They gonna be losing a lot more now that their hero retired

96

u/modsactfunny 1d ago

For the second time

64

u/Choice-Strike1 1d ago

They were so trash the first time he retired in protest and got so much worse he had to come back. They're cooked for the next generation, hopefully

10

u/modsactfunny 1d ago

But had one of the best front lines in national team history: di Maria, Messi Kun and Higuain...the rest of the tram was stacked too

12

u/Choice-Strike1 1d ago

Those guys would do amazing for their clubs and then come together to stink it up. I remember one season when Higuain scored like 50 goals all season for his club then missed like double digit chances in one game for Argentina to lose

6

u/Odd-Time-2026 18h ago

The 2010 Argentina squad was stacked but they made the mistake of hiring Maradona to manage. His idea of coaching was to put his best players in one starting XI and tell them to go enjoy themselves. That mostly worked until they met Germany who thrashed them 4-0.

He also made controversial decisions like leaving Javier Zanetti out of the squad who while 37 was still good enough to win a treble with Inter Milan in the same year while playing most of their games. That guy could have at least fixed the right side of their defence.

4

u/MadScienzz 8h ago

Think you got Coaching mixed up with Coking

Didn't care who they lost to as long as they lost. I watched with many other people in London. First time I've watched football in a large group. A few white people were hanging but mainly black. We had as much celebration for the Red Card /sending off we did for the final whistle.

It was glorious.

37

u/TheCommonKoala 21h ago

Some of these ignorant Argentina fans just refuse to understand this simple fact. The way they swarm any thread speaking on the racism of Argentina's team/fanbase at this world cup just reinforces why people don't support them

Spain also has an ugly history with racism and soccer

43

u/TheCommonKoala 22h ago

Okay? Argentina was the one with several anti-black racist incidents throughout this year's tournament and the team was caught singing that racist bus song. Choosing to root against Argentina was a very easy decision plus Spain has two prominent black stars.

It’s not about celebrating Spain’s win, it’s about celebrating Argentina‘s loss.

40

u/MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda 22h ago

Yes I know-I understand that but what about your statement changes any of the facts? Argentinian players continued to be racist, carrying on their time honoured tradition of open racism. Filming themselves a few years ago singing Racist songs. Also, I could travel to Spain but Argentina is off limits to me. They have not evolved to even be able to hide their racism-they are knuckle dragging racists of the worst kind.

Argentina is one of the most racist countries on the planet and I applaud their Loss.

That's like asking why we would celebrate Republicans losing the midterms even though both parties have a history of shafting their Black constituents.

3

u/polikuji09 6h ago

I mean as much as I want to have rose tinted glasses Spain just 2 weeks ago had a politician reinforcing the racist France argument.

This year had Spanish fans telling Lamine to go back to Morocco. Also a higher percent of Argentinians are more comfortable living before a neighbor of another race then most European countries (I believe similar to France).

But a lot of the Argentinian players are scumbag racists though.

6

u/SoFla_King 17h ago

It’s more current. Spain has recent history of throwing bananas at black players. Also too many instances of calling black players monkeys and other derogatory things.

9

u/Hi_iAMchrisHansen 1d ago

Facts. Most of us black Americans DON'T care too much about Futbol.

4

u/CheeseDonutCat 21h ago

Most Americans of any colour don't care too much about Futbol if you want to go down that route. There's a reason it's one of the lower down sports in the US after NFL, NBA, MLB. Even probably College Football and NASCAR is watched more than MLS in the US. Obviously there was a big spike in Soccer watching during the World Cup.

6

u/Hi_iAMchrisHansen 21h ago

Facts.

Honestly I only started watching because of what I heard that Senator Celeste say. And then when that iShowSpeed stuff started happening.

2

u/CheeseDonutCat 21h ago

Similar violence happened just a day before the World Cup final in a Rugby match between Argentina versus England (in Argentina).

Rugby competition called Nations Championship for anyone who wants to look it up, but another sport not really watched in the US. This one way less than Soccer/Futbol I would imagine.

2

u/iPufftrees 18h ago

Throughout the South and Midwest, I’d wager even High School football is probably more popular than Futbol.

The worst part is Spain is no more innocent in the shit they pulled. Honestly imo its be worse because they did it of their own accord.

27

u/No-Leopard639 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not remotely into soccer, but I do know most of their fans are racist AF. I mean, its europe. My college professor did her doctorate thesis on racism in FIFA. She was so awesome.

29

u/freetrambopaline 1d ago

Your not wrong I'm European black. Europe is racist, however in Europe our governments actively discourage racism.

9

u/No-Leopard639 1d ago

That's great to hear! Wish ours did too...

5

u/Saphira2002 21h ago

Speak for yourself, I'm Italian :(

5

u/TheOriginalKrampus 23h ago

Depends on the country. Also depends on the racism. When it comes to cheap labor from the global south, "preserving their culture", and anything immigration related, European Nations cat get pretty racist.

