Mix & mingle happy hour on Thursday June 23 starting 5PM @ Reckless Shepherd: Come out to socialize & make friends! laid back vibe and just a good time to make friends or catch up with new ones.

FAQs:

  • I am coming by myself, is that okay? Absolutely! We will introduce ourselves to everyone that comes in and connect you with other people
  • Can I bring someone? Totally welcome. Please bring your friends, spouses, partners, or anyone else you know that is looking to make friends
  • I have never been to one, is everyone already cliqued off? Not at all! Our events have a lot of first timers every time and the repeat attendees are always looking to meet new people too
  • I don't drink, is that okay? Yes! You will not be alone in not drinking. There are others who come just for the food or the socialization
  • I do not live in Columbia, am I allowed to come? Yes! We have plenty of people that show up from the central Maryland area

If you have any feedback, concerns, thoughts, or suggestions please let me know! We have taken feedback from all the events to make this more accessible, more welcoming, and with more space so people can spread out. This is a community run event so we want to take community input.

Lastly - thank you to all who show up for the first time and for those who return! Its been amazing seeing the community growing from this and the friendships being made.

Today the car behind me was rear ended at this intersection. I don’t know why people don’t realize there is a yield sign here and traffic from the other side has the right away. In fact, there’s literally a line on the road where one should yield to those cars.

Car stolen right in front of our house.

Hi all,

Last night at around 3;55-4:09 am a group of 4 youths, scouted and then used a Flipper device to steal our 2025 Honda Civic Sport Si.

I clearly saw who it was in the car they came in and could tell they were wearing ski masks.

I turned all video footage of this incident to the Howard County police.

Just know if this was your kid, he will be caught if he lives in Columbia.

I know a lot of people in Columbia. If they don't find him, I'm sure I will either see my car with them in it, or hear a whisper of the wind.

Either way, they should watch out for the consequence, consequence, consequence.

Because consequences come from bad decisions, and almost never end well for the recipient.

Get control of your children, people.

They're OUR problem. Until they aren't.

Warn your kids if they're out doing shady shit when you're asleep,

That there are boogymen out here, and they are law abiding citizens who will defend their property if it comes down to it.

DO BETTER PARENTS. DON'T MAKE

SOCIETY PARENT YOUR KID.

Driving with hazard lights in the rain

Why do so many people here drive with their hazard lights on in the rain? I get that the car becomes more visible, but hazards should be used sparingly to indicate real danger. If someone is not confident enough to drive in hard rain, they should simply pull over until the rain lightens. It drives me nuts when people do this and switch lanes, etc. Turn signals become difficult to distinguish and sometimes not even visible when hazards are on. Am I alone on this?

Yes, Brewing Good is truly that bad!!

Inspired by the recent post on here pointing out BG’s multiple Instagram posts targeting a 1 star-reviewer and including their full name, for leaving a critical review (and still far from the worst I’ve seen, even during my time working there).

If you read nothing else past this point because you don’t care for the drama, just know that despite having a cash tip jar and a digital tip option, zero of those tips go to employees. I’ve been yelled at for clarifying to a customer that this is the case. They are intentionally deceptive about this to inquiring potential employees.

The owners, Karla and Justin, are just psychotic. Justin has a self-proclaimed “emotional regulation disorder” that he would bring up to excuse every time he lost his temper over something. He took off after another incident where someone left a bad review and called us “racist” for “ignoring her” (we were understaffed because Karla and Justin don’t hire enough people to give us leeway on busy weekends, and we directly addressed her and said we’d be with her in a moment; she was standing off to the side of the front counter for 90 seconds and we know this because Justin and Karla rewatched the footage a hundred times to literally count this period of time). Justin fully took it out on the employees working the front during this shift, they asked for clarification on what could have possibly been done differently, and he couldn’t even give an answer. We could have rolled out the red carpet for this lady and mixed her drink with a golden spoon and she still would have been set on her reaction.

Justin also made a point to clarify to us after this incident that “these are not our friends, these are customers; we only need to take their money, they can be mad at us as long as we have their money.” So that shows you where their priorities lie.

They started spending a ton of time hiding in the back room watching cameras (which we knew had microphones, so god forbid we talk about it). We didn’t see Justin for months after that, he only came in once when we hired a new girl and he refused to acknowledge or speak to anyone.

They are obsessed with their perception, hence the pride flags and hosting pride-themed events. Despite this, they do nothing for their queer employees, go out of their way to reference customers in ways that are hurtful and transphobic (like calling a female transgender customer “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and racist comments about DoorDashers who get lost looking for another cafe because the layout of Savage Mill is confusing). They are profiting off a demographic of people they are not apart of, and do not care about or do anything to help.

I tore my rotator cuff and had to work through it, lifting and carrying dishes and full trays of food onto high shelves, as well as moving and lifting furniture. Then I got harassed by their favorite employee for taking bathroom breaks to change my lidocaine patch on my shoulder. I developed a rash from the dishwashing chemicals on my hands for literal months because I asked for gloves to wash dishes with, and they told me they didn’t have more in the back so I’d have to use the same gloves as everyone else.

