The AM6B Plus, my experience, and what's next?

As the title alludes, I no longer have my AM6B+ as I just returned it under warranty. I have a Jellyfin server and was looking for the best way to stream my content onto my LG C3 OLED. It started off alright, running CE 21.3 and Jellyfin for Kodi, but there were the occasional hiccups in playback with certain DV content. I ended up migrating to the AVDV builds, then to PI3, which fixed playback but seemingly created non-stop flickering when moving between movie titles and corruption of images. I tried everything. Clean builds, new microSD card, swap to USB, you name it, I couldn't shake it. Eventually I tried just getting back into Android TV and that wouldn't work at all, so I got an OTG cable and tried every single build available and while the flashes succeeded, none would boot. Ironically I was still able to get into recovery mode and reinstall whatever flavor of CE I wanted onto microSD.

That's a lot to say that I got fed up and returned it. Now the question is, what's next? Everything points to the AM6B+ STILL being the best device even though the CE build it works on is deprecated. Did I just have terrible luck and get a faulty device and I should try again with another unit, do I pivot to the Homatics or the Dune HD, or just wait? I picked the AM6B+ for DV FEL 7 playback and seamless audio pass-through to my receiver for DTS/Dolby advanced and lossless codecs. Seems like there is still nothing out there that beats the AM6B+.

Playback Failed Error everytime I Stop video

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am able to successfully play videos on my am9 pro. During playback, when I hit the stop button, it return to the homepage but it returns with this error. I tried this on fresh install (on default estuary skin and only using POV to select content). I also mimicked this setup on PC (Kodi 22) and returned the same playback error.

EDIT: seems it is not isolated to POV but also redlight player returns this error

Log (it's a long log file, I could not find which is related to the playback error): https://paste.coreelec.org/LikewiseMedical

Device tested: AM9 Pro (and Kodi 22 "Piers" on PC)
Software: Core Elec 22 Beta

[Tool] Python Script to Test Audio-Video Sync (Frame Rate + Codec)

Hello everyone,

I am writing this post to share a tool I developed to help diagnose audio-video sync issues, which can vary depending on both the frame rate and the audio codec.

Why I developed this script:
Most YouTube test videos for audio-video sync are limited to stereo PCM audio and a fixed frame rate, which doesn’t account for the variability introduced by different codecs (e.g., Dolby Digital, TrueHD) or frame rates (23.976, 25, 30, etc.). To address this, I created a Python script that generates custom test videos with synchronized light flashes and beeps, allowing precise measurement of sync offsets across different configurations.

🔗 GitHub - lipsync/Script.py

For testing, I also use this helpful app:
📱 AV Sync (Android)

Why this matters:
Sync offsets aren’t always constant. They can change based on the file’s frame rate (e.g., 23.976, 24, 25, 30, 50, 60 fps) and the audio codec (e.g., DD, DD+, TrueHD, PCM). My script helps identify these discrepancies so they can be compensated for in your setup (e.g., via receiver delay settings).

Thanks for your reading.

Will CoreELEC let me view DV content natively in projectors/TV without native DV support?

Was redirected from a fellow enthusiast here, they said,

People use CoreELEC to get Dolby Vision on Samsung TV's by using a Player LED option instead of Display LED.
I've never tried it but from what I understand, this should also work on a projector that doesn't support Dolby Vision.
Of course this is only going to work for your personally hosted media. If you use other streaming apps on the android side, you will only get HDR.

To what extent is this true?

Can someone with an Ugoos AM6B+ running CoreELEC & access to Jennifer Gala's Patreon try playing a Dolby Vision 60 fps file for me? It crashes CoreELEC on my AM9 Pro

If you have an Ugoos AMB6B+ running CoreELEC and access to Jennifer Gala's Patreon, could you try playing this file? It crashes CoreELEC on my AM9 Pro, but plays just fine on Kodi on Android TV on my RockTek G2. TIA!

AM6B+, Should I update to CoreELEC p3i T4b?

I got my AM6B+ about 15 months ago and everything has been great. I initially put on CPM A13 and have not upgraded anything since. My TV is an LG G4 2024.

I use the Composite video addon and connect it to my plex server to stream content. I also really like the video overlay that shows the process info, I don't know if this is specific to Composite, CPM or CoreELEC, etc.

Should I switch to CoreELEC p3i T4b? I'm now seeing that is the recommended route. If I did switch I would really want to still be able to see that process info.

If switching would be beneficial, I would appreciate any quick highlights as to why I should switch and any links to the resources needed / installation guides.

Also any suggestions for which skin or video addon to use would be helpful to.

Thank you

HDR bug

Anyone got any ideas here as I'm stumped.

My Dolby vision fel etc work fine! Just HDR content. The first time I play a HDR file on my am6b+ on corelec for that session it doesn't successfully decode and I get a colourful rainbow. However I simply exit and replay that file and it loads HDR just fine. I've had this issue for ages but not cared much as it's as simple as just stopping and starting again. But if it's an easy fix would be nice to sort

New rewind timeframe

CoreElec does not natively allow you to skip playback by less than 10 seconds at minimum. Is there a way to add in a 5-second interval? Changing the code of a skin? Any add-ons that offer this?

I rewind playback during a show often to have another listen with subtitles on when I mishear. But 10 seconds is too much time to sit through repeatedly. Would really improve comfortable watchability to have a shorter 5s interval.

