meta It's not goodbye, it's see you around.
Team,
I recently left Best Buy for greener pastures.
I founded this subreddit because r/Bestbuy was failing employees: locking down the sub and mass-deleting posts during major events that affected thousands of us. I wanted somewhere free from corporate interference, and by that measure, this sub has been a success.
But without insider knowledge, I can't be the moderator this community deserves, and pretending otherwise would be a net negative for the folks who call this sub home.
So: we're actively recruiting new mods, and applications are open. Fair warning-- there are a lot of questions. That's on purpose. It weeds out the badge-collectors from the folks who honestly want to make this sub even better.
I'm not disappearing entirely. I'll still check in from time to time. But I want the new mod team to feel free to make improvements where they see opportunities; likely in ways only current employees can appreciate.
I look forward to reviewing applications over the coming weeks and will announce the new mods once they're selected.
Thanks for being an awesome community of blue-shirts and former blue-shirts supporting one another. Don't forget to have fun while being the best!

union I am organizing my store into Best Buy's first Union retail location. AMA
Screenshot of my BBY Connect app logged in for proof that I currently work there. I am a full time sales associate working at the Dedham, MA location for almost a year since September 2025. I began unionizing the store in January of 2026, and have gathered broad support among my coworkers and worked closely with union organizers of both retail and national organizations. I also wrote the article posted to the subreddit about my experiences organizing the store. I can answer any question that does not reveal personal or strategic information about my situation, and I hope I can inspire others to start the work themselves to found their own unions wherever they work.
Disclaimer: I speak only for myself as an individual and for the movement I represent of my fellow workers. I do not represent the brand of Best Buy nor am I related to the corporate entity itself for the purpose of making my statements.

career development/hiring Left BB and have major regrets
Today was my first week gone from BB (still flex) and working at my new job. I was sales/PF full time (FT sales and supported warehouse when needed, which was a lot) and now i work in a job that is mainly computer work and accounting.
Long story short, I NEEDED out of BB and was so happy to leave after crap management and support (hence switching departments every other day) and now that i’m in my new job…I hate it and miss best buy. I know it is just because it will get some taking used to and learning a whole new system (i hated BB when i first started cause training there is terrible) but I truly can’t justify this job.
My position was quickly filled so there is no going back.
Mainly, for the ones that left BB and went to a new job and had regrets, please tell me it gets better. Please tell me you don’t regret it anymore.
I know 3 people that left BB before me and are now back because their jobs didn’t work out, and i don’t want that.

sales Got asked to work in South Carolina from Georgia. Worth it???
Hey everyone,
I'm a part-time advisor at a Best Buy in Georgia, and I was recently asked if I'd be interested in helping out at a store in South Carolina for 3 days due to their tax free event thing.
I've never done anything like this before, so I had a few questions for anyone who's traveled for Best Buy:
- Is it usually worth saying yes?
- What expenses does Best Buy typically cover? (Hotel, mileage, gas, meals, etc.)
- Are the hotels they book generally decent?
- Do you get any extra pay or per diem?
- How long are these assignments usually?
- Is there anything you wish you knew before agreeing to go?
I'd definitely be interested if it's a good opportunity, but I just want to know what to expect before I commit.

sales Is the Verizon SM discount worth it?
So my family has T-Mobile but I’ve been considering switching over to Verizon for the discount. My fam of 4 pays from $150-$180 depending if we go on vacation and use data. T-Mobile gives us perks such as Netflix, Apple TV, hulu, etc. which is pretty nice. I want to hear yall experience if you got Verizon through BB and how yall been liking it. I got approved for $7000 as a finance limit and we are only planning to get the iPhone 17s. Does anyone know if I could stack a student discount on that? How much would it be to add perks like Netflix, HBO, and Hulu? Is the service even good? Apparently my Verizon reps told me that with the plan that I wanted, my initial payment would be $273 and then after that, each month should be around $90 for all 4 lines. I like The reps at my store, but I don’t talk to them enough to have trust with them. Are there any sneaky charges that they could throw in there that I should look out for?

