Megathread: Moving here/What is this block like?
Hi r/crownheights!
There have been a number of posts lately and historically asking very vague questions about the safety and general vibe of blocks around our great neighborhood. While these aren't inherently bad or imprudent questions to ask before moving here we believe this sub's postings would be better served by more in depth engagement.
From now on, per Rule 7, general "is this intersection safe" posts will be removed and referred to this thread, where everyone can talk about their blocks/parts of the neighborhood. You can post your questions and search the answers below if you're looking to move here, and current residents can speak to what they love, brag about the best spots and events, and vent their frustrations, too.
When posting a top level comment here, please include an intersection or area to make it more searchable.
Thanks to everyone for your participation and looking forward to hearing what makes Crown Heights great!

Curly hair barber
Hey neighbors,
I'm looking for recommendations for barbers who specialize in curly hair in the neighborhood. I've tried a few options and haven't found something consistently good yet! I also have sensitive skin, which makes it a pain having breakouts every time I get a close shave for a fade or a beard trim.
Let me know if you know someone!

Lost rent money possibly on Franklin or Sterling
I know it’s a long shot but I figure I’d ask here. I placed my envelope containing my rent $$ in my pocket but had to rush to work this morning and it possibly dropped out when I had to jog to the train. If anyone found a envelope this morning with money please please lmk. I know the amount and what it said on the envelope.
Thanks

Mama cat and newborn kittens in need a foster home ASAP
::UPDATE: foster found! Thank you everyone. 💚Follow on IG @courtstreetcats for updates and adoption info when they’re ready!::
Hi all,
I’m a cat rescuer in Brooklyn, and I’m looking for a foster home for a mama cat and her 5 newborn kittens - Alice and her beans (Garbanzo, Fava, Lima, Chickpea, and Butterbean).
I trapped Alice (after a few of weeks of getting her on a feeding schedule) along with her 4 month old kittens Kevin and Bea (also looking for a foster home! See last photo). Kevin & Bea went to temporary foster, and Alice came home with me in the trap I caught her in. I planned to keep her overnight in my bathroom, and evaluate her further the next day because she had a pretty big belly and I thought she was pregnant. When I came to check in on Alice the next day, she was doing fine, and then I ran some errands and came back, and suddenly, there were two kittens with her! She was in labor. She gave birth to 5 healthy kittens in my bathtub! Since then, Alice has gotten braver in my bathroom, leaving the trap to lounge on the toilet or window sill. She allows me to pick up her babies, which gives me the opportunity to weigh them, take progress pictures, etc.
While it is an absolute joy to open my bathroom and find a gaggle of cats/kittens, they deserve a low traffic, calm space to be in, i.e. a spare room (an office, or bathroom with low to no foot traffic would be amazing!), and I'd really like to be able to shower without reconfiguring my bathroom each time.
Care for Alice and her beans is straight forward - Alice feeds, bathes, and takes care of the babies, you feed and take care of Alice! She eats about 4-5 cans (3 oz) per day, as she uses a lot of calories feeding all of her babies (just like a human mom!), will need to have her litterbox cleaned daily, and a bed with high sides to keep the babies from wandering away.
What I provide:
- All vetting (any vet visits, medications, etc.)
- A high sided bed to keep everyone together
- Towels/sheets/linens, if needed
- Support (questions answered, advice given in a timely manner)
What you provide:
- A quiet, safe place for Alice and the beans
- Food
- Litter (I can provide a litter box, if requested)
- Pictures and personality descriptions that I can use to help them get adopted. I can give tips for the pics, etc.
Timeline: the beans need to stay with mom until around 8 weeks, so through the first week in September. Then they can start to be fostered/adopted out, pending avail. Preference will be given to fosters that can commit until everyone is adopted/fostered out.
This is one of the worst kitten seasons on record, and I could really use someone’s help with fostering this family. Please share this with anyone you know that might be interested in fostering.
If you’re interested, please send me a DM or go ahead and fill out the application here. I look forward to hearing from you, and working together to save this little family.

Any fellow pet sitters want to make connections?
Hi all, I'm a local part-time petsitter (I do drop-ins and walks) and I'm looking to make a few connections with other petsitters in the area. Some of my clients have asked me for connections for when I'm not available, so I'd love to have some faces, names, and numbers of people I feel confident giving in referral. We can also help each other out with our own pets if any. If anyone is interested in grabbing a quick coffee or even small group meet-up to introduce ourselves, post here or DM!

Crown Heights Pub Trivia
I’m looking for a new spot to do pub trivia with friends! We used to be regulars at Franklin Park’s Wednesday night trivia, but they recently introduced a two-drink minimum for everyone, so we’re looking to switch things up.
Looking for new locations in the Crown Heights Prospect Heights area. Thanks

Looking for recommendations for reliable, fair movers
Moving within crown heights (literally down the same block, about a 10-12 minute walk) but have some heavy items that will need transportation that I'd like to have arrive in one piece. Lots of belongings that I'll have to box up.
Has anyone had any POSITIVE experiences with a moving company they can recommend?

Is this on the business owners to clean up?
I doubt a crew from the city cleans this up right? (Carnage from the wreckage at Franklin and st marks)
Knowing these two businesses I don’t have confidence it will get cleaned up by them (no shade at them, just my experience with this corner). Is this just on us to clean up now if we want medical supplies and glass off the sidewalk?
