I pretty much only play 3 min blitz and have reached about 1780 elo over like 12k games. However I still get so triggered by super defensive players (exaggerating here but partly true haha)

To me chess is only fun if you’re just sending it and trying to do fun tactics and stuff - especially in blitz - but some players are just obsessed with only playing the most solid defensive moves and pushing pawns constantly to block the board. Or worst of all - just instantly trying to trade every piece and get to end game ASAP (that is the absolute worst thing ever for me who are you people lol). It seems as though some players don’t even look for the attacking options they just see the most defensive move and automatically play that

I’ve never really studied or watched chess videos or anything but I do know this is a legit strategy, even some top level pros do this, I guess my question is HOW? Like how is that fun for you? And what’s the best way to counter? Like we are only 1700 we are miles off being a pro, isn’t it just about having fun? I just find it so painful and tedious and slow. I never enjoy super defensive games where the board is all blocked and definitely have the most fun when pieces are flying everywhere.

As an aside, I have found the majority (~70%) of players from India seem to play this super defensive style, much more likely than players from other countries (e.g. Brazilians at the opposite end are like 80% attacking players) - why do you think that is?

**Absolutely no shade or hate intended towards my Indian friends (unless the cricket is on 😂) just wondering if that’s the way it is taught in schools or something? Some other cultural thing?

I just did the “defense” lesson, sometimes I feel like I leave these lessons being more confused than before. I’m super new player just trying to get better. I feel like these lessons sometimes just confuse me. Why would I trade queens? how am I now ready to win the game? Does anyone have any other resources for beginners wanting to improve.

My rating stayed around 1700-1800 for a long time (around a year), and I had some exams coming up so I stopped playing regularly. Now that I’m back I’ve gone up to 2000 in like 10 days.

I am a beginner (roughly 300 elo), and I can play decently if my opponent plays normal moves such as e4 e5, however when they start pushing their middle pawns, and making chains in the center I get confused and often hang a piece, how should i punish these early pawn "storms"?

The most advice I hear when it comes to chess is to just keep playing and do puzzles. I am bad. Just bad. I study on the techniques, watch games, get advice from friends, and play several games every day. My win rate is super low and my ELO is embarrassing. I’m just…stuck? I lose almost every single game, what’s the next step from here?

Finally hit 2000 across the board! So happy! Rapid was the hardest for me to get. Blitz was the easiest.

What the title says. I know that Chess.com has the coach and game reviews and all that but well for one, I don't really have the financial bandwidth to pay for unlimited access and second, I learn way faster when I have a real living person there to guide me and stuff, even if not in person.

For reference I know how to move the pieces and have a vague idea on how to lay traps (most of the time...I think), however I have a tendency to rush my turns and not see traps the opponent has laid.

So anyone (preferably patient because I imagine most of my moves will probably be very frustrating) up for tutoring 😭 if nothing else I can promise good company in return

Hello everybody. This is my firsttime posting on here so sorry if something are off but please bare with me.

I've been playing the Scandinavian since I was 400, and now I'm 1200-1300(I plateaud, and have been on a decline lately) And I noticed most of my losses are from the Scandinavian, yes I've had great success with it but I feel I've hit a brick wall and don't get the same results as I do with white (I play the Queen's Gambit)

I legit only know these two openings, tho' I never dived into the theory of each hence I'm asking you all for help I feel it's finally time I learned the theory behind the Scandinavian.

Issue is I have no idea what theory even is, I've just been freestyling all this time and haven't studied, I barely even do puzzles but I want to keep improving.

Yes, I am aware of the criticism surrounding the Scandi mainly due to early queen is not the best, but it's worked thus far. And I really don't like playing e4 because I feel like that pawn is too weak especially as black, white can pile an attack on you very fast while developing and you are just forced to react and wait for white to waste a move to gain tempo.

Hence I only play d4

PELASE if anyone has any advice, material, videos and so forth please help. I'm open to new opening suggestions aswell assuming you can convince me it's worth considering as a better alternative.

For those of you wondering what type of Scandinavian I play, I genuinely don't know I just go with the flow most of the time (plus I don't know the squares)

Has anyone really thought about how accurate these stats from premium are. I think my openings can't be *that poor compared to my peers

I've been playing a thousand games of Blitz and only a hundred in rapid so I'm playing really fast finishing game with 6-7min on the clock with no extra time.

I've also played chess in bars with a clock and it happens to me quite often to beat my opponent on the clock with still 3-4min on the clock

what is the punishment for too many games abandoned? and where is that threshold? time for me to find and subscribe to another simulator

One of the most brutal checkmating ideas ever. What is this. Looks like a pawn trade for black but leads to mate in 16... gotta be watching for these mate in 16 patterns guys.

Showed almost every route the king could try. The most violent is the pawn mate. The most insane is the queen mate because you hang the knight twice but it cant be taken or theres a faster mate, engine thinks im hikaru if im finding Rg5 and Rxe5. Ill play qh5 instead, i still won this game up 1 pawn somehow.
