I built an interactive war-drama with AI-generated art — hand-written story, free in the browser, free in App Store

Post image
5 Upvotes

I'm a solo dev. Just released Swamps — a choice-based interactive fiction about a village healer in German-occupied Belarus, 1941. Free, plays right in the browser: https://hkoshur.itch.io/swamps-the-price-of-choice
or download in App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swamps-the-price-of-choice/id6784005077

How AI fit in (since that's what this sub cares about):

  • Art: around 80 illustrations — art for its scenes and locations — generated with AI image tools and then curated/edited into a single painterly style. That's the thing that let one person ship an illustrated narrative game.
  • Code: built with ink (inkjs) + React; a lot of the shell/tooling was written with an AI coding assistant.
  • Writing: the story, the choices, the prose — all mine, written by hand. That's the part I didn't outsource; it's the heart of it.

It's stark, not a power fantasy — no "right" answers, only consequences the whole district remembers. Five chapters, deeply branching, in Russian / English / Belarusian. Also on the App Store; Part Two — The Year of the Blockade — is coming in 2026.

Happy to talk through the AI pipeline (what worked, what didn't), and I'd genuinely love feedback on the game itself.

Quick naming test for an AI-assisted story-game guide: “Raconteur” or “Storyteller”?

1 Upvotes

I’m validating language for a very early text-based, AI-assisted story-game concept. There’s no product or pitch here; I’m only testing first impressions.

Without looking anything up:

  1. Which feels more inviting: “Meet your Raconteur” or “Meet your Storyteller”?

  2. What product would you expect from each?

  3. What one-word vibe does “Raconteur” give you?

  4. Does “Raconteur” need a definition?

You can reply here, or use this anonymous two-minute form (no email or sign-in required):

I made a murder mystery game with no fixed answer key

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I just released The Day She Died, a free browser-based murder mystery where you interrogate 8 suspects to solve a sudden death.
Instead of traditional scripted choices or fixed dialogue trees, every single suspect is powered by an independent AI backend. They each have a distinct psychological profile, a hidden motive, and an interconnected version of events.
What makes it different:
There is no pre-written culprit. Every single suspect has been meticulously written with genuine motive and physical opportunity. I don't decide who the killer is. The lead detective evaluates your final written accusation, and the case stands or falls based on the logic of your argument.
Walkthroughs are impossible. Because the characters react dynamically to your specific wording and angles of attack, no two playthroughs play out the same way.
Lies are completely free. The suspects will actively deflect, get defensive, or lie straight to your face to protect themselves. They will only break and reveal the real timeline if you corner them with physical evidence.
You’ll hunt through an entire digital dashboard of real case files, including an autopsy report, a detailed police log, and a dynamic evidence locker where new files get emailed to you mid-investigation as suspects panic or slip up.
Play for free:
The free version gives you access to the core evidence and unlimited suspect interrogations. There’s also an optional $10 founding-player tier if you want the full-immersion experience, which unlocks in-character emails from the lead detective actively rating your performance as you play.
Check it out here: thedayshedied.com
I'll be hanging out in the comments! I’d love to know which suspect you end up cornering, who you ultimately decide to arrest, and whether your case actually holds up under Detective Elias's scrutiny.

DetectiveGPT - I made a free browser detective game where you can interrogate suspects in natural language

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I made DetectiveGPT, a free browser detective game where you solve cases through natural-language investigation instead of fixed dialogue choices.

Each case has a fixed culprit, motive, timeline, clue list, and solution, but you can investigate by typing questions like:

- inspect the pot
- question the stage manager about the blackout
- check the microphone logs
- compare everyone’s timeline

New clues get added to your case board, wrong accusations can fail a case, and solved cases get a detective grade.

I’m looking for feedback on whether the cases feel fair and whether the AI answers stay consistent.

Play free in browser: https://kkkkkom.itch.io/detectivegpt

If you try one, start with “The Orchid Window.” I’d love to know what question you asked first.

