The Citizenship in society merit badge is being removed and replaced with a military merit badge. Scouting America will only recognize gender assigned at birth. Military dependents will have their registration fees waived.

bedwetting on beach camping trip

hi everyone, obviously using a throwaway. im 13, i wet the bed almost every night and i wear goodnites. ive gone on some trips before but the campsites i’ve been to all have toilet facilities. this campout doesnt have any toilets or showers, its literally just a beach. i have 2 friends that know about my bedwetting, and i am sharing a tent with one of them (not the first time).

there’s a small hike to the beach, but how do i take care of my trash? do i just keep it in a bag and throw it later?

According to the scout law... A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent... How many of these laws did a scout break last nite when at camp as they were coming or going, they hit my car, tore the bumper off and left without a note, sorry, or anything. You would think at camp when 100% of the people there are scouts, that would be the last place for a hit and run. Do better scouts.

Seabase food

My son is doing the Coral Reef trip in the Florida Keys next month and I was curious about the menu. What do breakfast, lunch and dinner entail? If you can fit it, in your duffel, can you bring a jar of peanut butter? Thanks!

Reliable place to buy the water purification tablets I used in Philmont?

I don't recall the brand, but we used them in our Nalgene's and it allowed us to bleed our threads.

I just turned 16, everything mentioned was earned when I was 15 or younger. On top of everything in the photo, I also have the national outdoor award for conservation, 50 miler award and the messenger of peace award. I’ve been burnt out ever since I got life at 14. Idk if I should come back.

Camp Winton

Post image
38 Upvotes

Just went back to Camp Winton for the first time in 25 (ish) years, this time as an adult leader.

It was REALLY cool how much hasn't changed at that camp.

One thing that has changed is the trail in. Unfortunately, it seems somewhere between 15 and 20 years ago, they stopped using the awesome trail into camp and started just having people hiking on the road, which was pretty disappointing.

Despite that, it was still an absolutely fantastic experience for Scouts and leaders alike. Would highly recommend the camp for anybody looking for a great camp in the Sierra Nevada's.

I buy storage units from time to time as a side hustle, and this recent one I bought had a smithsonite briefcase type container full of international jamboree Boy Scouts stuff and pamphlets, maps, and all sorts of things from the areas and time. I’m looking to get some more info about it and maybe a sense of potential value, all information is greatly appreciated

Youth transitioning into adult leaders, interaction exception.

18 – 20 Adult Leader/Program Participant Policy

Per this policy, once a Scout turns 18 they have 30 days to register as an adult leader. Once they do so they can no longer hang out 1-1 with their Scouting friends both inside and outside of Scouting. They can no longer be buddies with their friend at Scouting events. Should they be dating a Scout, they would have to terminate the relationship.

What are your opinions of having a 2 year exception to interactions? Allow adult leaders that age out to continue to have interactions with youth that are within 2 years of age under the same rules that apply to the youth.

This would eliminate the potential of an individual to be removed from Scouting for normal interactions with their friends. It may also allow us to retain more youth as adult leaders.

Please, don't reply to just ignore the rules.

Upcoming scout looking for advice

Hello! I have recently become extremely interested in the boy scouts for the first time in my life (I am 16) and I have asked my parents if I can sign up. They have agreed to let me sign up, but I know its a bit late to be joining the scouts. However, this means a lot to me and I really want to do my best to make these last few years left count. Any advice on finding a good troop, what to expect, how to bond with my troop, what I should focus on, what equipment I should get, etc? Thank you guys so much.

Another thing that might be important to say- I am transgender female to male. I know that they allow transgender people in the scouts, but is this something I should bring up to anyone? If so, to who and how should I bring it up?

Question about Eagle Scout Rank Application (2026)

My daughter is filling out her Eagle Scout Rank Application and was unsure about how to answer the following four Yes/No questions:

  • Were you a Cub Scout?
  • Were you a Webelos Scout?
  • Did you earn the Arrow of Light Award?
  • Had you completed fifth grade upon joining?

She joined her Cub Scout Pack as a Webelos Scout in 4th grade. She completed and earned the Arrow of Light rank in 5th grade. She joined Scouts BSA in 8th grade.

On one hand, Webelos is a part of the Cub Scout program, so she was a Cub Scout. On the other hand, she was specifically a Webelos Scout at a time in the program when a distinction was made between Webelos and the earlier ranks. She is uncertain how to answer this question.

I think the answers to all four questions is "Yes", but I couldn't find any guidance online. She (understandably) wants an answer more definitive than, "uh, my dad thinks so."

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who has responded. If anyone can link to instructions for these questions or an explanation of their purpose from a Scouting America source, that would be greatly appreciated.

Troop "Code Of Conduct"?

We would like to do a Code Of Conduct type Troop handbook thing for what is expected when at camp (no electronics, phones, meds locked up, etc) so that parents can know what to expect, and that their kids won't be available except for "X" hours to talk/text their kids.

I've read of others doing this, so would anyone be willing to email me a copy of their troop's so we have an idea for a foundation to start on?

If so, please PM me and I'll PM back my email. Feel free to reply here that you PM me so I know to look for it.

Thank you!

First time camping suggestions

Hey everyone. In a couple of weeks I'm attending my first week long scout camp with my kid. I was in scouts as a kid but I don't think my adult body can function on the same amount of gear and clothing as I did as a kid. Looking for any recommendations from those adults about must have or nice to have things to bring/wear. We are camping in northern WI so warm and humid most likely. Thank you in advance!
