Here we are trying to figure out what to do with the slide and having our heavier cats tested out

Trying to make a nice place. Fingers crossed it goes well.

This was the litter mat for one of my litter boxes, until my little gray boy decided that he would rather use it as some sort of tunnel/plaything. I fought the inevitable for a few days, trying to figure out how to make it less attractive to him. After about 5 days and no progress, I bought a different litter mat, hosed that one off and now its a cat tunnel. Fuq it.

I am 23 and getting my first cat soon. I want to know what needs to be done to cat proof the apartment. I keep getting different answers on google. I have a portable air conditioner that has a big hose thing that goes out to the window. It’s sealed off so the cat wouldn’t be able to get out but it kinda looks like a cat tunnel. Any idea on how to cat proof it?

Boyfriend asked if this is okay for his kitten, in my opinion this is more for adult cats but I don’t really have experience with cats. Seeking advice

a compilation from my catified living room

So I have a large boi, generally sits between 14-15lbs & takes up my entire torso. His name is Oliver Grey or Oliver-baballiver-fe-fi-fofallivr.

Our pantry has a dropped ceiling (pic included, ~8' wall height), and I am trying to figure out how to make cat shelves that will enable Oli to get up there.

I like the idea of doing French cleats for the shelving, that way I can rearrange the shelving and make a new route for him w/o putting new holes in the wall but... I mean its a 14.8 lb cat jumping down on it and I'm worried he'll be too heavy or that the cleat will slip if he lands on the outer edge of the shelf.

I was curious if anyone had any recommendations for how to build cat shelves for heavier cats beyond making sure everything is attached to the studs. I should also mention that this is a manufactured home.

Fostering 3 kittens means I have 6 total. I had an ordering frenzy and these came! I am so happy to see these nerds living the good life. Two more pieces have been installed in the main room.

We moved into an unfurnished student apartment across the globe in Helsinki recently, and wanted something for our little buddy Miso to climb on. I saw a picture of something similar to this online and decided to try and make my own, using dead pine wood from the forest floor, a drill we borrowed from the library and some plywood. We had some spare shelf pieces that we used for the base.

Materials:

• pine branches (free)
• the longest screws I could find (200cm) plus some other assorted sizes (<5€)
• plywood (a spare shelf piece as the base, then one 10€ piece that I cut into platforms)
• an old rug from a free pile and some fabric from a thrift store (pretty cheap)
• cheap hand saw (10€), drill borrowed from library, sandpaper

First, we went for a walk in the woods and found some nice gnarly pine branches that had fallen in recent storms. It's a bit unethical (and I think illegal in Finland) to take dead wood from the forest, but it was a small amount anyways. I bought a cheap hand saw that we used to take off the piece we were looking for. Pic 3 is us in the forest trying out some possible structural combinations, then pic 4 is us at home trying to assemble it.

Assembling it ended up being super frustrating without any clamps to hold things together while drilling, but I made it work in the end. The main structure comes from drilling the really long screws up from below the base platform into the base of the wood. Cutting the wood bases to be flat and sit at the right angle with just a hand saw was also really difficult. Pic 5 shows the first draft of this, then I trimmed off the excess branches and connected them to each other more with some screws.

Finally, I cut up and sanded some plywood (this time using a vice at the library to get the right angles) and attached the platforms. I put some old ratty carpet I found in a free pile on top, then "upholstered" with some thrift store fabric.

So happy that Miso likes it! He especially loved when we moved it to the window. I hope this guide is useful for others!

I’ve brought loads of bits to make a cat wall in my living room, I just have no idea if the placement is the best it can be?? (Zero DIY experience, making it up as I go along!) I know enough to attach them to studs but I feel like the placement can better??

Pics are all the pieces I have (hopefully you can work out what is what on the plan) I have no idea where to put the mats… I’m thinking maybe on the wall by the vertical climbing rope? I just don’t know! Also there are 2 of the grey sets.

Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

This is my guy standing at the door to the enclosed porch, which is his favorite place in the world. Sometimes he gets so mad if I don't let him out that he won't eat his breakfast.

As you can see, this is a glass door. To the right of it is a matching full-length window that doesn't open or close, it's just a glass wall. To the left is a strip of wall, just wide enough for a stack of storage bins, turned the narrow way. The rest of the wall facing the porch is kitchen cabinets, dishwasher, sink, etc.

I'm trying to come up with a way to give the cats porch access that doesn't involve leaving the door standing open. Now that it's getting warmer that will really ramp up our AC use (and potentially let bugs in). Plus I'd like for them to be able to go out even when I'm not home.

Any ideas?

Hey! I’d like to build some more shelves for my cats. They already have a large scratching post and an extra shelf above it. I’d like their shelves to extend further, and I’ve even bought the accessories already, BUT!

I want to install a set of three shelves above the TV—two of them for me, and the third one for the cats as part of their higway.

I’d like the entrance to the top shelf not to go through the shelf that’s already hanging on the wall, because they love sleep on it and I want to keep it as a sleeping spot. So, I need help figuring out how to create a second entrance on the same side? Should I shorten the shelves and add a step? Or make steps out of my own shelves?

putting together plans to build a catio this summer, but not sure what to use on the platforms where kitties will be lounging.

it will be constructed of cedar, with cedar fence pickets used as the horizontal platforms. but would love to add somethings more comfortable for them to lounge on.

but what would be able to handle exposure to the elements?

would like to stick with natural fibers, but they would likely not last long, and would need to dry quickly to prevent mold. maybe removable hammocks made of old towels, so they could be periodically washed?

maybe waxed canvas? i've got some nice heavy stuff for other projects. would still probably need replacing every couple years.

any ideas, fellow Catifiers?

I really want to get a cat box for our windows, but i can’t seem to find one that actually fits our windows (“horizontal window” in second pic). the only ones i can seem to find are boxes that you have to attach to the siding of the house outside, but i’m a renter and can’t just screw something onto the side of my apartment. i’m handy enough that i could possibly make my own, but i’m curious if there’s any pre-made options out there that i’m just not seeing. it must be removable as well, since we get heavy snowfall in the winter and can’t leave it up year round. help!!

I recently moved and have more freedom for catification, and I had the idea to turn this wire shelf into a walkway/tunnel for them. I like the layout of it in the first picture, but I’m not sure if it’s going to be safe because I’m not sure how to mount it. I thought I could zip tie all of the panels together so it’s secure and stable, and then getting some sort of brackets to attach it to the walls and ceiling. I just want to make sure it’s going to be safe for the cats, and also not fall on me while I’m sleeping.

Does anybody have advice or input on securely mounting it? I like the idea of DIYing it, but if it’s risky I’d rather just buy something that I know will be safe.

I’ve fully optimized the sanctuary with a food altar, a flowing hydration fountain, and multi-dimensional wormhole tunnels across the floor. They even have vertical portals to watch the Sonoran night.

​Yet, they still look at me like I’m an amateur landlord who doesn't understand basic feng shui.

​Am I doing this right, or am I just falsely-delivering for these little desert spirits who would honestly prefer a discarded cardboard box? Feedback appreciated.
