Hey there! I’m pretty new to gardening and learning a lot about growing fruit trees. I’ve heard you should cut off suckers that come from the roots stock so I wasn’t sure if that’s what this was, or if that’s just good healthy growth from the fruiting tree?

When I asked Google AI, it said cut it off, but I’d be much more confident getting that type of advice from a real human lol.

Based the photo, I thought the red line is the graft line so above that would be the fruiting tree’s leaves, wouldn’t it?

I’ve had this ponderosa lemon tree for about 5 years now and have never really done anything to it since it’s been so great. it’s loaded up with about 20 lemons now and the branches are hanging quite low. I obviously won’t do anything right now but come early spring next year does anyone have any advise for pruning it so it starts to grow more vertical? it’s gotten pretty wide, hardly fits through the fence gate when I have to bring it in during the winter when it gets below freezing. I’ve never pruned a tree before this is really the first plant I’ve had so any advice is appreciated. thanks!

First time grafting and rooting citrus cuttings grafting 2 shiranui, 1 variegated sour orange, 1 variegated cara cara, 1 variegated pink eureka, and 1 variegated kumkuat. What i didnt give away to people in my local plant group i decided to try to root. I noticed the variegated cara caras and kumkauts failed exceptionally fast with both methods. The variegated sour orange graft was looking good but unfortunately looks like its now starting to fail. Photos at 8 days progress.

Im assuming some of them already pushing new growth is a good sign. I vent the dome for about 10-20 minutes a day. Used .8% rooting hormone and coco coir for the cuttings im attempting to root and an airlayer on meyer lemon. Root stock from 4 winds and budwood from Madison. Pretty sure im hooked, this is way too much fun 😁

I’m in Los Angeles, Zone 10a. I have a few lemon, lime, and orange trees, all less than 4 feet tall. Most planted about 1 year ago. They are fruiting but not growing new leaves and I’m struggling with watering/soil health. My soil is probably too alkaline, around 6.5-7. Trying to lower it with sulfur. Watering: I feel like during hot streaks, I should be watering when the top 2 inches dry out, but my moisture meter reads as wet as it can read when I stick it down 7-8 inches.

When citrus is in ground, do I trust the finger test or the moisture meter? Just maddening, but I kinda assume they’re a bit like raising kids….keep them alive and in a few years they are less needy!

I posted on here a while ago about my satsuma tree which was having issues. I ended up taking advice from the comments and discussions with pro gardeners, but the tree just kind of gave up. All the leaves had dried up and the most of the trunk became brown with no obvious sign of any green in the bark with scratch test anywhere. I did the big chop as a very last resort and kind of just left it and let fate take its course. Well, I go out there after ignoring it for a solid 2 weeks and LOOK! It’s alive????!!!! Probably because we’ve had such heretical rain recently and some kind of act of god

But… I am worried that this growth is below the grafting point and I won’t have an orange producing tree. Thoughts???

Hi! This Meyer lemon tree has not bloomed in 3 years despite fertilizing it in the warmer months. It just occurred to me that the grafted part may no longer be dominant. I’ve cut some limbs on it over the years. Thoughts? Is there a way to get it to produce again? Thanks!

Grew out of my compost 5 years ago

I got a lime tree from Costco 3 years ago that hasn’t grown much. It flowers and gives me like 3 limes but hasn’t grown. I’ve been using foliage pro to fertilize the last 2 months and have seen a lot more green leaves but in the last week noticed these growing from the base. Is it rootstock? Do I need to remove this?

Please help identify what this is. I’ve planted these eureka 35 years ago and I noticed 3 out of 4 have splitting on the trunks and some amber ooze. The canopy looks fine and we have a great crop of lemons this year but I’m really worried about this trunk issue.
The only thing recently the zones were changed and this zone was added to the rose section. They get more water than normal and are slightly recessed from ground level. No pooling but the dust is damp

What exactly is this? New growth? Do I need to do anything with it? I live in Texas and it’s extremely hot right now.

My tree is in zone 9B in Northern California. I think it is stressed. It didn’t flower much this year. But all of a sudden there are many new shoots. Is this a good sign or are these suckers?

Heyy , I grow few fruits trees in pot in my backyard but I always wanted to add a citrus tree to my collection. Someone sell this unknown mandarin tree for 15€ /17$ (≈ 21€/ 24$ with the fees delivery). So should I buy this ? It is a good deal ?

Second year since I planted in a hot 10B zone but it's been a relatively mild summer so far. I fertilize regularly and keep it organic. It's on a low volume drip line 3 days a week. A few lemons are growing but there's some leaf damage. Cause of concern?

My cara cara orange is starting to bloom again is this normally or is it stress, normally she is only blooming in spring the last 2 seasons.

Noticed some leaves yellowing on my Meyer lemon- this is my first citrus and I’m still fairly newish to gardening. Any idea what these could be?

I fertilize with citrus fertilizer 3/4 times a year and more frequently with a fish fertilizer. Planted in Gary’s best top pot.

First season with this tree and it is loaded with lemons. Still putting off fresh growth, and in terms of my other plants doesn’t seem to have a lot of pests? (Pests usually prefer my hibiscus and pepper plants) I am pretty hands off with pest control though, I buy predatory bugs every other month, and use occasional neem oil- but honestly I get lots of good bugs and pollinators so I try not to do too much unless it’s getting out of hand.

Located in Florida 11a. I planted a calamondin tree almost a year ago but there has been no fruit. I noticed that most of the tree was thorny and growing leaves in threes. After some research in this sub, I realized this may be rootstock takeover :(

There is a tiny part that seems to be from the actual calamondin but it’s only a couple of leaves. Is the calamondin salvageable? Should I remove all the rootstock branches?
