Crestie Doesn't Hide?

My girl, Toasty Rangoon, has a fully planted bioactive tank with lots of hides and foliage, yet she decides that sleeping front and center on the glass is the best place to be. Previously, she slept near the very top of her tank in an extra feeding ledge (no food in the cup, but the cup was in the holder), but she's since outgrown that spot and I provided her with a larger hide in the same area. Anyone else's geck like this? Like, I thought you were supposed to be a secretive, hard to find reptile, lol. Bonus points for the "um, acktually ☝️🤓" foot pose in the pic.

Are all cresties just lil nasty boys? 🥲

I went to feed mine today and before I could set the food down he splooged and then took the fattest dump. Like, as long as a pothos leaf.

Is he just a particularly nasty boy or are they all like this? 🥲

I still love him, but damn, he ain't right 😭

Aversion to CGD???

Post image
8 Upvotes

For context my girl is sick and has been for a few months; not eating, losing weight, eating substrate, I am still working with my vet running thru all the diagnostic tests. She will still show interest and eat a superworm, so I usually try to sprinkle some CGD dust on the worm after she grabs it to round out her nutrition a little. But today she fully SPAT OUT the worm after I sprinkled CGD on it and refused to bite at another bug. Even when I try to put a little drop of glop on her lips to get her to lick up some CGD, her reaction has very clearly gone from “lick. Oh wait that’s kinda yummy👀👀” to flat out revulsion. I know plenty of maladies can cause lack of appetite, but has anyone ever heard of a gecko still interested in eating bugs, but not the prepared diet??? I have tried Pangea, Repashy, and even ZooMed just in case she was being picky about the brand or flavor but she won’t willingly eat any of it. Does anyone have any clue at all??? 😭

Papaya trying to learn music.

My little guy has been very curious about my electric piano lately. He has chilled out on the music stand a couple times now, staying still long enough for me to play him a song. The piano is right next to his enclosure, maybe he's been listening to me play!

Disclaimer: I noticed a different, computer-savvy crestie posted here recently who is also named Papaya! This is not the same gecko, but clearly, geckos named Papaya must be highly intelligent.

Gecko behavior question

So this is Maple I've had her for 6 years now. (She's 7-8) She's a rescue, the first owner was not able to properly take care of her. She was so tiny when I got her. We thought she was just a small girl, but with the setup she had. It was not possible to get high enough humidity, so after I fixed the setup. She grew so fast!!

But because she started life with a bad setup, she never really learned how to remove her shed. So me and my husband had to help her a lot in the beginning, a humid box and q tip with water. But because of us helping her, she hates whenever I come into the room. She's scared I will pick her up. I've been trying to pick her up at random times, just to show nothing will happen. (And so she can be handle incase of vet visit). She lost her tail last year, and I feel she's even more skittish after it. She panics much more when I'm holding her. Before she could handle some handling, now she freaks out. My question is would a new home help?? Like with people who have not done her "wrong" in her eyes. I don't want to re-home her, but if it could help her I would. (I'm writing this right before sleep, so I will probably answer tomorrow 😅 thx to who ever cared to read it all ❤️)

Jumpy gecko

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a jumpy/ boarder line spastic gecko? His tank is blacked out on every side except the front and is super cluttered inside. He’s not able to see any of my other reptiles and I have had him for 5 years and he has always been this way. The second I open his tank he starts pin balling off the walls. I’m not sure what else I can do. Pic of him plotting his escape for tax.

Tips on teaching baby crested gecko on how to lick food?

i got a baby crested gecko she’s around a year now so she’s technically a teenager ? but she’s been biting her food instead of licking and because of that she doesn’t lick from her bowl. i have to use a silicone tiny tiny spoon to feed her (which she bites) any tips on getting her to lick?

i just bought this tank and wanted to set it up asap because my crestie is getting too big for his current 12x12x18 tank. it hangs off on the front and back by at least 2 inches. i’ve shaken the table and the tank and it seems to be pretty sturdy. i just can’t afford a new stand at the moment. the one i have currently is meant for 10 gallon fish tanks though, so i’m not worried about it collapsing.

Where to buy Vital Meal with lower shipping cost?

I've been interested in giving my gecko Vital Meal since Pangea's pricing went up but I can't find it for sale with shipping under 7-8 dollars. Does anyone know of any place to buy it with a lower cost shipping?

Rehomed Crested Gecko

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi Everyone! I am so happy to be a new crested gecko parent. He was rehomed to me at 2 years old. My niece was no longer interested. It was an 800 mile one way road trip back to my house. He did great!
I set up his terrarium today. How does it look? Please give me any advice and criticism that you have, as I am new to crested geckos. I know they are arboreal, so I got several fake vines and plants. Did I go overboard? I also planted one of my Pothos houseplants in the substrate.
I used dechlorinated water to loosen up the coconut husk substrate. I put Springtail culture in the substrate, as well as 25 small dubias and 15 orange isopods. I figured those three will keep the substrate healthy.
I fed him 30 small crickets today. I put them right in the terrarium for him to eat at his leisure. Do you all typically just drop the food in or?
For light, I have a UVA, UVB, LED light on a timer and then a ceramic bulb for heat that I was planning on turning on only at night since it’s been in the 80s here. Once fall hits, I will probably leave the ceramic bulb on all the time. Or what do you recommend?
Thanks everyone! I’m super excited to be part of the group.
