I'm looking to buy my first crossbow for whitetail hunting and would appreciate advice from people with more experience.
I've been researching several models from TenPoint and Wicked Ridge, but I'm open to other brands if they offer better value, reliability, or overall performance.
I'd ideally like to stay under $700, but I could stretch the budget to around $1,000 if the increase in quality is genuinely worth it.
What models would you recommend, and are there any you would avoid? I'd also appreciate recommendations for arrows or bolts, broadheads, and field points. Are there particular weights, brands, or setups that work especially well for whitetail hunting? Any advice for a first time crossbow owner/hunter would be great!

So I finally attached mine. I hadn't had a long enough range place to shoot with a scope until recently, so the point had seemed moot, and it had been long enough since I got it that I lost a couple small parts I needed to attach it - I know I have them *somewhere*, but I can't think where for the life of me. 😅
I had to take it to Home Depot to get appropriately sized nuts, since the only archery place around me said they couldn't help, but I got it attached well enough to hold a target through repeated use so I guess it works. I zeroed it in at 40 yds, then practiced for a little while at 70 yds and was consistently hitting what I aimed at. Even at that range, I was having to use both hands and a foot to get them out.
I'm really happy with this range day. ☺️

Hi I‘m making my own bolts. I normally use Bohning X Shield. Now I saw on Aliexpress there are lots of Vanes looking exactly the same but a lot cheaper.
Does anyone have experience with their quality? Or is this all the same factory in china?

I get asked all the time.. what do I use y
To cover my scope.. it's simple, cheap and fits into my pocket after I sit down to enjoy my hunt. Wide flexible hair tie. I use these on some of my gun scopes as well. Keeps the dirt out and optics dry.

Hello! I just bought an excalibur mag air, and I am planning on taking the stock off and building a new wooden one for it. I have a nice piece of maple im planning on using. Has anyone done a custom stock for their crossbow? Any advice?

I've never tried this yet but I would think there's some type of problematic recoil from the bow affecting your aim similar to spring air rifles. What is your experience?

It looks like some sort of crossbow, which is why I'm posting it here, I don't know anything about these things so I looked around the internet for a bit, but I couldn't find an old crossbow with a crank like that, I just want to know what exactly this thing is.

If you havnt serviced your crossbow yet now is the time! You should replace your string every 2 years and have it serviced. The amount of stretch is amazing and diminished performance! This is going to be a great year I was asked why it matters to do it now... my crossbow service center late Aug thru Sept is swamped and you might not get your bow back by opener!! Be proactive!

Evening all,
Picked up this 150lb draw bow for dirt cheap at auction with the quiver (?) and two bolts. Arms and strings seem to be in good order and it came with a rope cocking device. The sight's batter cover is broken but I'll be replacing that when reasonable.
One day would love to hunt with it but any sage advice y'all might be able to give me would be infinitely appreciated.

I recently bought an Excalibur REVX and I’m looking for a good tripod that is compatible with it, considering that the Excalibur Cross-Stix is as rare as gold in my country... !

The only thing I inherited from her. I used to play with it in her living room as a kid (it had no string at the time). She got it restrung a couple of years before she passed away for me to have it. I didn't know I was going back home with it and had to take the train back home going through Paris. I took off my jacket and put the limbs in the sleeves and carried it nonchalently, even walking right by the cops at the station.
I made new bolts with old drumsticks in my wood shop and shot it a couple of times, it's a lot of fun. Thanks grandma ❤️
Tha bolts are ash or oak with a horn tip and a lead ring. Only two points of contact on the ring and the bone at the end. Four feathers on the shaft, there is none on the bottom.

Hey friends, I’ve got a situation where I think a cool crossbow would fit the bill.
I’ve got three large Japanese maples on my property and some have dead branches way up. At lower heights I use a golf ball with nylon line and a large diy slingshot on a handle.
I’d like to attach the line to the back of a bolt and fire it up there. Range needs to be more than 100feet near vertical, any more than that is fine and dandy, as long as the line doesn’t break.
I saw some rinkydink fishing combos at Bass pro shops but I don’t think this will cut the mustard. Same theory tho, I’d need a reel to attach so like a pic rail for goodies.
What do y’all think? Got any recommendations? Budget is ballpark $500 -700 and location is California, USA.
This caught my eye… https://barnettcrossbows.com/collections/crossbows/products/xp405

I’m not familiar with crossbows, all I know is that this is an Excalibur, what would something like this be valued at?
