I'm (30f) graduating in a semester or two (depending on senior project completion), and I desperately need to get out of food service.
I've been working at 2 bakeries for the past 3 years because it pays bills. I have been unable to focus on internships or volunteer work to boost my relevant experience because my husband and I barely make enough to afford rent and food.
I'm majoring in Communication and Linguistics (Russian focused).
How do I start boosting my relevant work experience and get out of food service while still being able to afford bills?
How do I manage the need to work to survive with college and gaining relevant experience?
How do I escape food service?
Are paid internships even possible to get anymore?
Also, I know my degree isn't that valuable, but I can't afford to change degrees and schools now.
I attend a small Christian college that only offers 3 other degrees in either Ministry or Leadership studies.
I'm failure at life, so there's not much hope for my success now. Just trying to get any career because I'm sick of living paycheck to paycheck.

This coming Fall sounds like the hardest few months of my life: I'm taking 14 credit hours of classwork and working 40 hours a week. I can't quit my full-time job since I won't have any housing without it, and lowering my working hours isn't an option with my position. My family is only willing to pay for one more semester before I graduate. I'm seriously terrified of this semester coming up; to make things worse, I just got diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Although I'm taking medication, it's just another thing I'll have to deal with.
What can I do right now? I'm not sure what to ask, but I need advice.

I don't even mind paying for things that I know are part of college but why does it all happen at once? Tuition is due, rent is coming up, textbooks aren't cheap, parking passes go on sale and then you realize you still need random things for your room that nobody tells you about until the last minute.
I've spent the last month refreshing portals and checking email just to make sure I haven't missed another deadline. Any help on this?

this is kind of a long story but i would appreciate any support or advice you guys can offer
i had to travel very unexpectedly (for an exam resit) with pending coursework. the reason it was such a last minute travel was because i was bit by an animal and need time sensitive rabies shots; it wasn't particularly safe for me to travel internationally, so i requested a resit abroad
although my department approved it, the faculty denied the request and when i requested evidence from my doctor, they were on leave and did not get back in touch. i urgently sought a second opinion from a different doctor but even they delayed significantly, and it was no longer advisable to wait on admin with the faculty so i booked a flight literally overnight
despite the last minute notice i still tried to plan my travel such that it would allow me to reach my uni city in good time in case of any last minute issues that i might need to fix
i completed my coursework on time and attempted to submit while in transit waiting for my connecting flight, but due to the spotty wifi and lack of literally any other option i still hoped and prayed for the best. my flight was delayed by nearly 3 hours and thus i missed my bus from london, getting delayed by more than 5 hours
after landing in london i realised that tbe submisson hadn't in fact gone through and my bus was reaching only after the deadline. my laptop was nearly dead and offline thus there was nothing i could do at the last minute
almost 2 hours before the deadline i emailed the school office as soon as i realised and they said try to submit anyways (like that was still possible) and if not submit an EC. i had no idea what to do but concatenatd all the files on my phone and submitted whatever i could even though it was missing the essential CAD files which a phone cant access due the file type.
the school office was like yeah we got yoru submission dont worry but they dont understand that it's not complete and i will fail the unit
it's already a resubmission and if i dont have divine intervention then i'm going to fail the year and need to do a supplementary year as its a must pass unit. im international and paying heavy tuition and feel absolutley helpless and overwhelmed
i've been sobbing and throwing up and unable to eat ever since and even the suicide hotline was barely helpful
i've submitted an EC form and emailed again with the complete coursework today with the help of samaritans but i'm honestly lost on what to do now
i feel like i should just kill myself rather than face the embarrasment and financial consequences of this

My classmate just replied to me with this and didn't notice that she still had part of the chatGPT prompt in it... I understand that discussion posts are bland and boring and I hate them too, but it makes it VERY hard for those of us who are actually trying to do the work to have an "engaging" conversation when it's just an echo chamber of chatGPT replies. And it's scary because this class is a requirement for a nursing program..... How will these people ever give report to their coworkers in the future if they can't write 2 simple sentences on their own once a week for a discussion? Is anyone else sick of this???

