Yes, there are so many live performances I could have picked but I picked a fairly recent one, less than five years old.

Off of the terrific album “Celebration Rock.” Some of their songs contain so many of the stereotypical “millennial” hallmarks that they’re almost asking to be parodied by comedians like Kyle Gordon. But I think it’s unique and holds up. An instance of the genre at its best. Wish people talked about this album a bit more as I think it made some pretty big waves in the indie space when it came out.

Has anyone listened to the Big in Canada podcast? I was really excited to find a podcast about Canadian music, but I’m a few episodes in and it feels like the hosts spend more time shitting on Canadian artists than actually celebrating them.

They also seem too young to have been around for the heyday of some of these bands, as a lot of their opinions seem to be based on Google searches rather than actual lived experiences of going to see them perform.

I love the idea of a podcast focused on Canadian music, so I’m wondering if it gets any better before I commit more time to listening.

I personally love Rush.All of them are fantastic musicians and I love the albums Moving Pictures and Subdivisions the most.They have other albums I like too but these two are my favorite albums from them.

Which Canadian Rock band do you like the most?

I love her albums The Woman In Me and Come On Over and the sales were really massive.She was huge in the 1990's thanks to the success of these two albums.But honestly, I can't name many big country artists from Canada apart from Shania, so how big was country music there?

Country music is huge in the USA and there are so many big names in the US.

The song Walkerton, Workforce, and the Wusses Who Watched by Bombs Over Providence ends with a clip saying (as far as I can make out)

"...far from the slums. Nice homes, very respectable. And nice kids, well clothed, no slum kids here. But beneath the surface, trouble, plenty of it."

Does anyone know where this clip is from? I'm assuming a documentary or news clip, probably related to the Walketon water crisis or Ontario education, probably from around 2001/2002

I saw her live and had fun.

I met her and she was great.She was super kind, friendly and down to earth.Sweet lady, great sense of humor.

I've been a cohen fan for years, discovered him after he died, though. This is just absolutely wonderful, i've seen clips of his son Adam singing and he is a talented guy. he has this notable performance with lana del rey where they sing Chelsea Hotel no. 2 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT9l9MZ5rio ) and it's wonderful, so when they say "special guests" i really do expect the best.

I hope they do a good job advertising this tour, so far it's just on their instagram, because i think there are so many more young fans (early 20s) than they think, and we're all gonna do our best to pop out!

Back in those days CKLW was the King and I listened to many great Guess Who tunes, of course I heard their top hits, but I love to revisit their other stuff like this.

Did they ever record anything??? I used to see them at Lees Palace on Sundays. Their music was unique at the time. Would love to hear some of their tunes again.

Great Tune from Canada 50 plus years ago.

I'm looking for a folkpunk band from Montréal or the greater mtl region who has a similar sound to both Tintamarre and Les Chiens de Ruelle their name was a weird spelling of "Corps qui Cracque" which translates to cracking body. If that rings a bell to anyone lemme know

I would easily put Big Wreck in the top 10 Canadian rock bands of all time, even top 5 for me personally. One of those bands that should've been big worldwide. Something about their music has such a vibe to it, and Ian's vocals are absolutely insane along with his guitar playing. He doesn't show it off as much in the studio but his live solos are insane. Such a good band.

I recently bought a Loverboy Greatest Hits album, which features The Real Thing off of their 2007 album Just Getting Started. It’s a great song and I’d love to know the lyrics, but every lyric website instead gives the lyrics to Rush’s The Spirit of Radio. Hopefully someone can help me out, or direct me to a better sub! Twenty years may seem like a long time in a person’s life, yet it can fly by quickly, as those who have lived on this earth for more than a few decades can attest too. That’s how long it’s been since I last checked in with Sherwood Park‘s prodigal musical sons The Disturbers. Much time has passed since that first interview, but the Alberta band has kept the “nouveaux classic rock” fires burning loud and proud. Through various group iterations and personal and musical adversities, The Disturbers are still here rocking and rolling. Now with a couple new exceptional music tracks posted up on their website and YouTube page, the band is looking forward to seeing a brand new full-length album released.  

“Darren and I have talked about putting together a full new album, and to our surprise now we have it nearly completed…so stay tuned for that,” said Bruce Cline, lead singer of the Disturbers. 

“Darren” is Darren Beveridge, longtime guitarist and backing vocalist for The Disturbers. These days Bruce Cline and Darren Beveridge are technically the only official members of the band, currently keeping the legacy going after all these years. 

“The vast majority of The Disturbers catalog, including our 2014 release Retirement Plan, in the past was written by Bruce and I, so we two in essence have recently kept the band alive in the shadows, tweaking and writing here and there when we could,” said Beveridge. “Historically, just the two of us have performed together as The Disturbers live on several occasions, including a small tour in Hawaii,” he explained. 

 If the new album is anything like the two new single releases the duo recently put out online, then fans and listeners alike will be in for a treat. The first cut “Settlers” is a deeply emotional and resonating track, that explores drug addiction, specifically how it affects relationships. 

”The ‘Settlers’ song was inspired by a friend who had a tumultuous marriage to a woman who had an opiate addiction, and it ultimately took her,” said Cline.

“So in the end it was about ‘settling’ for a life, rather than living it,” Beveridge added. 

The second track is a countryfied roots rocker titled “It’s Coming For Me.” It has a “Blaze of Glory” outlaw style vibe, yet more contemporary. With each subsequent replay, the track becomes weightier, and progressively more prominent.

“Coming For me’ ended up being a little more ‘country’ than I planned, but it worked out,” said Cline of the haunting country rocker. “An old fella at a veteran home said to me, ‘I don’t know when, but he’s coming for me,’ and I thought it was a good line and used a version of it for the song.”

As with Cline, Beveridge too is enjoying the new songs, but he realizes the music industry today is a lot different from when the group started. From the shift from physical albums to digital releases, to the complete change in distribution channels, music now is released and consumed very differently than what it was 20 years ago.

“I like our newest material quite a bit, but it’s not exactly the best time to be an original artist band in the world, for guys that aren’t each 25 years old and cranking out Tik Tok mini songs,” said Beveridge. “Maybe with this new stuff being released, we will find it makes it further out into the wild.”

So what’s in store for the band in the future? The duo is focusing mainly now on writing and recording, but a tour or some shows could be possible down the road. 

“I will continue to write songs based on the law of averages method: write enough of them, and one will be a good one,” said Cline. 

“I think we are going to keep putting new stuff out until we can’t,“ added Beveridge. 

 As for a tour…

“As far as touring or shows; we will see. I can’t fit into tight pants anymore,” Cline humorously joked. “I don’t have any hair and need reading glasses now.”
