I suspect a spanish cob, possibly an escudo, but the shield details seem very crude.. Any thoughts on attribution or authenticity? Diameter estimated around 27mm, no weight available

Ahoy friends. I just wanted to share my latest design. Clearly modeled after the classic cobs from the 1715 fleet wreck, just with a slight sneaky makers mark thrown in there, to make it my own design.

I strike them just like the originals, so they are all different. In solid silver and gold!

I am pretty proud of how they turn out.

I figured this group would appreciate them!

The French were pushed out of the Iberian Peninsula and although the Portuguese authorities and the Royal Family preferred to remain in Brazil for a while, they now had the time to deal with their colonies and their economy. There had been coins issued for Angola since the 1690s but the last were produced in the early 1790s so there was clear shortage. A new series was prepared consisting of four copper denominations - 1/4, 1/2, 1, and 2 macutas - which were struck in 1814 and 1815. One macuta was equal to 50 reis. The new coins were struck at the Rio de Janeiro mint and they were significantly underweight - this macuta weighs only 16 grams while previous and later issues weigh 36 to 38 grams. It seems that quite a few were immediately picked up by collectors as they are quite easy to find in decent grades.

Happy 250th America! Here is a coin turning 250 years old today too. A 1776 evasion half penny likely minted in the colonies.

She is beat up but she is mine. The British mint didn’t make any Pennies in 1776 but the American counterfeiters didn’t get that message!

She is beat up and one of the only clear things is the date, but the date is clear as crystal. The obverse is shown upright. You can just make out George’s head and wreath crown.

This 40 reis coin was struck in the Bahia mint in Brazil for circulation in the Portuguese colony of Sao Tome and Principe islands off the West coast of Africa. By some crazy mistake the whole mintage of that year including 20 and 80 reis coins was shipped off to Mozambique instead (think Tokyo-Rio instead of Tokyo-San Francisco) and once there they were introduced in circulation. All other dates are considered Sao Tome issues.

1787 Connecticut copper MB left, so many different varieties of these coins but can’t find too many other with the double star before the Conn. just looking to learn a little more about this! Thanks in advance

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to send somthing like this but I’m new to coin collecting.

As far as I know these are the keping coins made by the east India company across the years. I got these in a coin lot whit the other few coins from it being real. The issue for me is there is very little information on these coins online so it’s hard for me to find out what these are.

The first coin seems to be a 1 keping con from the early 1800s ( the year is barely visible in the Eastern Arabic script ). The width and thickness seems correct based on what I saw online but it uses coin alignment rather than medal allignment.

The second coin looks to be a 4 keping coin from 1804 with all the details looking correct and some of the details on the coat of arms can be seen with a magnifying glass but it is thinner than expected ( 1mm compared to 2) it also looks as if the copper has flacked off in some way and if it’s real it’s definitely been cleaned

The last coin is the strangest of the 3 it feels real it terms of weight and just the overall look of the wear but I can’t find a picture of any other coin with the same combination of details

I did check and none of the coins are magnetic but I really have no idea if they are real.

I graduated from high school this year about three days ago, and as a graduation gift to myself I splurged on two items, one is still in the mail but after a decade I finally have one if my grail coins, a 1640 over dated 1650 Dutch lion dollar used in the colonies, needless to say I’m very happy.

I recently acquired this token. The history behind it is pretty interesting. For starters it was back dated (minted 1810-1820 in Ireland) and made to look weathered to give the illusion of age to evade strict British currency laws.

What grade would you give it? I think it might be a little ungraded in the old yellow ANACS holder at F12 Details. Would it be worth cracking and having it regraded. If the answer is yes by who? Thanks for any input.

Now that I’m about to graduate highschool and have a job I’ve finally been letting myself spend more money on colonial coins and currency, I’m ready to drop a few hundred In a small set of 1768-1775 colonial currency bills and ide also very much like this Dutch leg dollar, but Ide first like to know (really more just to make sure) it looks authentic or not, I’m not as knowledgeable with colonial era coins (1620-1770) as I am with early American ones (1785-1805)

Found this on eBay, just thought it looked interesting, a counter mark on a 1793-1795 large cent. Is this a known counterstamp? I’ve never collected counter stamped coins and just wanna know more about this one if possible

I’m not a colonial coin expert. I found this in a dark tent tucked in a display case. No info on the flip and I asked the lady what she was asking. She said $20. I figured I couldn’t go wrong at that so I grabbed it.

Got it outside and started researching a bit. This one seems to be a great find. From my research it’s the “seated right” variety. If anyone who knows more can give me a solid estimate on value, I’d greatly appreciate it. I figured I’d throw it into my next PCGS submission.