I'm taking online stats and it has been a relatively easy course. Our final was open note and proctored. I had uploaded a photo of my notesheet required for previous assignment and throughout the exam, my eyes ducked consistently under the camera to look at my notesheet. The AI proctor.io flagged this and my professor deducted points. I emailed him explaining the situation and I felt like there was no way he couldve concluded I was cheating or anything. I'm really fucking scared as the class just ended and I'm not sure he's going to check emails. What if he says its too bad your eyes were not in frame enough?? please help me im so so scared

Normally, my attitude is that it’s none of my business and it doesn’t bother me. It’s their money, their life, and their experience who am I to judge why and how people do anything?
BUT since I’m a stem student, my classes overlap with some of the healthcare students. Now let me tell you… I see SO much cheating in labs. Like in ways that demonstrate to me that they aren’t even trying.
Now I know they still have to graduate, pass clinical evaluations, meet licensing requirements, and what have you, but not all safeguards are sound and these people may eventually be making decisions where a wrong answer, or even taking too long to find the right answer, can permanently injure or kill someone. And that thought enrages me. Their decisions no longer affect just their own lives but lives of future patients and I just can’t wrap my head around it. The blatant disregard to health and safety. I thought all last semester about saying something and I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Would you, as a student tell the professor?
What about as a professor, would you want to be told?

So, before this semester began(whatever I am studying), I was pretty sure I d do great because I had a really strong foundation. But one thing led to another, and I didn't study well for the exam. Now I am worried I won't even get an A. Hell, maybe not even an A- .
My biggest academic downfall is loading, and I am so stressed about why I didn't study this time. This s the first time I haven't prepared properly before exams, and I ended up writing things that were so absurd. The results will probably come out in Oct, and, to make things worse, my horoscope says Oct isn't going to be good for me.
I don't know what I will do if that happens. More than anything, it's going to be hard to accept that classmates who never scored higher than me before might get better marks than me for the first time. I honestly don't know how I'll cope with that.
I think I am not even going to drop out, and if this continues, I will eventually graduate with such low marks that they will get me nowhere. So, if anyone here is struggling with procrastination, please study first and think about dropping out or whatever thoughts after your exams are over.

So one of these stories is about my presentation, which I had yesterday, and another is one I will have tomorrow. Both of these groups are for the whole semester.
So for the first presentation, we were told before we went home that we would have a presentation after our holiday break. My group decided we would work on it after the break. Truth be told, I totally forgot about it until someone brought it up, so I take the blame for that one, but my issue is that in a group of 5 people, somehow everyone forgot. It came to the week, and one group member reminded us, so we started working on it. We agreed that we would schedule an online meeting to discuss it.
This was the first red flag because I asked if we were still having the meeting. No one bothered to make a meeting link; two of my group members were rather talking about how we should put the prompt into ChatGPT. 20 minutes passed; still nothing, so I decided to create a Google Meet myself, and they all joined. We divided the work amongst ourselves so that each person could get something to do. Personally, I don't like being asked questions on the presentation, so I chose the conclusion. All I asked was for everyone to post their part so that I could use it to finish my part. During the meeting, I told everyone they should try their best to send the drafts to me by midnight. It's only a 5-minute presentation, so 1 minute per person. It shouldn't have been hard.
The next day comes and still nothing. I send a message in the group chat reminding them, and I get left on read. Only one person sends me their part, so I'm basically forced to make do with incomplete info. The time comes, and we get chosen to present first. I was wondering how we would be able to present. Turns out they had their parts; they just chose not to share them with me for whatever reason, so a lot of the stuff they were presenting was new to me, so I had to improvise, and as you can tell, it wasn't the best it could have been. The worst part is that after we finished presenting, they proceeded to skip the rest of the class right after, so I couldn't confront them (although I'm not confrontational anyway)
For the next presentation, which is for a different course, it's not til tomorrow. However, we as a group made an agreement in our first presentation that whoever presented the first time would not present the second time, as there are only 2 presentations. That's cool right, first presentation we were all supposed to contribute drafts so that Girl A and I could present. No one decided to give their drafts except the two of us. Okay cool cool. We had a meeting, and it was only me, Girl A and Girl B who showed up. Mind you, there are 2 other guys in the group. Whilst Girl B showed up she didn't contribute much. Okay, I pay no mind. Girl A and I present and it goes well. Since we've agreed, I figured the rest would prepare for the next presentation right???!!!
As I said, it's presentation week, and the group chat is dry, so I remind them that we have a presentation. No response from anyone but Girl A, who tells them to send their parts. Still no response from any of them even though they're supposed to present. I dm Girl A about it and she tells be Girl B says she won't be presenting. I heard Girl B whisper something like that to Girl A in class but I was hoping it was maybe a joke I misheard but nooo she doesn't want to present for some reason. If it's for a legitmate reason she should inform us but since she hasn't done so it just fees like she just doesn't want to. As for the guys I genuinely don't think they've contributed a thing to the presentation. You know what makes this worse. The professor decided to be lenient and give us an extra week to do the work. This is the extra week. They just chose to do nothing. Girl A says I should make a draft but I;'m genuinely not motivated to do so since I know if I do, the others won't make one themselves.
Is there anyway I can avoid or better naviagate situations like this?

