Help, I am new to cEDH! Surgical cEDH deck

Hello! A buddy of mine is getting into cEDH and I tried it a while back. It was fine but was never really my thing. Anyway he’s getting into it so I wanted to make one with a theme I thought was semi-unique, though I don’t have the know-how to build an effective one from scratch

Since so many cEDH decks rely on very specific combo pieces to win/close out a game, I was thinking of building a deck with as many effects as possible that do things like Praetor’s Grasp (there are well over 10 effects that do this, but not all super efficient). I want to search opponent’s decks for their 1-2 key cards they need to win and functionally make the deck fall apart

Anyway, I would love some help/advice on which commander to pick for this and on how to build the deck

EDIT: I don’t need this to necessarily hang with the top tier decks, I know this would be very off-meta. But just something that I can sit at a cEDH table with and meaningfully interact while having a non-zero chance at winning

My motivation is having some kind of anti-cEDH themed deck. One of my favorite cards is Psychic Surgery, for example

Help, I am new to cEDH! Looking to get into cEDH specifically using Golgari commanders, who should I use?

I've been playing magic for around about 5 months and stumbled across a tournament which has made me realise commander can scratch that competitive itch, this isn't my first card game but I've not played commander at high brackets B4.

I LOVE Golgari, the self sac, the LTB effects, The consistency.

So who could you guys advise me to play?

And are there any discords available for any deck ideas?

Community Content I added puzzles to eldrazi.gg and the community has been adding some of the most unhinged submissions. Come find the lines!

Hello! I've posted a couple times before in the sub and gotten great feedback for my site, eldrazi.gg (fka eldrazi.dev). I added the ability for people to craft puzzles and we've quietly amassed 140+ community-made puzzles! No account is needed to start solving, but having one allows you to leave comments and mark puzzles as solved.

Here's a sample one to try, called dommy mommy by RogSi main Dexter. It's your end step, you're at 1 life, and you need to find a deterministic win through your own Necrodominance.

If you're interested in making puzzles, here's a video guide on how to build a puzzle. The best ones tend to come from real games where somebody found a mana/card-perfect line or a super complicated line through stax pieces.

Help, I am new to cEDH! Ral or Malcolm+Partner for my first CEDH deck?

I’ve been playing commander since 2018, and I’ve been watching CEDH content since 2021. I know the gist of the most popular combos and archetypes, so now I actually want to play.

I have played a lot of bracket 4 storm and spellslinger, so I feel comfortable in izzet or izzet+, and I don’t want to go more than 3 colors to start.

I’ve narrowed it down to Ral, Malcolm/Kediss, Malcolm/Akiri, or Malcolm/Vial.

Given that I’ll be a touch overwhelmed for my first couple of games, what deck would you suggest?

Help, I am new to cEDH! Is Zirda the Dawnmaker strong enough?

I've recently gotten into CEDH because of some friends at my LGS and I'm trying to find a strong CEDH commander that isnt used by my table. I made a Magda deck and loved it but I'm looking for another option. I found Zirda and thought the art looked fantastic and his abilities look pretty broken, but im just not sure if it's strong enough for the decks my friends have been playing. Including:

- Rakdos the Muscle

- Ral, Monsoon Mage,

-Lumra, Bellow of the Woods

- Kinnan Bonder Prodigy

-Tayam, Luminous Enigma

To be clear I'm not trying to see if Zirda is stronger than these options, just whether it can be competitive enough to build with these competitors and not sit there twiddling my thumbs. If anyone has any recommendation for Commanders other than Zirda or what my Friends are playing let me know. I tend to stay away Partners honestly so no Rag+Thrasios.

General Discussion / Question What decks/commanders will fall out of favour/the meta soon?

Personally, even though vivi is still one of the most popular commanders, the fact he (in my eyes anyway) is KOS means I don’t particularly want to build him or play him, is there any other commanders you can think of, that may slowly be less played as time goes on?

Help, I am new to cEDH! What LotR commanders are Cedh viable?

My pod is wanting to get into cedh and we are all building one deck to start. Wanted to get opinions on which commanders are viable for true cedh, and which are fringe but kinda work?

Appreciate any insight.

Help, I am new to cEDH! Commander dilemma

Hello all,

I am still a relatively newer player to CeDH and i decided to start with rog/ thras. After many of games i have decided its just not the deck for me. I did however really enjoy the thrasios aspect of the deck, so Im looking for any advice on the deck directions ive been looking into.

1- part of me really wants to build yoshi thras as i have acquired some white staples i want to show off, the addition to white and silence effects have been intriguing to me.

2- looking into yoshi, ive also had the question of, if im running white why not run tymna thras?