One employee was promised more hours and better pay, and when he kept following up about it, the owners threatened to harass his parents for “raising an ungrateful shit” and told him he needed to get his life together when he tried to put in his two weeks. When another employee clarified to Karla and Justin that morale was low because they could tell we felt like Justin in particular was targeting us regarding that one lady’s review, they fired them, in the midst of family health problems.

The coffee is good quality, that’s literally it. They know how to roast beans and they care more about that and their cats than their employees.

At the end of my last shift I told them I would stop by and visit (just trying to be polite) and Karla and her brother just laughed and said “that’s what they all say.” If all of your employees are leaving for the same reason and none of them want to be associated with you after leaving, maybe you need to reflect on yourself as a business owner.

At this time I’ve already texted Karla directly asking her to take down the post because it targets someone with their full name, and she has not responded or taken the post down (despite the fact that they’re closed today). She removed the specific photo showing the reviewer’s full name, and temporarily removed the comments option, but comments are now back up.

Like yeah the guy's definitely a dick, it just seems like the the owners are a little thin skinned. Also, suggesting that he's homophobic based on 0 evidence doesn't sit right with me.

Good recommendations for a local dermatologist?

Had skin cancer removed from a sensitive area in November and I'm due for a follow up. I can't use my old doctor because they're no longer here, and I didn't like them much anyways. Any good recommendations?

Has anyone tried the RBC yet?

Hi all! I'm a crafter and read about this new spot called the Resting Bitch Place off Triadelphia Rd. Apparently you can either bring a craft or buy craft supplies? It looks really cute! I'm always looking for more ways to build a community but my hobbies are fairly solo-ish, so I'm wondering if this is a place to actually meet people. Has anyone been yet?

Bringing a vape to merriwhether post pavilion?

I saw that no one's allowed to bring tobacco products, vapes and all that stuff in the venue. I also see that people bring in all kinds of things with no issue lol, I'm curious if I bring a vape in through security will the most that will happen is that they just confiscate it?

Obviously I'm not planning on smoking in the venue but for before/after the show

Thanks in advance 🙏

Does HCC have a place to post part-time babysitting opportunities that would be good for college students?

Where I lived previously the local community college had a board on campus where the public could post babysitting and other pt jobs. Does something like that exist, either physically on the campus or virtually? We live near the campus and are looking for someone to meet our 3 early elementary age kids at the bus stop in the afternoons at 4 and walk them home/watch them until 530. It seems like it would be a good fit for a HCC student but not sure how to advertise to them most effectively.

Mechanic for classic vehicles

Didn't want to make another mechanic post, but I've called a lot of the mechanics listed in other threads and struck out on every one. I have a 1993 Suzuki Jimny, imported from Japan. I need to replace the clutch on it, but I think doing it in my driveway would be very difficult.

Does anyone know of a mechanic who will do work on a car like this? I have the parts, just need them installed.

  • Ken's Auto said they won't work with customer-supplied parts
  • Foreign Auto Experts said he "won't work on those because he can't get parts" and then just said "I can't work on it" after I said I had parts
  • Das Auto said they don't work on foreign classics

The vehicle is a glorified riding lawnmower, so I'm not sure why it's so hard to find a garage that'll take it.

Maternal fetal medicine recs

Hi all! I am looking for recommendations for a Maternal Fetal Medicine practice that isn’t Johns Hopkins in Columbia, MD. My OBGYN is through Hopkins, but I went through Hopkins MFM for my first pregnancy and it was a horrible experience that I would rather not repeat. Does anyone have any recs for an alternative practice in the area? I obviously can ask my OBGYN practice, but wanted to put feelers out here.

I am a type 1 diabetic with a history of pre eclampsia with my first child. I will also be considered as advance maternal age by the time I (hopefully) get pregnant again and I am currently in the process of losing weight.

Thank you in advance!

🐝Columbia Bee Keeper🐝?

Post image
18 Upvotes

It seems as though I may have a swarm building a hive under my humming bird feeder! I have a large carpenter bee community as well as random other solitary bees on my patio who need to not be hurt by the removal of the honey bees- and the honey bees can’t be harmed, either, obviously!!

Does Columbia have a local bee keeper I can call for help?

Thanks so much in advance! 🐝

Recommendations for affordable graduation party spots? (Pavilions / outdoor spaces with indoor access)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking around for a spot to host an upcoming grad party/birthday celebration and could use some local advice.

Ideally, I'm trying to find a pavilion or some kind of outdoor space that gives you that nice outdoor feel, but also has indoor access (like an attached room, a clean permanent building, or a community center space nearby) just in case it rains or people want to escape the heat/humidity.

I’m looking for something pretty straightforward, affordable, and nothing too fancy or expensive. County parks, Columbia Association spots, or hidden gem community rooms that don’t cost a fortune would be awesome.

If you’ve hosted or been to an event somewhere like this around the area, where did you go and how was it? Appreciate any suggestions!
