Summer council meeting underway
Big agenda for today's summer council meeting, including the Parks And Recreation Master Plan, updates on the planning for a new Y facility in Cobourg, and probably most contentiously, the development proposal for 202 Second Street. That item alone has generated 69 pieces of correspondence, all (as far as I can see) against the proposed 8-storey development behind Victoria Hall. You may watch the meeting live: https://calendar.cobourg.ca/council

Do you recognize:
- Where in Cobourg this photo was taken?
- The infamous 21st century war photo it reminds me of?

Dozen C8 Corvettes off Danforth
I recently drove past 8365 Danforth near Jay’s Landscaping and there must have been a dozen brand new looking C8 Corvettes just parked in a line behind the gates. All different colours.
Does anyone know why they are there?

202 Second Street - Public Hearing July 22nd at 1 pm
Cobourg council will hold a public meeting July 22nd at 1 pm to discuss the proposed development at 202 Second Street. It seems that council is in favour of approving their requests, which include a by-law amendment to allow for an 8 storey development (taller than Victoria Hall).
This development will only allow for 11 commercial parking spaces, will add 10 commercial units (because we don’t have enough empty storefronts), and is comprised of studio, 1 bed, 1 bed + den, and 2 bedroom units.
They previously held a public meeting with the developers present to allow for comment. I attended and spoke - the developers conducted themselves with scorn and derision for residents. The public response was overwhelmingly negative with many points, including strong condemnation from two prior mayors.
If you feel strongly about this, I urge you to attend or submit a written statement. Cobourg needs more AFFORDABLE housing while balancing the needs for a supportive downtown, this project is not that.
From the council announcement: “This Summer Council Meeting will be held using a hybrid meeting model. The public may view the Council meeting in person or online via the Town of Cobourg livestream. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please email [email protected].
If you would like to speak to an agenda item electronically via Zoom, please email [email protected] no later than 12:00 p.m. the business day prior to the meeting and you will be registered as a virtual speaker. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback, please email [email protected].”

I realized something. Cobourg doesn't have any Strip Clubs, Adult Video, Prostitution or Massage Parlours.
Thoughts on this?

Where are the young adults?
Worked like a dog, finally get a chance to work less and socialize more but can't find anyone my age.
Coffee shops are barren, bars have a few older men, checked in the library a few times as soneone suggested. I'm looking for late 20's, 30's, early 40's folks.
Beach isn't really my style, but if that's where everyone is all the time I guess I could check it out. Anywhere else the fun is gathering I dont know about?

Free Co-Ed pickup soccer tonight in Hastings!
Just a reminder; we’ve got a fairly big group of people playing soccer a little bit outside cobourg tonight at 7. We’re playing outside the Hastings field house. All skill levels are welcome and everyone is super friendly! Feel free to come on by and bring your kids and significant other as well. All ages are welcome to play! Cleats and shin pads aren’t necessary, just try to bring a dark and light shirt so we can balance teams based on skill level.

Radon
Has anyone in Cobourg had their house tested for Radon? I'm curious because the map of Ontario showing the averages per city does not include Cobourg. I find it odd that Cobourg has no data. What were the levels that you had?
Thanks!

Baby first aide training?
Baby parents of Cobourg, where did you go for training for helping a choking baby, and baby first aide? I’m having a baby in the winter, and I’d like to be prepared but have no idea where to go for that.

Help moving a new bathtub upstairs?
Hi. I have an injured ulnar nerve and I have a bath tub coming Tuesday the 14. I need some help getting it up a flight of stairs. It's 120 lbs so it's not too bad but I can't lift it without doing further damage. I will obviously pay, I just don't know where to find a couple of people to help. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes at the very most.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: spelling

Parking for Visitors
Alright don’t get up in arms for me just looking for options, but I’m from a city in the GTA where $40 a day parking is just not ever a thing. I am looking for any alternatives to the public parking option. Spot Hero didn’t have anything. I’m willing on walking up to 25 minutes from Victoria Park or West Beach. Locals or experienced visitors, please let me know what my options may be please.
Looking for this Saturday. If anyone has a driveway they’d let me park in for cash I’m open to that too.

Pokemon Go Fest 2026 (a place to meet new ppl and catch Pokemon)
This post is about information about a Pokemon GO event I plan to host in downtown Cobourg.
LOOKING TO MEET NEW PEOPLE?
Whether or not you have played Pokemon go before is irrelevant. My name is Kyle a 28yr old male and have about 13 people around the same age group. There is no skill or buy in required, just have Pokemon go installed and it will be a fun day to meet new people and play the game.
EVENT INFORMATION
Outside of Victoria Hall/kellys homlike inn
Saturday&Sunday July 11&12
10:00am-7pm
There is an app called Niantic Campfire that I will be posting more details about the event for.
I hope this isn’t cons spamming as I made a post about this about 2 weeks ago

What is this strategy?
Did anyone else notice the mayor skipped walking with the rest of council in the parade and cruised along in Corvette instead?
I just don’t understand the point of that. To me it looked like he was showing his superiority and living out some corvette driving fantasy.

I will be in Cobourg tomorrow during the day, I’m wondering where do I go to find people who will let me play with them?

Ideas needed: 13 Year Old's Birthday
Where can we go to celebrate a 13 year old girl's birthday in town in mid-July? We just moved into the area and 3 of her friends from our old city are taking the train in to help her celebrate. Other than a sleepover at our house, what can we do in the 24 hours (mid-week) that they're here?
If the weather is good, we'll hit the beach. I know that they'd like anything instagrammable, or cute, or trendy, or has "vibes". They're very much girly girls. Are there any good patios that I could take them to for appetizers and blended (non-alcoholic) drinks?
It's a milestone year for her and we just did a big move - I'd like to really make her feel like the area is 'cool' (or at least has potential) and give her and her friends a fun time out and about.

Dear “Coal Roller”
To the guy in the dark colour truck travelling northbound on William street this evening some time after 5pm who thinks it’s cool to roll coal on a cyclist, you’re really cool. Now I’d totally understand if I was fully kitted out in my matching Le Col Lycra ripping down the side of the road sucking back a gel pack on my road bike while doing 35km/h hurting your sensibilities but I wasn’t. I was on the side walk with my 5 year old trying to enjoy the warm weather on our mountain bikes.
To those in the community that know this person or have dash cam footage of the incident I’d love to connect so that I can file the appropriate report with the local and provincial authorities.
Cheers!

Anyone know what's going on here?
This building's been sitting for months and no one's renting out the units. Does anyone know why?