NEGOTIATOR is a choice-driven interactive real text messaging style fiction game where you play the role of a crisis negotiation specialist.

2 Upvotes

You are Felix. Crisis negotiator. Nine years on the job.

Before each case, Chief Hayes briefs you:

  • who's on the other end of the line,
  • what happened,
  • what they want.

Then the first message arrives on your device.

The whole case plays out in RCS/SMS text messages:

  • typing indicators,
  • delivered and read receipts,
  • a channel that can drop from secure to plain SMS mid-crisis.

You choose what to write as answers. No menus over artwork: just a screen full of messages, the way a real exchange would feel.

Each case is one continuous conversation:

  • there's no save button,
  • when it ends, it ends, one of the multiple ends,
  • how you get to an end is something the game watches throughout, without ever showing you a meter, you never see a score during play, but you can assess your skills after each end.

Free to play on iOS/iPadOS/MacOS/Android.

Note: Looking forward to receive your feedback for to improve this game, I'm solo, helped only by some smart tools...

Built a superhero management RPG in Twine (SugarCube) – Looking for gameplay feedback

2 Upvotes

I've spent the last months turning a small Twine prototype into a story-driven superhero management RPG.

I finally released the first public demo of G.A.L.A.C.T.I.C.A.L.

It's built with Twine (SugarCube 2), but I wanted to push the engine far beyond traditional interactive fiction by adding RPG mechanics, squad management, boss battles, branching storylines and persistent character systems.

Instead of playing the superhero, you become the "Handler" responsible for managing a team of unstable superhumans working for a powerful corporation.

Your job isn't just winning battles.

You recruit heroes, handle PR disasters, decide who receives dangerous experimental treatments, keep your team mentally stable, investigate Aether-related incidents, and sometimes choose between protecting civilians... or protecting the company.

Current Demo:

* Story Arc 1–4

* Multiple recruitable heroes

* Boss battles

* Hero loyalty, trauma and corruption systems

* HQ management

* Side missions

* Branching choices

* English & German language support

I'm mainly looking for feedback on:

* Gameplay flow

* UI and readability

* Combat feel

* Story pacing

* Difficulty balancing

* Bugs or technical issues

* Anything that felt confusing or unintuitive

This is the first public demo, so every comment—positive or critical—helps improve the game.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Just a regular office worker in UB and I made a small horror game. Would love your thoughts.

1 Upvotes

Hey all,

Greetings from Mongolia!

Like most late millennial and early Gen Z kids in Mongolia, I grew up loving horror stories. My older brother used to tell me a ton of scary stories when I was younger, and honestly most of them were completely made up, but they stuck with me for a long time.

Anyway, I'm just a regular guy. Office worker. And recently I wanted to do something with my time other than work, binge Netflix, and grind Dota 2 and CS. Since I've always been a horror fan, I figured I'd try making a horror game.

I have zero developer background. But with some help from Claude on the coding side, I managed to actually build it, and I put a lot of myself into everything else, because I really wanted it to feel like mine and not just some generic AI thing.

And it finally got approved by Reddit and launched today. It's an early version, still rough in places, but it would honestly mean a lot if you gave it a try and told me what you think. I have a lot more ideas for it, but before I pour more time in, I want to see how other people feel about it first.

A bit about the game itself. It's called The Long Night, an atmospheric, choice driven horror game. What I really wanted was to give you the feeling of actually standing in the shoes of the person in a horror story. You go through these creepy scenarios from a derelict house on a hill to a stalled train, a storm-battered lighthouse, and a blizzard with no way back., and there's no option to fight your way out. You can only hide, run, and make the right choices to survive the night.

If you check it out, I'd love to hear what worked out, what felt off, anything. Thanks for reading, and I hope I can make a good passion project out of it.

