AI Alternatives Best uncensored AI image generators + AI Girlfriend ranked by what theyāre ACTUALLY good at (July 2026 )
Iāve been testing a bunch of AI image generators and roleplay tools over the past year. Some were overhyped, some were annoying to set up, and a few were actually useful enough that I kept coming back to them.
This is not a ādefinitive ranking,ā just my current working list based on what felt practical to use. I grouped them into top, middle, and niche picks, with two platforms in each group.
First picks
1. Mage
Mage is probably the easiest one to recommend if you mainly care about image generation.
Itās simple, fast, and you donāt need to spend half a day setting up ComfyUI or hunting for the right workflow. Mango 2 has been good for more realistic images, while Guava Pro feels better when I want to generate a larger batch without waiting forever.
The main reason I put it first is that it does one thing well: image generation without too much friction.
Downside: the better models are locked behind higher paid tiers, so the free/cheap experience is not really the full experience.
Best for: people who want quick uncensored image generation without dealing with local setup.
2. Eternal AI
Eternal AI is the one iād put second, mostly because itās trying to combine two things that are usually separate: AI roleplay and image generation.
The useful part is that you can chat with a character and generate images around that same character and context, instead of jumping between a chatbot and a separate image tool. It also has a pretty big character library, AI girlfriend or AI boyfriend style chats, multilingual support, image/video generation, voice, memory, and apps on web, iOS, and Android.
It feels more like an entertainment platform than a pure image model, which can be good or bad depending on what you want.
The catch is that youāre mostly working with pre-built characters. If you want full model-level control or custom LoRAs, this is not the tool for that.
Best for: people who want roleplay + images in one place, not people who want to fine-tune everything.
Middle picks
3. Stable Diffusion 3.5 Large
Still one of the best options if you care about control.
Running things locally gives you way more flexibility: custom checkpoints, LoRAs, ControlNet-style workflows, prompt tweaking, and fewer platform restrictions depending on your setup.
But itās also the opposite of beginner-friendly. You need the hardware, you need patience, and you need to be okay with troubleshooting random errors at 1am.
Best for: people with a decent GPU who want full control and donāt mind setup pain.
4. Chroma V1 HD
Chroma is interesting if youāre already in the Flux or local model ecosystem and want something more permissive.
The outputs can look really good, especially lighting and detail. It feels less restrictive than a lot of hosted Flux tools, which is the main reason itās worth mentioning.
That said, itās still more of a local-workflow pick. The community and resources around it are smaller than Stable Diffusion, so itās not where Iād tell a beginner to start.
Best for: Flux users who want fewer restrictions and donāt mind a smaller ecosystem.
Niche picks
5. Pony Diffusion V6 XL
Pony is not new anymore, but it still has a place. Itās especially strong for furry art, anime-style generations, and booru-tag prompting. The ecosystem around it is huge, especially when you factor in all the LoRAs and community examples.
The downside is that it feels a bit older compared with newer anime/image models, and the prompting style can be weird if youāre not used to tags.
Best for: furry, anime, and booru-tag users.
6. CivitAI
CivitAI is not really a generator by itself, but itās still one of the most useful resources if youāre doing local AI image generation.
Itās where I usually look for checkpoints, LoRAs, prompt examples, and workflows. If youāre building a local setup, youāll probably end up there at some point.
The catch is obvious: you still need another tool to actually run the models, and itās smart to save or download anything important because stuff can disappear.
Best for: anyone building or improving a local AI image setup.