I was all over Western Europe the summer of the 2008 Euro Cup and I saw some shit. Especially in the Netherlands. When we boarded a train from Amsterdam to Belgium, immigration cops singled out my PR friend for a "random" drugs search. Then about half an hour into our train ride, more immigration/customs cops went through our train car and searhed every single black passenger. None of the white ones. Even though the white kids all had drugs. The moment the cops left, two white girls in our group pulled out a big bag of weed and started rolling joints.

Edit: Spain won that tourney too. And the streets of Paris erupted in Spain fans from across Latin America and Europe dancing and singing. Was a good day.

3

u/freetrambopaline 23h ago

Weed is legal in the Netherlands. It doesn't excuse how they treated you. That sucks to hear.

I hate to say and please tell me if I'm wrong. I've been to the Netherlands and didn't have a problem. If your American it might of been because of that

4

u/TheOriginalKrampus 23h ago

This was the train from Netherlands to Belgium. Weed was legal in Netherlands, but not Belgium, so they had customs agents searching people traveling out of Netherlands to make sure they're not bringing drugs to places where it's illegal.

They treated me fine. I yelled at the cops who took my friend aside, felt bad for him. But he was clean, shrugged it off, and got to enjoy the rest of our trip. He's doing fine. Last I hear he is a successful immigration attorney.

3

u/freetrambopaline 23h ago

That sucks but it's nice to hear that you shook it off. Europe with all our problems no question about that. Is still one of the most beautiful places in the world rich in history and culture. I hope you enjoyed what you could.

4

u/TheOriginalKrampus 22h ago

Of course. Europe is beautiful. So much history and culture. I always love going.

I don't mean to suggest that Europe is alone in racism. I mean, I don't need to tell you, but racism is everywhere.

I'm American. It's real bad at home. Always has been. Just a little different than in Europe. I got a friend from Singapore. Also really racist there too. I live in Eastern Europe right now. Racism pretty bad, but especially by border agents.

3

u/freetrambopaline 23h ago

I never said they're doing a great job, but they're trying.

2

u/WearyCopy5686 23h ago

They can do much better than that especially when Europe created race etc.

4

u/freetrambopaline 23h ago

We are doing much better than America. In America your president posted pictures of the Obama's as gorillas!?! In Europe that is the end of your political career.

Europe may of invented the race thing but my god Americans ran with it, and when the world started to move on you brought it right back. There's more flagrant Nazis in America then in Germany.

4

u/WearyCopy5686 23h ago

Do you want me to go there about Europe’s current ties to literal genocide as we speak or how racism in sports is so bad in Europe that players retire due to the abuse?

2

u/freetrambopaline 23h ago

Europe is by no means a saint. France fucked Africa along with the UK and Belgium a history that we get taught in all it's atrocities we don't sugar coat it. But in the states, your racism feels like a yearning for the old days. a sheer disstain for progression.

3

u/WearyCopy5686 23h ago

Your racism is a yearning for the old days when Ruopean governments have no divested from the spoils of colonialism and buddy up with countries like Israel. How can these countries be far less racist but include Israel in Eurovision and Brexit happened recently?

2

u/freetrambopaline 23h ago

Colonialism through our Europe is now looked as a negative. It's now just evolved in corporate colonialism Apple needs to get that cobalt from somewhere...

Israel are committing atrocities no doubt about that. but Eurovision is not that deep, its signing contest. And Brexit really only hurt Britain... I know I'm British. Brexit was a referendum that shouldn't of even been allowed and played of the fact that the poor people are getting robbed by big bad EU. Funny because The UK had the biggest sway in any vote, the right to veto any action and also EU funded alot of our stuff.

The Brexit vote most likely came from the living crisis post 2008 global financial crisis.

I don’t even watch soccer but was happy that racist ass country lost

Edit: Obviously there’s racism in both countries. Racism is everywhere, racist people are everywhere.

What matters are written protections plus enforcement. Spain comes out ahead of Argentina. Spain has stronger legal and institutional protections to Black people than Argentina.

2

u/LITMAC97 1d ago

I mean yeah it’s great, but Spain isn’t that much better either.

5

u/Background_Hat964 23h ago

Dude they’re not better at all, they’re actually way worse. Spain has a notoriously bad racism problem among their fanbase. UEFA had to start an anti-hate campaign specifically because of how bad it got. The black players in La Liga have been subjected to racist chants, bananas thrown at them, burned effigies, etc. the collective brain rot on here I swear.

4

u/TheCommonKoala 21h ago

As a football fan, I'm going to say between Argentina and Spain, Argentina's team and fanbase have been far more racist throughout this tournament. There were SEVERAL anti-black racist incidents at Argentina matches that FIFA had to investigate and the team/ fanbase said nothing about it. No one is saying Spain isn't racist but it's painfully easy to understand why black people were rooting against Argentina.