BOOK TO VISUAL NOVEL (WITH BYOK AI)

1 Upvotes

Game, that convert any book to gamebook BOOK TO GAME on itch.io https://gelfer1979.itch.io/book-to-game Please, try, and say, what you think about it. My idea, a next step of using ai - not just demand from ai, to create something pre-defined, but generate something otomatically from any content... Next step - visual novel, with AI createt pictures of heros, story, and so-on from any book. My idea - universality- any book, any language (almost), almost any platform...

I think to create project, that create visual novel with choices from any book. Idea: llm (gemini) make a summarization of book (max 20000 symbols). from it it will create json, that contains world-overview, chapters, main hero, nps and so on. It's create images of characters and hero (2x6=12 images). there is a matrix of 20x11 sprites. from them - 5 nps, others is background. 1 nps is a key NPS, that allow exit from level. she send to another NPS's, that speaks with you (3-5 choices). Each choice give you a pass- or you help to nps, or pay with resourse, or other way. It's affects your reputation and flag. if you get 2 flag from three, you pass from key nps, if not -you fail. there is NPS, that significaly change you reputation (5th), but not have flag. 3 parameters- key nps flag (boolean), reputation and resource - significally affects on next chapter. story contains 3-10 chapters and more (you may chioce on novell creation). Also Ai create unical background (open book with unical cover, envirowment and pages). next project - maybe convert visual novel to jrpg with battles addition.

What are your thoughts on integrating generative AI directly into the application? Beyond just 'vibe coding' the development process, the project itself will use AI internally to generate text and images. How well will users accept the requirement to provide their own Gmail credentials or Gemini API key within the program?

I’m testing an AI story game where the characters remember your bad excuses

The goal is to make text adventures feel less like a fixed menu and more like a chaotic tabletop session where the NPCs actually listen.

Question for this sub:
Would you rather play an AI story game that is more serious and immersive, or one that allows more comedy, mistakes, and unexpected character reactions?

I made a free strategy RPG that runs inside ChatGPT by uploading a game archive

1 Upvotes

Disclosure: I’m the creator.

I made a free prototype of a strategy RPG that runs inside ChatGPT.

It is not a normal app and not just a single prompt. The player uploads a structured game archive into a fresh chat, sends the launch prompt, and ChatGPT becomes the scenario controller, rules interpreter, world-state keeper, and in-game advisor.

The game is called MaOS — Master of Operational Settlement.

In my latest test run, the game opened with a settlement under pressure: a damaged dome seam, a fragile pump, dirty filters, limited resources, tired technicians, and a closing weather window. The player had to choose what to protect first: people, infrastructure, exploration, or long-term autonomy.

What I liked was that ChatGPT did not simply reward every “reasonable” order. Repairing one risk created time pressure elsewhere. Sending scouts produced partial information, not instant success. Resting people stabilized the crew, but left technical problems unresolved.

So the game didn't feel like “tell me a story”, but like a structured AI-run campaign with state, risk clocks, resource ledgers, and consequences.

I’m looking for feedback from people who play or build ChatGPT games:

  • Is uploading a game archive a usable format?
  • Would you trust ChatGPT to maintain state if the rules are supplied in files?
  • Is this kind of resource/risk ledger fun, or too heavy?
  • What would make the first 5 minutes clearer?

You're a hopeless romantic who's never quite found the right person. Living with your best friend and roommate, you've grown comfortable in your shared life of late-night conversations and comfortable silences. One evening, you describe your perfect partner in vivid detail, never suspecting that your roommate harbors two secrets: they're a shapeshifter, and they're deeply in love with you. When a mysterious stranger matching your description appears the next day, you're swept into an intoxicating romance—unaware that the person you're falling for has been by your side all along.

Looking for test users

3 Upvotes

Hey folks - I'm at a startup working on AI-powered interactive fiction. The framework we're building should fix a lot of the issues folks in this community have already identified (inconsistency, lack of rules, etc.), and we're looking to soft launch later this year. We've inverted the traditional model for AI fiction by using worlds and characters written by humans, with a slim AI layer for player interaction over that world.

