The title says it all. I'm looking for mystery novels with great characters that have awesome twists and are like 200-300 pages long.

so i've thinking of reading a book about history of religions because it is my new existential crisis and i have to feed and form my own thoughts, opinions and views about the world. if you have any recs that would help me a lot since i dont usually read nonfiction and have a hard time finding something that i think i would like or that fits my criteria

...give Chouette by Claire Oshetsky a try! Imagine the Tiny Pregnant Woman survives her pregnancy and raises her bird-child (or Owl Baby in this case). Of course there are world building differences and the books are stylistically different, but I think there's enough thematic overlap to spark interest among Shark Heart fans. Also, there are an amusing number of similarities between the Tiny Pregnant Woman and Tiny (the honest-to-god name of the mother) in Chouette. Really, Chouette is one of my favorite books of the last few years, and I'm excited to find an excuse to promote it to a wider audience. I hope you read it and like it!

I just finished Night Road by Kristin Hannah and am looking for my next book. Before this I read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and both books have left me in a slump. They were absolutely brilliant and I loved them but it took me MONTHS to pick up another book after the nightingale. I finished night road this morning and I don’t want to be in a reading slump for another few months 😭 help.

Yesterday I realized that the worse part of the day without this person is the night, but reading can help to get my mind off a bit from everything. My breakup happened cause my now ed boyfriend had (has) a gambling addiction and I had to set boundaries, cause he got himself into trouble with a debt and hid it from me. It’s been hard cause it’s not that I don’t have feelings still anymore, and it’s been really hard to let go of what ifs or guilt.

I think reading and feeling understood and heard while I do could help, so maybe if anyone knows some books that tackle maybe that sort of grieving a person who’s still there but you shouldn’t be with, grieve of a future that can never be, maybe an exploration of the family or loved ones of someone with this kind of issue, maybe even something about savior complex, cause I’m probably falling into this category without much thought.

I’m looking for fiction but, if someone knows even non-fiction books that can help me during this time, I would greatly appreciate it and thank you if you red till here.

I've no idea when I looked this up on the library website and checked it out, must have been going down a list of recommended books from someone or somewhere. It is not something I normally would have selected but I am weirdly glad I did take it in. It's a great look into autism and ADHD minds wrapped nicely with a compelling romantic novel. I won't give anything away but the twist in this story was 120% not anything I ever would have even started to guess. Being an adult who suffers from both of these, it was both uncomfortable and too close to home for comfort. On a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the best, I'd give it a solid 9.5 because if you go with the audiobook of this like I did, it was read kind of slow. But I increased the reading speed and got through the whole book in a single night's drive.

I’m coming out of a classics binge (James Baldwin, Flannery O’Connor, etc) and really am looking for something fun and cute and definitely some fantasy. unfortunately my standards are way too high as a) ig im used to the classic writing level and b) i can’t stand helpless female protagonists that don’t know how to use their brains. the feminist jn me will be more triggered by that bullshit than being able to enjoy the book.

I'm on a revolutionary reading kick, and I'm thirsty for more. So far I've read Shut It Down: Stories From a Fierce, Loving Resistance, by Lisa Fithian; and Be a Revolution: How Everyday People Are Fighting Oppression and Changing the World - And How You Can Too, by Ijeoma Oluo. I also recently enjoyed How to Survive a Plague: The Inside Story of How Citizens and Science Tamed AIDS, by David France.

My favorite aspect of these books is how they demonstrate exactly how you can participate in and drive grassroots organizing to take big actions and create significant change. I would like to find more books that highlight effective modern resistance movements, especially books that are not only informative, but also instructional.

Please suggest some beginners friendly thriller books or just books

I like the whimsy vibes but I also like morally gray characters, female main characters, rivals to lovers (not really enemies, I don't really like when they stab eachother lol) or friends to lovers not slow burn.

The requests above are optional but there is something I need is a book trilogy or duology that has an actual ending to each book, I need that in order to not feel anxious while reading, it would be very good to have a semi ending, a temporary ending, like "all it's good for now but we're not done" rather than a "we are lost and now the book is gonna end and we're only going to find ourselves on the half of the next book" get what I mean?

I get this is quite specific, but if anyone has anything slightly similar to that, please tell me. I cannot start another book and binge all of the series at once and not be able to do anything else before I finish it. It's not good for me.

I'm getting back into reading. I was an avid reader until college got too busy. I'm looking for some fun, engaging books that I can't easily add to my pit of DNF books; some romance is okay, but not the main plot. I haven't read much in the past three years, so recent books might be a good recommendation. Overall, I like historical fiction, period romances, some sci-fi, and some fantasy.

Some of my favorite books are: The Book Thief, Emma, Man's Search for Meaning, Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby

Some recent reads I actually finished: Remarkably Bright Creatures, Sunrise on the Reaping, The Three-Body Problem (ok)

I always have a main, physical book to read at home/park/etc but I like to have a second book that I read casually on my phone on my commute to and from work, where pulling out a book is too much with how often i’m either standing or transferring.

for example, my last combos were last of the wine by mary renault main/ sunrise on the reaping by suzanne collins 2nd. then priory of the orange tree by Samantha shannon main/song of achilles by madeline miller 2nd. Something that isnt super hard to pick up and start reading where you left off, if that makes sense.

it can be almost any genre, but leaning towards fiction. despite the examples, i’m not huge on sci-fi usually, but would take recs similar!

I’m looking for books or authors that expand more on profiling people and putting manipulation tactics into use. I’m not really interested in books that fall under the self-help genre or books that go into detail about how to combat dark triad personalities. I’m more interested in hidden gems that delve into how people develop these behaviors and think first-hand, as if I wanted to develop these traits within myself. TIA!
