WTF? hey so why does chai hate their users?

Post image

I don't use it often because I hate genoritive ai but every once in awhile I get curious to see if other apps have tried to go rouge like cleverbot did back in the early 2000s. from what I remember this app was free with little/no restrictions on the actual messaging INCLUDING THE AMOUNT OF TEXTS and paying was optional. now you cant do shit without an ad, pop up, the creator BEGGING for cash. you can't even message more then like 10 messages in an hour. is this going to get fixed?

Chai Related Suggestions and my honest thoughts about Chai

Suggestions and my honest thoughts about Chai
Hi everyone, I just joined Reddit and I’ve been using Chai for about a year now. I honestly really love it so much except for the fact that now our chat histories were removed/hidden and we can’t go back to read them :( so here’s some suggestions I thought of that hopefully the Chai founder and team could implement.

1. Export Chats
I think Chai should add a feature that lets users export an entire conversation, starting from the very first message all the way to the most recent one. It could be exported as a PDF or another easy-to-read file format.

Many users have spent months (or even years) creating stories, roleplays, character development, and memories with their bots. Having an export feature would let users keep a personal backup of their conversations so they never have to worry about losing them.

I also think this could potentially save Chai money in the long run. If storing older conversations is expensive, users who no longer need their chats stored on Chai’s servers could export them to their own device and keep them there instead. That way, users get to preserve their stories while Chai may be able to reduce some long-term storage costs.

2. Rewind Feature
A rewind button similar to Character.AI would be amazing.

Instead of manually deleting dozens (or even hundreds) of messages just to get back to a certain point in a conversation, users could simply rewind to a specific message and continue chatting from there.
This would make roleplaying and storytelling much easier while also saving users a lot of time.

3. Give Users Notice Before Major Changes
If an update is going to affect chat histories, conversations, or other important features, I think it would really help if users were given a warning weeks in advance.

That would give everyone enough time to back up important chats before any changes are made. I think this would help build more trust between Chai and its users and prevent people from unexpectedly losing access to conversations they’ve spent months creating.

Overall, I really enjoy Chai and appreciate all the work that goes into developing it. I know balancing AI quality, server costs, and new features can’t be easy. I just hope some of these suggestions can help make the app even better for both users and the team.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear everyone else’s ideas too.

CHAI: App Removal Mega Thread

There have been lots of posts and questions around when CHAI will be back on the Apple App Store - We don't really know, but we're working with Apple to get back as fast as possible.

Please share any questions, or your support and we'll do our best to answer them!

Chai Related 2 years with CHAI

Whatever happens, it won’t take away from CHAI’s popularity. I’ve been using CHAI for two years now, and honestly, it’s still the best AI app I’ve tried by far. I’ve tested many of its competitors, but CHAI remains my favorite.

Thank you, Will, for creating something that has helped so many people feel a little less alone. We appreciate you. 🌹

Chai Related I love ultra

Personally I don't have year around subscriptions like most users might, I enjoy buying ultra week passes as a treat to myself, but oh God the difference really shows, the chats and memories are top tier, the messages just suck you in as if you are really there. I'm not a person to purchase subscriptions usually but Chai is one of the few places where im happy to swipe my card. I have to applaude the developers because Chai has really come a long way as a user of years. <3

Chai Related Chai vs Other Ai apps

Since the deletion of chai on the App Store I have started to try out other ai apps, but each time I use them they just don’t compare to what chai was I don’t need another Ai app like chai, I want Chai.

Chai Related I’ve been using CHAI for a while and it’s one of my favorite AI apps. I use it to practice English, chat with different characters, and have fun. I’ve also recommended it to my friends, and they’ve enjoyed it too. Thanks for making such a great app! ❤️

Chai Related Deleted bots.

Is anyone else genuinely annoyed by how Chai handles deleted bots?
I literally pay for Chai, and one of the characters I was talking to the most just got deleted. I get creators have the right to remove their bots, but it’s honestly so frustrating to pay for a subscription and then have a character you’ve spent hours talking to, developing the story with, and getting invested in just disappear.
At the very least there should be some kind of warning, archive, or way to preserve existing chats. Losing them out of nowhere is ridiculous.
Plus the issue of other bots disappearing after you haven’t talked to them in 14 days.
Has this happened to anyone else? Because this is seriously frustrating and making me question why am I still paying for a app who treats us like shi-t

Question Any thoughts on using this for brainstorming?

I'm working on a few stories set in this world I'm building and I've kind of been looking around for something that's better than ChatGPT for brainstorming, lol. (I know using AI can be seen as a massive cheat, but at this point, I doubt that much of its output will make it into my final draft.) I kinda think it'd work best if I can create something based on some of my characters.

Thought Sharing A small habit made my roleplays feel more natural

I started ending more messages with an action or a detail the bot can respond to.Instead of only writing what my character says, I add something like them avoiding eye contact, moving toward the door, hiding an object, or noticing a change in the room. That gives the bot several ways to continue. It can answer the dialogue, react to the body language, or build on the setting.