Luis here. 18m, and I got exhausted during college classes. I was learning about programming, and I didn't understand well. When I got home, I was very exhausted. It's destroying my mental health, and it's causing my scores to get low. Coding is also tiring.

Hi,
I'm an international student, and this is my first semester at an American college, so I'm still trying to figure out how everything works.
I've been going through a really difficult time with my mental health, and I was wondering if colleges in the U.S. usually offer counseling or mental health services, even if what you're struggling with has nothing to do with school or classes.
The reason I'm asking here is because I don't really know anyone at my college yet, so I don't feel comfortable asking other students, and I'm honestly a little scared of going to the front office asking for help if that's not something they actually do.
I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Ever since I've first had go write a longer paper anxiety has always plagued me. Just thinking about having to work on this mountain of work, that I don't know how to start tackling, makes me anxious, and even when I do know what I have to do it doesn't ease the stupid anxiety.
I'm anxious non-stop as I'm trying to write. It's eating up my already limited mental enegery and time. I hate writing seminary works and honestly already know working on my master's thesis is going to be unfun.

I've attended a college less than twenty minutes away from my house for the past three years and I'm tired of this, Grandpa!
When I graduated from high school I only applied to this one school because I knew it would save the most money and be the least hassle for my family, but alas, now my mental stability is the one paying the price. My dad that I do not get along with is doing his masters here in the same program as me so he knows way too many of my classmates and professors for comfort. I've wanted to transfer elsewhere since my first year, but I've been trying so hard to stick it out. Still, when I fantasize about going to a shiny new school in a distant land far, far away... it is a glorious feeling.
But I feel like I've missed my shot. I'm in my twenties now, going into my 4th year, and my GPA is only getting worse—last time I checked it was 2.something. Probably on the lower end of something. I know the best thing would probably be for me to tough it out to the end, but I also know I'm going to have at least two more years of school ahead of me, and the idea of finishing it here fills me with so much dread.
I think maybe I'm just looking for someone to tell me to take the leap despite all reason telling me I shouldn't lol

It's now only a month left before the start of a new semester. I know I should be thankful that, even if I failed twice and extended my stay at the university, I still have the privilege of continuing my schooling. However, I'm scared.
I'm honestly scared of going back to college, of enrolling in the same class, of sitting face to face with that same professor once again, of failing for the third time, and of the disappointment from the people around me.
I regret choosing this course, but I've been here for far too long. I can't quit now.
I know it's my fault because I wasn't good enough, but why do I have to be scared of failing? Why do I have to be terrified by the very thought of attending that hour-and-a-half class with the same professor again? Why do I have to be scared of being called in front one day, just to be embarrassed once again for failing to solve a simple problem in front of everyone else?
Being called in front of the class only happened once. But till now, I still mourn the thought of how ridiculous I must've looked that day. I hate my professor for doing that to me, but I hate myself just as much because it was such an easy problem.
I know this sounds pointless, but I just really want to get this off my chest. I've been holding it in since last year, but now that the time has come to take this subject again, it all just came back to me.
Well, that's it. Sorry for wasting your time with this, but thanks for reading anyway. I hope everyone enjoys the good days ahead of them.

Basically I messed up, I forgot to take an oral part of the exam even when I saw the announcement, I still interpreted wrong. So I missed the part with the professor. I talked to the TA and he told me to still reach out to him. I did, saying how it is completely my fault and asked if there was any possibility for accommodation.
He then sent me a passive-aggressive message on how he told us “multiple” times and how “unfortunate” it was for me to not listen to him (which is true, I was being so stupid, Idk how I misinterpreted ALL of them). He then mentioned that there is an option to replace my midterm grades with the final if I do well on that, as mentioned in one of his lectures.
Do I reply to this email? Should I say thank you? I don’t want to say things like “i’ll do better” but I am afraid saying ”thank you” will make him even more annoyed. Also if I do then I’ll have to send it to him past working hours, Idk if that is professional. What’s the best option here?

I am almost done with my program with 50-60 hours left to complete out of 300. I am so freaking exhausted man. For my program, we have to do 300 hours of clinical externships and we have to do it all within a span of 2 months. That means we have to do UNPAID externships FULL TIME!! I’m fortunate enough to have family to financially support me, but what the actual fck does CODA expect from dental assistants?! They expect us to go in and work full time for free for 2 months with barely any time to pick up a part time job, handle schooling, boards, and maintain a social life. And you know what the funny thing is? They say that if the extern site offers you pay for your work it DOESN’T count towards your hours. You are practically forcing people into literal slavery for no reason at all. Why can’t we find a full time job at a dental office that pays us while also getting the “experience” we need to graduate? Why do we need to rush the experience and drain the joy out of people ALL for MAYBEEEE 20 bucks an hour. I would expect this much abuse for higher paid positions like hygiene but ASSISTING?? God I’m so frustrated that I had to cut 4 hours from my shift today to stay at home which I’ll most likely be getting side eyes from at the dental office when I get back EVEN THOUGH they don’t need me at all and I’m not getting paid.

