I recently transferred to a university I start classes this fall but I am debating if I should continue in community college taking lower division courses and then transferring again to a university again to take the upper division classes. I was able to switch my major to supply chain management as a transfer who was going in as a sociology major. I haven’t take any business courses prior to changing my major so I was just wondering if its smart to take lower classes in a cc first and how that would affect my status in the university if i decide to go back to cc this fall?

I am interested in taking a chemistry class for credit in New York City.

I have never taken a college course and I’m not sure where to start.

I am not looking to enroll in a degree program, just slowly start taking classes for credit. I am a New York resident.

Does anyone have experience doing this? Any advice and recommendations are welcome!

I start school on the 17th, and so far, I’ve still had no luck getting my transcripts.

I got it while I was incarcerated as a 17 year old in a different state. The states department of education takes me to the GED website to order my transcripts, and it’s not there. I’ve contacted the probation department and they said they would contact their education department to reach out to me.

So far nothing. Haven’t heard anything and nobody has reached out to me, even after calling several times. Nobody at the community college can give me answers besides “I don’t know” and it’s infuriating. I need those transcripts to receive financial aid, they won’t do assessments in place of it, and I just am unable to get my transcripts. Nobody is helping and the only answers I get are “contact the institution” but the institution is the courts, and they’re not helpful.

*edit* I was able to get ahold of the person in charge of education for the detention facilities, and she sent me the unofficial transcripts by email, and then mail me the transcripts. The PDF says it’s official and can be verified with an access code (tried it and didn’t work, URL isn’t even active anymore) so I’m not sure why the transcripts she’s sending by mail would be unofficial?

*edit* Made some more calls and found out the detention center I went to is closed. On the GED in the email it has that location and address on it, but they shut down and moved all services to the courts that handle things on the west side of the county. So now the institution that issued it is closed, which is most likely why it’s not showing up on GED.com.

*edit* verified my ID with financial aid. Tried asking and got the typical “I don’t know, but they would know” I asked if there was anything else that needs to be done, if they can check if it’ll affect my financial aid eligibility. They said “they’ll” reach out to me if there’s anything else they need. It’s extremely frustrating. Somehow, not a single worker at the college knows their own policy regarding if high school transcripts/GED are necessary to start AND get financial aid. The orientation online they had me complete had a section about sending over transcripts. I know a lot of colleges operate this way where you can “sign up” for classes, but you can’t get financial aid for it if you have no high school transcripts/GED.

I am starting college in the fall. I’m very excited, and nervous at the same time.
I know this may sounds unrealistic but I genuinely want to be a very good student in college. I want to have a 3.5 gpa so I could join the Honor Societies. I also want to build connections, secure scholarships, find opportunities to network, and take advantage of EVERY BENEFITS the college offers.
I’m enrolled in a community college. I’m not sure yet about my major but something in finance/management.
Please share anything you know that could help prevent burnout, failure, being the teacher’s pet.

Hey all, I'm a student at Santa Monica Community College, and every semester it feels like there's no good way to find people in my classes who actually want to study more than once or twice or who end up taking similar classes down the road like higher level classes.

Usually it ends up being one of these 3; already having friends in the class, joining a random discord that dies after two weeks, or studying alone.

I'm curious if this is just my experience at SMCC or if other colleges/community colleges are the same. How do y'all usually find people to study with? If you don't, what's the biggest reason?

I'm trying to understand whether this is an actual problem before spending more time building something to help

Im about to start cc next month majoring in business and I’m hoping to transfer to a good college after a year or two.

In terms of ECs, clubs, and more what can I do to make sure this happens? There’s limited amount of clubs in the cc I’m going to. I’m aiming towards schools with strong business programs.

Also, what can I do in terms of projects? I’m always hearing to “start projects that look good on ur resume” but as a business major I’m a little stumped on what to do. I have no background of coding or anything and I’m looking to specialize eventually in accounting or finance.

Some help would be greatly appreciated!

So I’m leaving for college next month and I’ve been looking for a job this entire summer. I even applied before school ended and I graduated but nothing is really working? My family isn’t rich and we don’t have much every day. I made it into this college and its mostly on scholarships.

I have to get stuff for my dorm but I don’t have anything? I know my family can’t help out and I’m sick of false promises.

How can I make money to get the stuff I need?

I’m in a really tight spot and need some straight answers on the absolute fastest way to handle this.

I am currently freshly out of an 11-year abusive relationship and am facing immediate homelessness. I am trying to enroll at a community college here in Colorado for the Fall 2026 semester to get some stability, but I’ve hit a massive wall with financial aid.

I do not have a high school diploma or a GED. I was originally told by the college's published policies that I could take the Accuplacer exam to qualify for financial aid under the federal "Ability to Benefit" pathway. However, the financial aid office is now telling me that they don't actually honor or process that pathway for my program, so my FAFSA is completely stuck in limbo.

Because of my situation, I don’t have the time or the money to sit through weeks/months of in-person adult education classes. I need to get this credential completely out of the way so I can unlock my financial aid and start classes this August.

I know Colorado allows the online at-home GED testing option, but would like to know every quick option. I need advice from anyone who has crammed for it and knocked it out in a matter of days or weeks:

• What are the absolute best, free, or incredibly cheap fast-track study resources (especially for math)?
• Are there any loopholes, emergency workforce grants, or specific waivers in Colorado that can cover the testing fees quickly?
• If you’ve done the at-home online proctored GED, how fast did the system let you schedule and finish all four subjects?

I am completely overwhelmed, exhausted, and running out of options, but I cannot let this bureaucracy derail my chance at getting back on my feet. Any advice, resources, or fast-track strategies would mean the world right now. Thank you.