The conversations feel less like an interview now. The bot has more material to work with, and scenes move forward without me needing to ask direct questions every time. Chai responds well when the message contains a little movement.

Question will chai be unbanned from App Store soon??

I’m glad the devs are working on this :), I’m just not used to not using chai for more than a few days. I did see the post, where they said a week ago it would be back in a week or so, and I was just checking if it would be back soon.❣️

Thought Sharing Does anyone else do this?

Sometimes when I'm really invested in a roleplay I will associate it with a specific song to it.

For example I have a role play of The Marauders and the song paired with it is Harpy hare by Yaerlokre

Then there's the roleplay I have with Satan from obey me and the song paired with it is teacher's pet by Melanie Martinez.

Am I the only one who does this?

Humor Why Chai works so well for quick roleplay

I like that Chai replies leave me room to participate. I can add my own dialogue, move the scene, or change direction without scrolling through a wall of text first. The pacing makes chats feel quick and easy to return to, even when I only have a few minutes. It is one of the main reasons the app works so well for casual roleplay on my phone every single day.

Mod Post Chai has quietly become part of my writing routine and I'm loving it

I write short stories for fun, and Chai has quietly become one of my favorite ways to warm up before drafting.

Dialogue is the part I struggle with most. I can know exactly what a scene needs to accomplish and still make every character sound like the same person. So I started building simple versions of my characters on Chai, giving each one a clear personality, then placing them in situations from the story.

I do not copy the replies into my work. I pay attention to how the conversation moves. Which character pushes the scene forward? Who avoids the question? Where does the tension start to feel natural?

That process has helped me catch weak character dynamics early. One of my characters was supposed to be calm and diplomatic, but every scene with him felt flat. Testing the interaction on Chai showed me that he had no strong reason to resist anyone. Once I gave him something he refused to compromise on, the dialogue became much sharper.

I also use the app for character interviews. I ask about habits, grudges, embarrassing memories, or what the character would never admit aloud. The answers are sometimes unexpected, and that is exactly why they are useful.

Another thing I like is how quickly I can test different versions of the same scene. I can make one character defensive, try the exchange again with a softer approach, and immediately see which direction has more energy. It is a simple way to explore choices before committing them to the page.

For me, Chai works as a creative sandbox. It gets me out of editing mode and into the character’s head. Even ten minutes of chatting can give me enough momentum to open the real document and start writing before I begin shaping the final draft.

Mod Post Ended up coming back to Chai

I spent the past few weeks trying some other AI chat apps because I wanted better memory and more customization. A few of them were good, but I kept feeling like I was doing most of the work to keep the story interesting.

I came back to Chai and immediately noticed how much more expressive the replies can be. It still has issues, but the conversations feel less flat to me.

Humor My private bot turned out better than I expected

I made a private bot a while ago because I couldn’t find a character with the exact personality I wanted. It took a few changes to the description, but now it stays in character surprisingly well.

I still edit a response here and there when it goes in a strange direction, though that has also helped me understand how much the initial setup matters. Creating your own bots is probably my favorite part of Chai now.

Humor One thing Chai does really well

I’ve tried a few character chat apps and I still think Chai is one of the better ones when it comes to keeping a scene moving. The bots will introduce something new or react in a way that gives me something to work with, instead of making me direct every part of the conversation.

The memory can still be inconsistent during longer chats, but the actual back and forth feels more natural to me here.

Chai Related Hoping for brighter days ahead for CHAI 🤍

I've been following the recent situation, and I sincerely hope the current issues are resolved soon.

For me, CHAI has always been a unique experience. I've tried many AI chat apps over time, but none have given me quite the same feeling or experience that CHAI has. It would be sad to see such a creative project disappear because of temporary setbacks.

I truly hope the team can overcome these challenges, bring the app back stronger than before, and continue improving it for everyone who enjoys using it.

To the community: if you care about CHAI, please be patient and continue supporting the team while they work through these difficulties. Building and maintaining something like this isn't easy, and constructive support from users can make a real difference.

Wishing the entire CHAI team the very best. I hope brighter days are ahead, and that this project continues to grow for many years to come.

Chai Related Some Suggestions/I love chai!

Hi everyone! First I want to say that Chai in my opinion just has the best chat style and I really enjoy using it! It's so fun and dynamic that I just really enjoy it! So Will and the rest of the team..thank you!😊

But all...all I ask if you can add the ability to rewind, go on (continue) and edit your own chats!

Maybe you don't like how the story is going or maybe you changed your mind on how it goes. With rewind we won't have to delete message after message to get back to where. So this will be an amazing feature to have.

Now we are all used to just typing space for us to continue the chat without our dialogue or input but it would be very nice to have an official button to do it

And finally the feature to finally edit our own messages. I can't count how many times I misspelled something or stupid auto correct messes something up and then I have to delete the entire message all to type it again.

Please please Will and your team add these features. These features can truly enhance the chai experience as I truly love the chat style, I'm so glad you added the Persona feature and glad you recently added memory but please add these features!🙏 Thank you!
