FYI these photos were from a year or two ago when I first got a camera and didn't have a lot of equipment--they're the bottom of the barrel for what I should be able to do.

I’ve been researching the old outdoor warning siren at 3622 Magdeline Street in West Dallas — it’s a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000, one of the loud mechanical sirens that can cut through storm noise way better than the newer electronic ones.

Right now, the area around Magdeline, Norwich, and Singleton has some coverage gaps because the newer sirens don’t reach every part of the neighborhood or the industrial yards. This older siren is still standing, still intact, and even has its upgraded radio receiver, but it’s been powered off for years and locked behind a fence.

I put together a petition asking the City of Dallas to inspect it, do the small maintenance it needs, and return it to service. Restoring it would improve tornado warning coverage for both residents and workers in the area.
