Hello all! I am pretty set on ED to colgate, but I really need some insight on the social scene. I know greek life participation is only for sophomores and up, so i’m assuming as a freshman I wouldn’t be able to party (please correct me if i’m wrong). What does a normal day or weekend look like? How often do people go off campus - will I feel isolated if I am someone who for example likes to go shopping on the weekends? I would get a car so i’m not super worried about that as long as there is enough entertainment on campus, I really don’t want to feel like i’m either studying or rotting in bed.

I will be coming to Colgate with 6 AP credits. How hard would it be to graduate early? Saving a semester or two of tuition would really make a difference.

Hello everyone! My name's Minh, and I'm a Vietnamese student who committed to studying at Colgate for the next 4 years with a full-ride. However, I'm basically the first person in my extended family to ever study abroad, and as such I have a tons of questions that I couldn't find a definite answer to online - mostly regarding food, housing, and actual living costs at Colgate. It would be hella awesome and I'd greatly appreciate it if any of you could help with my concerns below.

1. During breaks within the 9 academic months covered by my financial aid (recesses, winter break, fall break, spring break, Thanksgiving), do I still have access to my meal plans and housing? Or will I have to apply separately and pay for them?
2. I linked most of my stuff to a Vietnamese SIM (and phone number) - including the OTP verification for logging into my Colgate email and portals. However, I'm planning to get a new phone that can use ESIM and purchase a phone plan when I arrive in the US. Will I have to sustain my Vietnamese phone plan also?
3. I plan to obtain a debit card at a bank near campus once I get the chance to. My mom already has a VISA card registered to her name. Will I be able to use her card information to pay off immediate/emergency fees when I get to the US (stuff like school supplies and random fees that may pop up)
4. Colgate Financial Aid doesn't cover the 3 summer months after the academic year (as far as i know). As of right now, I want to stay at Colgate over the summer and either have my housing costs covered or pay for my own expenses through summer jobs.
   1. How do I go about figuring out the process and requirements for summer employment at Colgate?
   2. As a first year, am I eligible to apply for any Summer Internship Funding and Career Exploration Grants? (i found them here https://www.colgate.edu/success-after-colgate/career-development/internships-fellowships/summer-internship-funding-and)

For some context, I'm coming from another top LAC in the Midwest. I want to leave my current school for a few reasons: it's expensive, isolated, really far from home, and graduating outcomes at my school aren't anything too impressive. Honestly, I'm not doing well in my current situation and I'm ready for a reset, a fresh start.

Anyways, I got into Colgate with a full ride with work study, but I feel conflicted. Colgate's in a much better position, it's affordable, and it has great grad outcomes. The only thing that's giving me pause is the social scene.

Apparently it's very fratty and wealthy and tons of people transfer out because of it? I'm not too interested in frats and one of the few things I like about my current school is it's very socioeconomically diverse with no frats.

I definitely should've given myself more options, but I thought I had no choice at any school needing as much financial aid as I do. Should I take the plunge and see what happens?

I'm considering Colgate, but I was wondering whether they offer graduate-level research since they don't really have any graduate programs. Any information helps, thanks!

I’m looking for honest opinions from people who actually understand finance recruiting.

I’m a European student considering Colgate, ( have an offer ) and my long-term goal is to work in investment banking or finance. My problem is that the top universities in Europe would cost me about one-third of what Colgate would cost, so I’m struggling to figure out whether Colgate is really worth it.

I also got rejected by Columbia this year, which was my dream school, so now I’m trying to be realistic and evaluate my actual options.

How good is Colgate really for IB / finance placement? Can someone from there still break into strong firms, or would I be making life much harder for myself compared with going to a top European university for far less money?

I’d especially appreciate replies from people who know Colgate, have gone through recruiting, or work in finance themselves. This is a serious decision for me, so I’m really not looking for generic “follow your heart” advice.

It’s no secret that fraternities play a big role in Colgate’s social environment. It sounds like, for guys, not being in a fraternity can make for a lonely social life. So how hard is it to get into a fraternity? Is the rush process competitive? Are there guys who get completely shut out? Are there houses where a kid who is on the needy side or doesn’t really like bro culture can feel comfortable?

Hey all, I'm a prospective student pretty set on attending colgate this Fall, and I'm wondering what specs my laptop should have so that it'll last me for my time at school. I currently have an M1 256gb storage 8gb ram macbook that's been suffering pretty badly, as it freezes up for minutes if I try to have more than a dozen google tabs open at once (and can barely run roblox for that matter lol). In addition, I plan on majoring in Astronomy & Physics and then pursuing an aerospace engineering degree from a partner school through the 3-2 program. I was thinking of just upgrading to the latest M5 macbook air of this year, but I'm wondering if my major at colgate and future one at a partner school would need a more powerful laptop for programs, applications, etc. I'm fine with either a mac or windows system, as I appreciate the mac convenience of compatibility with my apple products, but I also am more accustomed to windows systems and really like being able to use .exe files. I'd like advice on what type of decently powerful (yet quiet!) laptop would make the most sense for my situation, and particularly a system that's future-proof for 5-6 years, which I think would mean at least 1TB of storage and 16gb (or more) of RAM, but I'm not sure about cpu cores and GPUs that would last the longest. There are Micro Centers, Best Buys, etc. very near to me (and amazon is always an option). Also, my budget would hopefully be $1000-1500, with a hard stop at $2000.

Hey guys, Colgate University is an outstanding education. I have done my research and I am not afraid of working hard. To the current students, help me understand comments on grade inflation and deflation. Which is it? Do you feel it’s an uphill battle or does it just depend on the professor, like all universities?
