon be traveling to Damascus to report on Syria’s ongoing transitional justice process, including the legal efforts to hold members of the former Assad regime accountable.

We’re hoping to speak with lawyers, judges, legal researchers, human rights organizations and survivors. We want to understand how these proceedings are unfolding, what challenges remain, and what justice means to the people most affected.

Hello everyone.

I'd like to run the Damascus Marathon. The only information I can find is on the official site (https://damascusmarathon.org/) which says it'll be in "November 2026" and a worldwide marathon site which says it'll be "early November 2026".

Does anyone have any ideas when it might be? I just want to be able to plan as far in advance as possible (flights from the UK etc).

I’m 23 years old, from Austria, and I would really like to visit Syria. I already know that to get a visa, I usually need to apply through a tour agency.

Ideally, I’d like to stay for 3–4 days and mainly explore the city. Do you have any ideas on how to find cheaper tour agencies? Most offers I’ve seen are over €1500.

I understand that I won’t get the cheapest possible option, and I don’t want to disrespect the work of guides or agencies — I just feel that €1500+ for only 4 days is very expensive.

Do you know if there are any other ways to get a visa? And if there are alternative options, would anyone maybe be interested in showing me around Damascus? Of course I’d be happy to pay something as well.

Hi everyone. I'm an American undergraduate planning to spend the summer in Damascus working on an independent research project. I have some local contacts (business and government) who can help with practical logistics, but no formal institutional backing beyond maybe some monetary grants I am applying for (no university program, NGO, etc.). For context, I speak MSA and am working on my Levantine, and have spent summers in Morocco and Jordan.

I am basically wondering whether this would be worth attempting, how difficult/scary it would be, and whether you all know of anyone doing this sort of thing.