Updating AM6B+ using USB (.tar) not working?

Is there any reason why mine is not triggering an update on reboots?

If it matters, I’m on pannal T4, trying to update to t4b. Since that initial setup a while ago my Am6B+ is deliberately no longer on the network so I thought I would try using a USB and the internal file manager to update. I’ve copied and pasted the .tar file over to the .update folder. Reboots do nothing.

Its not a black screen issue, it’s that it just boots up like normal and doesn’t do anything, the update doesn’t even start? I’ve also tried unplugging for 30 seconds.

Would greatly appreciate any help, thank you all

Is anyone successfully using OpenVPN to stream remuxes?

I'm seeing arguments that the overhead of OpenVPN may be too high for streaming over OpenVPN. I already have the OpenVPN server set up on my home nework and am looking for an easy "just works" solution for the remote device.

Was wondering if others had got this working e2e. I'd rather not have to reconfigure for Wireguard if possible.

AM9 Pro / CE 22 NO / Severe Audio Delay

Hi everyone, I’ve been looking through the CE forums and I see brief mentions of this but is anyone else noticing a pretty noticeable audio delay on the AM9 pro? It seems really noticeable on 1080 SDR H264 content, definitely a bit less noticeable on 4K DV content. I’m using a LG C3 on the newest nightly build. I’ve tried a clean install as well. Our Am6B+ in P3i in another room with the same TV doesn’t seem to have this issue

AMB6B+ Fresh Install

Starting my 4K/BD ripping journey with this as my media player and just curious what the order is to have p3i T4b installed.

Do I go official CoreElec>T4>T4a>T4b or T4>T4a>T4b, straight to T4b, etc?

UR02 remote odd behaviour, please help

I set up my AMB6+ with coreelec about 7 months ago. For a few months, everything worked fine, I taught some IR commands to the remote on the gray buttons, the bluetooth worked fine, it all worked. But recently the remote started flashing red, which stopped, however now every time I press an IR button, the remote gets stuck with a green light and doesn't respond for a few seconds to anything I press. I replaced the batteries, which seemed to fix it for a few days, but now it's happening again. I'm going crazy here because it's only the IR buttons which do this, the bluetooth buttons flash blue and always work just fine when I press them (unless the remote is stuck on green). I just want the remote to work again like it used to.

CE custom build suggestion

I own an LG QNED85A TV which on paper does not support DV and the EDID also says the same. But, when I play any DV content directly from Kodi WebOS I get DV playback. However, with CE or Kodi on my Mi Box S 3rd gen, EDID makes sure I only get HDR10 video. So, I am looking for a build that just ignores EDID and send the video signal directly to my TV.
PS: One more thing is I use a soundbar which has DTS-HD MA support which cannot be used if I use Kodi on WebOS directly, so I have the box connected directly to my soundbar.

HDR 64 reference black level shift,HDR to DV 68,VS10 HDR sets it to 80

So basically in my case Ugoos AM9 Pro and Philips oled908,playing HDR video as it is,reference black stays where it needs to be at 64,converting HDR to DV cuts everything below 68 and worst result is with using VS10 HDR it cuts everything below 80,hope someday we could adjust it and set manually reference black level.

Longshot, but has any build fixed the HDMI unmute issue when switching display to HDR10 or HDR10+? Does not occur with Dolby Vision content.

This is a fairly long standing bug in CoreElec in general. Probably because it doesn't affect that many people.

As some of you know, even when another output is selected, CoreElec still sends audio through HDMI as well.

I have a startup script configured to run "amixer sset 'Audio hdmi-out mute' on" to mute the HDMI audio. I do this because I route all audio PCM through a muti-channel USB DAC because my audio setup doesn't decode any DTS or most Dolby audio formats and my TV butchers the audio if it does the conversion to PCM and then passes it over arc.

However, I like being able to control my amp volume via HDMI-CEC which still works even if my TV isn't sending audio to the receiver/amp. And on occasion, if content isn't available, I will use a streaming app on the TV so I do occasionally need ARC to work.

The issue arises if I play back an HDR10 or 10+ file. In most every build of coreELEC I've tried. Including the latest p3i and avdvplus builds there is a bug where HDMI audio is unmuted when the display is switched to HDR10 or 10+. This causes my TV to send audio via ARC to my receiver/amp which causes the receiver to switch off of the analog multichannel input I'm using to the ARC input. So, I have to switch it back to the analog input which lasts until I pause and resume in which case the whole cascade happens again.

Currently, the workaround is to use VS10 to change HDR10/10+ content to Dolby Vision. I'm guessing since Dolby Vision is sent/contained in a 444 RGB SDR signal it doesn't trigger the bug that unmutes HDMI audio (I'm guessing the hdmi/display driver might be restarted in case of HDR playback and the mute state isn't remembered when it reinitializes). I have tried running a task to re-mute HDMI audio after playback starts, but just the short instance of the TV detecting the audio signal before it is muted again is enough to cause my input to switch.

Not a big deal, but my TV's native dynamic tone mapping for HDR10 content, and native rendering of 10+ content is notably better than the VS10 conversion to Dolby Vision. So, if anyone knows of a way to fix this I would like to be able to send untouched HDR10/10+ to my TV.