3- my other thought has been to ditch the idea of playing white and commit to simic with kinnan.

I want to hopefully settle for a deck that can compete value wise in the midrange, but can take off early given the window, and is a deck i can learn and grow with, and will stay “viable” for some time.

Any help is great help, thanks in advance.

Help, I am new to cEDH! New to cEDH going toy first tournament

Hello everyone! As the title says I'm new and getting ready to go to my first tournament. I've been playing this format on and off for about two months. I decided on Zhulodok because I love colorless and also I feel like it's a good deck to learn about different threats and what different decks do at a table without having to be the person to counter things and accidentally countering wrong pieces and stuff.

My main question is really about different resources to kinda learn about things quickly. My tournament is on the 8th and if anyone else has any experience with Zhulodok I'd love tips. Especially I'm trying to work on learning what hands to keep and stuff. I've found a primer to read but it also wasn't as in-depth as I would've liked as I have questions about some of the cards and what best scenario to play them such as chalice of the void, tangle wire, disrupter flute, ect.

Edit to add current deck list on top and the one I'm probably switching to at the bottom. They are basically the same with a difference of about ten cards.

Community Content [Video] Turbo Aang deck showcase

Hey all.

I wanted to record a deck showcase of my Turbo Aang project in video form while reminiscing about my cards. It's been a wild 7 months or so of brewing and writing and honestly I wouldn't have ever imagined the project to gain such a following. So thank you all for that.

Hope you enjoy the video! :)

General Discussion / Question Nick Fury meta place

Just want to get people's opinion on Nick Fury in cEDH. I was looking at data from the Summer Classic 3 and saw that there were 0 Bluefarms in top 16 while there was 3 Nick Furys. Including some of the top players that have been known to be on Bluefarm.

Do you think that Nick Fury is here to stay as a top tier meta contender, potentially even pushing bluefarm out? Or do you think that Nick Fury is just the flavor of the month that people will eventually swap back to the old mains from?

General Discussion / Question Would nadu still be too strong for Cedh?

I wasn’t playing magic at the time of his heyday, but i know he was a menace in other formats. With how the game has changed, would nadu still be a problem in cedh?

General Discussion / Question Have Y'all ever like.. including Demonic Consultation for tutoring purposes?

Card is [[Demonic Consultation]]

Demonic Consultation {B}

Instant

Choose a card name. Exile the top six cards of your library, then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a card with the chosen name. Put that card into your hand and exile all other cards revealed this way.

I know for tutoring purposes, similar cards like [[Tainted Pact]] is superior since you can stop at anytime. But however, have any of y'all ever running this card just for tutoring? Or is it too much of a gamble if your named card is exiled within the top six?

Like if you're playing sans blue so no Thoracle combo, but need some more tutor... Would you ever consider Demonic Consultation?

Deck Fine Tuning Theory Crafting Thranduil

Since Thranduil got spoiled I have been very interested in figuring out the best way to play this deck. I think it has some legs and I have been craving a creature combo deck of this type for a long time. Here is my moxfield list with a little primer of some lines that I have found/played with through goldfishing and thinking about the deck. Excited to connect with others that are interested in brewing the deck!

Spoilers! Card Discussion The Master of Lake-Town

1BB

Legendary Creature- Human Advisor

Deathtouch

Whenever a player looses life, that player mills that many cards

Whenever ~ dies, draw a card for each graveyard with seven or more cards in it.

3/2

Can see this seeing some play with Necro or Ad Naus. And basically doubling the benefit of those cards, since this also effects the owner of The Master of Lake-Town. Would also help your opponents though as well.

Community Content Underplayed Secret Lair Card By the Numbers - Permission Denied

Seen in only 1.2% of tournament lists in the past 6 months - Permission Denied is a control farm/ Rog//Ishai tech piece that strangely doesn't see as much play across the greater field of Azorius+ lists.

While we've seen tournament winners like Matt Hayes take down big events with this piece - the overall play rate is generally low.

This week we take a deep dive into this card and what players may be overlooking when it comes to play patterns and political strategies.

Is Permission Denied a good card?

Have you played Permission Denied in your cEDH list? If so, what list?

Help, I am new to cEDH! Discord for high-quality cEDH games?

Is anyone aware of a discord server for high quality cEDH play? I am looking to prepare for a tournament and wanted to jam games where people will not just quit in the middle of a match or spite play. Unfortunately playing with random players in Spelltable/Convoke has run its toll on me.

Deck Fine Tuning List help for no ban list TnT

Hi everyone,

I mainly play no ban list cEDH so I wasn't sure where to put this because it isn't traditional cEDH but I have a few fine tuning questions I would love to get your opinion on. First, my 'pod' consists of 3 people instead of 4 (trying to find a fourth but its hard for various reasons) and the other two players often play the following (all decks built by me so I know them inside out).