Backstory: I am a late 20s undergraduate student working on my bachelors in computer science. I am also a father of 2 kids, both very young. And I work full time.
I knew I would never have time to be an on-campus student, not when my work schedule is 8 to 5pm and my kids being so young, I can't bring myself to let their mother handle all the responsibilities. So I opted for being online student. I can make my own schedule and do my homework in my free time between everything else I need to do. It has been great for 3 terms.
HOWEVER, I was dismayed when I saw that I was assigned to a group project. WHEN would I have time to meet with these strangers that I never met. I avoid socializing when I can, typing is different to me, idky.
We all messaged each other through the forums and all had COMPLETE opposite schedules so we did what we could. Luckily, we didn't need to figure out Zoom, or Microsoft Teams or anything like that as we just used the forum.
But the principle of the matter is, I chose an Online program to manage my own education and schedule, I should not be roped into group projects when I am already so busy trying to provide for my family.

I'm in my capstone course for my masters program this summer. It's a hard course mainly due to how condensed the timeline is on everything. We have presentations and technical reports for three different companies on our processes, methods, and findings for the problems they give us. We have a lot to do and it requires initiative and planning to keep on top of everything. Not to mention every single project is a group project.
Why are we (my classmates), in a masters program (a fairly niche one you have to go out of your way to find programs, apply to and get into), still copy-pasting info and calling that a good presentation? With no formatting, nothing? Why are we not doing any amount of work on a project until one of your other group members explicitly tells you what to do and even how to do it? And WHY are you also opting out of presenting because you're shy or nervous????? I understand anxiety, but if you put the least amount of work in why do you feel you have the right to refuse to present as well? Not that I would want them to because they would probably do poorly, but honestly. Presentations are a part of this degree and frankly a part of the job we all want after this degree. If you can't do them you will have problems.
It's so frustrating. I feel like I am fixing all of their mistakes and having to hold their hand through this process just so it doesn't tank my own grade. I'm the one who stays up late editing things because they half assed their only part. Why are they even in a graduate program, let alone a program for a niche field in which you cannot skate by, and often are the only member of your team with this degree and training? Meaning you have to know what to do and actually do it???
And these people will probably get an internship or job before me for some reason after applying to one place, and I can't get one internship out of eighteen I applied to to even give me the courtesy of a rejection email.

I am a rising senior at a top public university in the U.S. Over the last school year, I became so heavily burnt out that I dropped out of most of my classes and have remained severely burnt out till now. I can barely brush my teeth and shower around twice a month.
I have no internships so far and haven't been able to do ECs because school works takes so much out of me. I am not joking when for my entire college experience, my workload means no free time, no sleep, no ECs, no hobbies and ONLY classes (and that getting Cs in half of my CS classes). I have tried doing ECs but haven't been able to finish them due to school.
After redoing one of my classes over break, I have gotten burned out again but even stronger. One of my parent's sent me to work at one of my relative's company (which I am very grateful for) but the pressure of doing an "internship" is sending me to severe burnout again. And now I am not doing anything the entire day but sitting on my laptop (remote work) trying to finish this work but can't.
I feel so hopeless about the future and my parents are saying that I'm just going to work in Mcdonalds. I won't be able to graduate in 4 years, and my parents are saying they will stop supporting me after some time (before I would finish the degree). I'm just not what sure to do at this point and considering dropping my "internship" because I just can't do it anymore.
What should I do?

I’m just so tired. About to enter my 2nd year this fall and as a working student, there’s very little to look forward to.
I’m forced to put away 25+ hours of my time a week to meet rent. I have two part-time jobs and I can’t even be good at either of them because I’m always either sleep deprived or malnourished.
My grades suck. Went through some rough patches my first semester due to being unable to balance both school and work. It’s gotten better now but the stain on my GPA is still apparent.
My problem is never being able to pick a side/fully commit to either. I need to sacrifice my free time for work but that leads me short on studying. Reverse that and I’m gonna be homeless with nowhere to go. I have no social life. No dreams. No drive.
I’m so jealous of the star students in my grade with internships and opportunities stacked for them. Yet I’m also jealous of my coworkers who just need to work their full-time hours and rest for the day.
There’s very little I can do about this now other than to wait it out before I can find a higher paying job. Job market in my city sucks too. Everything just sucks in general.

On track to graduate in 3.5 years, but I have no internship experience, will only have crappy research experience and unrelated minimum wage job. Would it help me at all to graduate in the spring (so 4 years) or no?
