Mine is when it’s Upham standing at the bottom of the stairs in Saving Private Ryan

Was babysitting and was asked if they could watch something scary. Not wanting to be responsible for nightmares I opted for child friendly horror and brought up something from my own childhood, Are you afraid of the dark?

They weren’t that interested but then I noticed that this kid looked strangely familiar. Lo and behold, this is the first appearance of Ryan Gosling.

So that got me thinking, what movies or tv shows have you watched that were the first appearances of now super famous actors?

Recently started a marathon of the Terminator franchise, not having seen any of them in over a decade. Not only did I forget how solid of a film both 1 and 2 are. But upon finishing T2, I forgot just how much Robert Patrick utterly steals the show from Arnie in this film. With little to no dialogue, he plays one of the most stone cold movie villians I've ever seen.

What examples would you guys give when asked when a a movie's "main attraction", or A-list star, has been completely outshone by a co-star?

Things that couldve made it more gripping IMO

1. If frank lucas and Richie interacted much earlier in the film instead of only in the climax.

2. If the Italian mobs and lucas gang had a clash

3. If the idris elba character had found the drug from Vietnam before getting killed

Watching the Other Mommy trailer again, and thinking about Jessica Chastain’s career and how bonkers it truly is. She’s so so chaotic, there are at least 4 careers rolled into her last 15 years. 

Her prestige + acclaimed films from 2011-2014 - Tree of Life, Zero Dark Thirty, A Most Violent Year, Interstellar.

Her “leading stah” phase from 2015-2017, steadfast no-nonsense ladies in Miss Sloane, Mollys Game etc. 

The random commercial slop + action phase from 2018-2020. Ava, 355, Huntsman, Dark Phoenix.

Just when literally everyone wrote her out, critically and commercially, she gets in the running for the Triple Crown in 2021-2023, with an Oscar win + back-to-back Emmy/Tony nods. And gives her best performance (imo) in Scenes from a Marriage.

A normal actress would have done the most obvious prestige film out there but no…..out of no f*ing where she works with a Mexican director Michel Franco in two utterly obscure, austere arthouse movies, circa 2023-2025. Which probably 2 people saw, at some prestigious film festival.

And now, in the year of 2026, she’s…….Other Mommy????? in some live-action Coraline.

Truly one of the most adventurous actresses out there, and compared to other actresses in her generation (think Kate Winslet, Amy Adams, Michelle Williams etc) she’s just so much more interesting.

I am a big fan of detective films, some of my favorites are Prisoners, Knives Out trilogy, Seven and if you consider it The Nice Guys.

I am open for recomendations and is there somebody else like me.

Like the title says, I'm on route to go see The Odyssey in IMAX but unfortunately I'm about 30 mins late. I can't switch tickets or times. Can anyone tell me if im missing out on something major or anything i have to know? Thanks.

The picture is from dolby cinema in amb cinemas Bengaluru, I donno why theatres or audi's are planned this way , where the best viewing angle ( center ) will be stairs ?? To match the center view we must book the corner seats , but these theatres or audi's doesn't have mechanisms to turn off the stairs lights and the alphabet markings which will give a horrible trouble , I have experienced this in most of the theatres and malls ( manasa , gt mall etc etc and now in dolby cinema too. ) this is a huge dolby cinema red flag for me . During dark scenes in odyssey the stairs lights were interrupting a lot . Does anyone know why they do these type of seatings , are they dumb or what , or is there any valid reason for that ????(

Mission: Impossible (1996)

The movie that kickstarted 30 years of Mission Impossible movies. I think that when Hunt is running away from that aquarium restaurant (one of my favorite scenes, by the way) is the precise moment Tom Cruise fell in love with two things.

Running really fast, really far and doing his own stunts. Can't blame a guy. I imagine that would've been thrilling as HELL. And hey, he made an actual goddamn career out of doing that, so he's got that goin' for him, which is nice.

Mad props to this one for bringing Jean Reno on board. He's one of my absolute favorite actors and any chance to see him is a good time.

My one and only issue is one that grows more pronounced every time I watch this absolute banger, and that's Jon Voigt. I think the guy is a great actor and he does a serviceable job here, but he just feels more and more wrong for the part.

My dislike for Voigt in this role aside, Mission Impossible is awesome.

His newest film, Motor City, premiered at Venice last year and is out in theaters everywhere July 24th via IFC. It co-stars Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, Pablo Schreiber, Ben McKenzie, and Lionel Boyce. It's directed by Potsy Ponciroli ('Old Henry', 'Greedy People')

For me, the medic scene at the end of Captain Phillips was so devastating because I wasn't expecting anything like that from a popcorn movie. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie overall, but that scene was a punch to the gut.

Got me wondering what else kind of hits like that.