We're currently in a closed-beta phase for friends and family and have been receiving good feedback, but mostly from people who are unfamiliar with interactive fiction or RPGs. I'm reaching out to this community to see if anyone is interested in giving us feedback on this closed-beta phase, or helping us build more worlds. Also just gauging general interest with this crowd for this kind of tool!

Let me know if you have any questions

I asked my AI suspect what the crime scene smelled like. It wasn't in any script I wrote.

0 Upvotes

https://reddit.com/link/1ucw7b0/video/aoug05zfaw8h1/player

I opened a fresh interrogation at the crime scene and asked something that wasn't in any case file I wrote. Nothing about smells, nothing about the air in that room. The AI filled it in from context alone - "old pennies mixed with something bitter." That's blood and something chemical. It reasoned that out by itself.

Could a first-person visual-novel movie work as a lightweight interactive story game?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m experimenting with a first-person VN-style interactive story format: short cinematic scenes, dialogue UI, and eventually branching choices.

This clip is only an AI-assisted concept mockup, not a playable demo yet. I’m using it to test whether the format feels interesting before building a real prototype.

Would this feel more interesting as a ChatGPT-style interactive story, a web VN, or a short episodic video series?

Would you listen to alternate history stories where you can make choices by voice?

2 Upvotes

I've been thinking about an idea and wanted to ask you guys, here what you genuinely think of it.

Imagine an alternate history audio story, kind of like an audiobook or podcast, but at key moments you can make choices by speaking out loud. Then you explore those alternative paths of history and discuss it with narrator.

For example:

• You are Napoleon after the failed Russian campaign. Do you retreat, negotiate, or gamble everything on one last campaign?

You are a general during the American Civil War. Do you push for a risky attack, delay for reinforcements, or try to change the political outcome of the war?

The story would ask you what you want to do, you answer by voice, and then the audio continues based on your choice.

The idea is that it stays audio-first, so you could listen while walking, driving, cooking, or relaxing, without needing to look at a screen and explore different paths.

Would that be interesting to people who enjoy alternate history? Or do you prefer alternate history to be more fixed, discussion based and author-driven?

Curious what do you think. I have a project I am working on.

Help with Bigger campaign Consistency

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a way to play a long term text RPG with ChatGPT while keeping the story, characters, worldbuilding, relationships, locations, and lore consistent over a very long period of time.

I already have an Obsidian vault with roughly 300 pages, and it’s still growing. The vault contains character sheets, world lore, locations, factions, timelines, magic systems, and story notes.

What I’m trying to achieve:
ChatGPT should be able to use the vault as a knowledge base.
Changes I make in Obsidian should be available without having to manually upload hundreds of files every session.
The AI should be able to reference existing information and remain consistent across long RPG campaigns.
The system should continue to work as the vault grows.

I’m fine with using plugins or running tools locally on my PC.

I haven’t worked with APIs before, but if that’s the best option, I’m willing to give it a shot. I’m mainly looking for something that’s reasonably easy to set up and keep running.

Has anyone built something similar?

What setup would you recommend for using an Obsidian vault as the source of truth while ChatGPT acts as a long term RPG/Game Master?

Thanks!

Finally launched my text adventure app on the play store

Thumbnail

Just sharing a proud moment as I finally shipped in open tests my ai powered solo adventure app in the play store.

If anyone likes solo roleplay games or 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books you can try it!

It is called Everwhere.app and basically it does:

- play short adventures in ten universes from DnD to Cthulhu with custom rules and randomness dice rolls

- 'infinite' feed of user created scenarios recommended based on your actual play style and preferences

- scenarios and characters creation assisted by a team of AI agents

- build your library and share your creations with anyone

It uses various agentic workflows sdk's to power the game engine and the content creation.

I started this side project 1.5 years ago after playing Cthulhu scenarios with ChatGPT and being pleasantly surprised by the quality of the output.

I'd really appreciate any constructive feedback on it!

Cheers.
