Back in 2017, during their A Head Full of Dreams tour, Coldplay was supposed to come to Houston. Unfortunately, the concert fell on the same night Hurricane Harvey made “Trouble in Town” on its way in.

They had to cancel the show and said they would return at the end of the tour, but it never ended up happening. The following night in Miami, they wrote and performed a song for the people of Houston and said they would never perform it again.

Fast-forward five years, and they were finally able to make it back to Houston! They ended up performing the song again, this time with a few improvements.

That concert was my first time seeing the band, and it was awesome. I still get goosebumps every time I hear the song!

And the bridge of this song in particular was always a highlight of, not just this album...but of the entire CP discography for sure, IMHO.

Discussion First time listening to A Rush of Blood to the Head starting this week.

So, Parachutes and the EPs were great, enjoying the early sound of the groups music sonic development. Honestly, all those songs were my first time ever hearing them in their own right. Lately, they remind of a 21st-century beach rock pop revival, so with A Rush of Blood to the Head, I'm feeling more excited for this one because one of my favorite songs from them is on the album which is "Clocks" it's so electronic and atmospheric which sounds like a total whiplash from anything I've heard lately on their earlier work, I love their signature synth-pop structures what they're known for today, so I'm very eager to get into this one, I feel they'll begin to come to form with the sound I love about them, but anyways, without spoiling anything for me, I love to hear your takes on this sophomore release from 2002!

Question What is the mystery tote

Hey everyone, I just bought merch from the European Coldplay website and I am going to get a free mystery tote.
Is there anyone that has received such thing? What to expect? Is it the same one as the one from reused Rose Bowl concert materials?
Thanks so much for the answers 🌍🪐

Discussion As a lover of Coldplay's first four albums (especially Viva la Vida), I went into Mylo Xyloto expecting to dislike it. I ended up adoring it.

I started getting into Coldplay through Parachutes and then A Rush of Blood to the Head before moving on to the next two albums. I loved all of them but there was a bit of a reservation on my end to continue past Viva because of how people have been talking about the pop era of Coldplay, especially with Mylo Xyloto as the one dubbed as the point where everything declines. So unlike the first four, I decided to test out a few songs from Mylo Xyloto.

I first tried out Paradise since it was the most popular song of the album. It was exactly as I expected, having a very early 2010s pop sound with Coldplay's melancholic mood I was very much familiar with. I was prepared to accept it as a solid pop song... and then Jonny did a guitar solo.

That gave me hope for the rest of the album.

The next one I tried was Charlie Brown. I was shocked to hear that Jonny's guitar work was all over that song and it genuinely became one of my favorite Coldplay songs.

Eventually I decided to try out the rest of the album. By the end of my listen, I can definitely say that I adored this album. My favorite ended up being Every Teardrop is a Waterfall because it fooled me into thinking it'd be another 2010s pop song... then Jonny just carried the entire thing. In fact, that sentiment was present with me the entire album.

Does this mean my reservations are gone? I wouldn't say so. I know that eventually, Jonny and the other guys will become supporters to the band's growing pop sound. But at the very least, I am willing to at least try them.

In conclusion, don't let popular opinions dissuade you from trying out a band's new sound yourself.

Discussion Did I fixed the ordering of Everyday life?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I am a big fan of Everyday life, I can't even describe how much impact this album has on my life, but whenever I listened to it the order of tracks felt a bit off, few songs start where the other song ends. For example the Trouble in town ends with a heartbeat and daddy starts with a heartbeat, but broken is in the middle. I've reorded it according to this. If anyone has any theories about the order or has cracked the philosophy behind it, please share!

Discussion The Scientist feels slowed down for some reason?

The Scientist is probably my favorite Coldplay song, and i’ve started listening to it while going to sleep. But since i’ve started doing that, the song feels like it’s moving super slow, almost artificially slowed down. Lmk if i’m trippin, this has really been weirding me out

Question Why Do People Like Parachutes and ARoBttH?

Why do people like Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head so much? Everyone always puts them at the top of their tier lists. In my opinion, they’re good albums with some great and memorable songs, but I can’t say they’re my favorites. I personally prefer X&Y, Viva La Vida and Mylo Xyloto. Those albums are more interesting and have nicer melodies to me. This isn’t a troll post and I’m not trying to piss people off. I’m just genuinely curious why these particular albums are so popular beyond them simply being the OGs. Please don’t downvote me into the abyss…

Discussion Chris / Coldplay's put together a good halftime show that was well thought out.

I very much enjoyed the halftime show. It really put a smile on my face. Though we didn't get to see much of them, Coldplay's signature 'fingerprint' was all over the show from the color scheme, to the theme of LOVE, to even the artist line-up was well thought out.

They put thought into, and made sure the artist line up represented a wide variety of world cultures, from BTS, to Burna Boy, to Shakira, just to name a few. Thought was even put into the inclusion of the PS (Public School) 22 Kids Choir, which also made sense. Highlighting a school kids choir wasn't a coincidence. Coldplay's involvement in the World Cup has raised an estimated $100 MILLION dollars through their partnered charity Global Citizen. These donations are already helping to education kids around the world in an effort to lift them out of poverty.

Think about that $100 MILLION raised for Charity, that's Amazing!!!

Good on you Coldplay...nothing but Love. ❤

I had so much fun doing Viva, it took a lot of time with the brush in Photoshop but I’m really happy of the final result.
The front cover is so good I wanted to pay tribute of how much I love it <3