My first opponent plays Breya artifacts where the main combos are 1) [[Time Vault]] + [[Voltaic Key]] infinite turns, 2) [[Sensei's Divining Top]] + [[Mystic Forge]] and a cost reducer to draw the entire deck, 3) infinite mana with [[Power Artifact]] and [[Grim Monolith]], 4) Traditional [[Underworld Breach]] + [[Brain Freeze]] but with [[Black Lotus]] instead of LED and it also has [[Tinker]] into [[Bolas Citadel]]. The second opponent plays [[Najeela, the Blade-Blossom]] with the usual cards that combo with her for infinite combats as well as Thoracle + Consult and Breach + Brain Freeze + Black Lotus. They also run a lot of [[Grand Abolisher]] type effects including [[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]], [[Hexing Squelcher]], [[Ranger-Captain of Eos]] etc.

Now, my deck is TnT and here is my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/0Utr9aERXU2kt72a-ZCqgQ . My main combos are Thoracle Consult, [[Displacer Kitten]] + [[Teferi, Time Raveler]] and one of the mana positive or neutral rocks, [[Hullbreaker Horror]] and 2 mana rocks as well as some other Displacer Kitten Lines: since I use a small wishboard for [[Karn, the Great Creator]] he also goes infinite with Kitten given the wishboard contains LED and Tormod's Crypt. He can also finish the game off by fetching [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] either after the kitten combo or just after generating infinite mana and drawing my deck with Thrasios. Other Kitten lines include [[Eternal Witness]], [[Time Walk]] and one other spell, also EWitt, Black Lotus and any other spell with MV 2 or less that I can cast off the lotus as well as Kitten, EWitt, [[Lotus Petal]] and [[Brainstorm]], [[Ponder]] or [[Ancestral Recall]] to draw my library. I also run [[Grim Monolith]] // [[Basalt Monolith]] and [[Power Artifact]].

Now, I know that most TnT lists in regular cEDH use Devoted Druid + Swift Reconfiguration as their infinite mana source and I was hesitant to include Grim Monolith, Basalt Monolith and Power Artifact since Power Artifact is dead outside the combo and Basalt Monolith isn't great. On the other hand, both monoliths work with Kitten + Teferi or with Hullbreaker Horror so I thought that was a point in their favor. I was wondering what everyone thinks about the Grim + Basalt + Power Artifact combo lines. Should they stay? Should they go? If they should go, any thoughts on what to replace them with?

I am also a little unsure as to whether I should keep Brainstorm, Ponder and Balance. I really like the 1 mana blue draw spells as they smooth things out and help with EWitt + Kitten but they aren't great. I haven't had a chance to test Balance yet, but I am not sure if its great or terrible. Also, I know I run a lot of removal, especially mass-removal compared to many lists but the Najeela deck is often overrunning the board with creatures and these defenses help somewhat with that. Finally, I know most TnT lists are creature based but I personally love very creature light decks (especially since they make the mass removal often entirely one-sided) so I don't want to go in a mana-dork / creature heavy direction.

All that said, if anyone has comments / suggestions either on any things I've mentioned or any other aspects of the deck list, I would love to hear your opinions as to how I can reduce some of the 'bad cards' and make the deck the best it can be. Thank you!

TLDR: I would love suggestions / help with my no-ban list TnT deck with the link posted above. Thank you!

Community Content Apologies to the person Igave shit to about their Tazri/Zirda companion list. Sam Black posted a Zirda companion cedh brew later that same day

Sorry dude.

[[Super Skrull]] w/ Zirda Companion list. Hilariously called 5c no good cards. Plays a shit ton of mana dorks, and untap effects to generate a shit ton of mana. What seems to make this more appealing than Kenrith is that the activated abilities on the whole are a bit stronger on the whole (the card draw effect and burn). Although I maintain that Tazri, Stalwart Survior is likely not cEDH power level, it seems like Zirda companion/activated ability slop is not completely without legs.

General Discussion / Question Should I Raise My Expectations?

I went to the Summer Classic III this weekend.

First tournament ever and honestly just curbed expectations by just assuming I wouldn’t even win a game. I did pretty well though and got 12 points, and as I left Saturday evening people were telling me I should be proud and that I probably made day 2.

I didn’t make day 2 lol

I just wanted to know if people think this is a beginners luck situation and it makes sense that I didn’t make day 2, or if my results mean I shouldn’t doubt myself quite as much and maybe expect a little better from myself going forward.

Either way, I had a ton of fun and it really ignited my competitive spark for cEDH
