Would really appreciate some advice on our Honduras itinerary below! We're backpackers and this is part of a larger trip so keen to keep costs down but have also had a lot of warnings on safety so would love to hear how recent travellers have got around? Do we need to take shuttles or is public transport an option? Any recommendation on transport companies would also be appreciated. Thank you!

Hiii! I'm looking for recos for my trip in february in Guatemala! 🇬🇹

I'm going for about 10-11 days.

My last trip was in Costa Rica and I fell in looooove with the country.

Some questions I have :

I'm seeing these popular cities, doesnt seem like I can do all of them in 10 days ahha :
Antigua (for sure doing + volcano hike)
Lake Atiltan
Semuc
Flores
El Paredon

What I loved in CR : Hiking, nature, beach / tropical / surf.

I'd def love to get some of that in Guatemala.
Also, ruines and history in Flores looks amazing, but I'm not sure it's realistic to do all that driving.

Another question : better to rent a car or shuttle? Considering we will probably do 3-4 cities in total?

Anything other recos (hostel, airbnb, restaurants, etc) are welcome! 🇬🇹

Traveling solo (28F) 9 days July 24th- Aug3rd. I plan on booking almost nothing in advance unless there is something recommend to be booked in adv.

DAY 1: Land in Guatemala City around ~2pm, uber to Antigua

DAY 2: Explore Antigua, acclimatize. Book volcano tour for next day.

What should I do specifically in Antigua?

DAYS 3&4: Hike & Overnight Fuego Volcan Acatenango thru OX, travel to Lake Atitilan

DAYS 5&6: Explore Lake Atitilan, chill rest days. What specifically should I do? Looking at less-touristy areas to stay, I really want to enjoy local Guatemalan cuisine. Leaning towards San Juan la Laguna or Santa Cruz based off some quick research. 2 days too much/enough for the Lake and surrounding areas?

Help me decide!!

OPTION 1.

DAYS 7,8&9: Fly to Flores, explore Tikal and surrounding areas. Fly to GC & then home on day 9. Where to stay here? Any specific must-sees?

OPTION 2.

DAYS 7,8&9: From Atitilan (not sure if this is the best route) to the coast, surf in El Paredon. Beginner surfer. Not sure what else specifically to do at the coast?

I don't think I have enough time for Tikal/surrounding areas AND the coast.

Things I'm interested in: nature, diving, hikes, flora/fauna, chill time, beaches, surfing, socializing, local food/culture tours, caves etc

We are travelling to Guatemala in early October and understand that it is the tail end of the rainy season. We would be looking at doing the Acatenango hike sometime between October 5 and October 10.

Our current itinerary is:

• 2 nights in Tikal/Flores
• 4 nights in Lake Atitlán
• 3 nights in Antigua
• 1 final night in Guatemala City before our flight

If we decide to include Acatenango, I will probably need to either move one night from Atitlán to Antigua or potentially skip Tikal altogether.

In addition to Acatenango, we would also like to spend time in Antigua itself — relaxing, enjoying the food scene, visiting coffee farms, and generally taking things at a slower pace.

My dilemma is whether it is worth gambling on weather conditions and scheduling extra time in Antigua specifically for the Acatenango hike (or perhaps a 4x4 trip if the hike conditions are poor). For those who have visited in early October:

• How likely is it to get decent volcano eruption views after dark during that time of year?
• Is it worth building flexibility into the itinerary for Acatenango, or would you prioritize keeping the current split between Tikal, Atitlán, and Antigua?
• If you have done Acatenango in October, how was your experience?

My boyfriend and me want to do a 3 weeks trip from Nicaragua to Guatemala next year with one motorcycle. We would arrive from Europe by plane and want to either buy or rent one (depending on which option is smarter) and I wanted to ask if any of you guys can give us tips on that. Does anyone have experience? is it even smart to cross the border with a motorcycle, is it possible to rent in one country and give it back in another, is buying and selling a motorcycle easy ? Any recs are appreciated. fyi - I speak Spanish but we both look like the biggest Gringos ;)

Hi, Need some advise for our upcoming trip- we are landing at 12pm in Belize City and want to do ATM (probably next day) and then go to San Pedro the same day.

1. Is it possible to be able to catch the last flight or ferry or would it be too tight?
2. What transportation is the best (renting a car for self-drive, arrange transfers, or hire a car and driver for 2 days). We will have luggage with us and are conscious on where to store while in ATM (want to avoid going back to hotel to pick it as that would take time).

I am currently planning a 4 week trip to Guatemala followed by El Salvador for January and I have a bit of a dilemma over my route that I’m hoping someone may have some helpful advice on.

I’m flying into Guatemala City and going straight to Antigua for 4 nights which is already booked. I also plan on doing about 7-9 days on lake Atitlan doing Spanish school/exploring/relaxing.

For the remainder of my time in Guatemala, I’m torn between the following routes:

Antiqua - Semuc Champey - Lake Atitlan - cross boarder to Santa Ana, El Salvador

Antigua - Lake Atitlan - El Paredon - cross boarder to Santa Ana, El Salvador

As much as Semuc Champey intrigues me more than El Paredon, the idea of 10 hour $40 bumpy journey each way (and therefore losing 2 days to travel) is a little off putting, especially as I’m not doing Flores so it’s not like I have anything else drawing me in that direction.

I’m therefore unsure whether to just skip SC and go to el Paredon seeing as it’s kind of on the way to El Salvador and I could hopefully get a shuttle across the boarder from there rather than having to go back to Antigua.

Please could anyone who has solo travelled Guatemala and done these places let me know their thoughts on which is the best route/whether SC is worth it or if it’s overrated for the faf it takes to get there?

Here are some things to do in Guatemala City:

🏛️ Mayan Museum (Zone 13)

🏙️ Historic Center

• National Palace of Culture

• Metropolitan Cathedral

• Central Market

• Lunch at Los Tres Tiempos, a rooftop restaurant with great views of the city.

(All in Zone 1)

☕ Cayalá (Zone 16)

🛒 Oakland Mall (Zone 10)

This itinerary offers a good mix of history, culture, local food, and modern Guatemala.

I've done this trip several times, and it works well as a full-day Itinerary.

The zoo is also worth visiting, but I'd save it for another day since most people spend around 3–4 hours there.