vpl Tv accommodation
Can we use this for a friend? Like if they login to their BB account, use the code and then as a worker I can add the warranty with my discount?

career development/hiring Sales floor -> Warehouse
Does anyone have any experience transfering from sales floor to warehouse and know the best way to go about it. A warehouse position just recently opened up at my store and I’m looking to try and move to it. I tried talking to a leader and he just went into a spiel about making Best Buy a career and not answering any questions. Should I just apply or is there a better way to get the job?

hr Will I be fired for horse play.
I got a call yesterday from HR yesterday, at my store we joke around and horseplay a lot . One of my co workers complained and now I'm under investigation. I talked to the HR case manager she seemed to understand but she said it's not in her hands. Am I cooked ? I've already begun looking for jobs.

customer No, we can’t open sealed products
Anyone else have a sudden influx of “well can we open it to see what it looks like?/see if it has everything!”
Have had this happen a lot in Apple, most notably for the IPad Minis (We don’t have a display and no open boxes). I’m not sure if this is just ignorance on the customers part or some kind of scam to try to trick us into marking this kind of stuff as open box, but I get sort of amused when they start getting mad and yelling at me when I refuse to open Apple products or any type of product that is sealed with more then just a single strand of tape.

leadership What’s going on with BestBuy?
Everything in my store is changing, from management all the way down to the employees. Some of my managers (or former managers) are now supervisors, while some of my supervisors are now shift leads, and vice versa. It feels like everyone's role has changed, and it's causing people to leave or transfer.
In the past two weeks alone, four people have either transferred to another store or put in their two weeks' notice.
Is this happening at anyone else's store, or is it just mine?

accommodations Verizon new account questions
Okay here's the scoop, I wanted to get off my parents' Verizon account so I can have my own account and get a new phone with Verizon. I switched to boost Mobile which runs on AT&t towers to fully remove myself from Verizon. My question is how long do I have to wait for this to work so I can get a new phone from Verizon. I'm going to use salesmaker after I get the phone to help with the bill but I need to become a new line first. I've already done the port out to boost I'm just waiting to be taken off the account. How cooked am I?

accommodations Can someone explain how the AT&T employee discount works
I am on a postpaid AT&T plan. Looking to upgrade my phone to a new iPhone 17 Pro Max through the AT&T 36 month financing.
My question is, if I am only upgrading my one line (which is part of a multi-line plan) how does the employee discount apply? Is it directly to the whole plan itself? Can it only apply to one line? Will it discount on POS?
Any clarifications would be great to know.
edit: btw I am a blue shirt, not an at&t employee/vpl

product flow Isn't it great when over 50% of the truck team call out in one night.
Should have been done by now easily but so many called out that I only have 3 people with me tonight. My second validator called out, my trainee for the totes and also validation moved to GS last week and the other person I was training called out. The others came in late, and basically everyone has second jobs so we're not going to stay until we're done and they can't expect us to.
If they have problems with the amount that's going to be left over they should be more earnest in actually hiring people like they said they're supposed to be doing, and they can call those call outs because we've put in the effort tonight and I'm proud of all that half of the team.
Just needed to vent. Almost got crushed 3 times in the trailer because they didn't schedule anyone with me at the start of the shift too just to make things extra fun for me.

leadership what happens when i'm overtime my weekly hours?
i recently took a big chunk of hours from some of my coworkers because i really need the money. i've talked to management about already, and they approved and added the hours to my schedule.
problem is, now I'm over 44 hours in scheduled weekly hours. im a part timer, and i just found out that we shouldn't be going over 40 hours a week.
i want to know what will happen if i still come in and clock in for all of them. i don't know if i'll get in trouble, especially since management already approved everything.
appreciate the help!

career development/hiring Received a job offer, but recruiter hasn’t responded for over a week
I received an offer from my local Best Buy store and was told the next step would be scheduling my new-hire paperwork and confirming my start date.
It has now been over a week, and I haven’t been able to reach my recruiter. I’ve tried texting her and calling her direct line multiple times, but I haven’t received any callbacks or updates.
Has anyone else experienced this during the hiring process? Should I contact the store directly and ask for the hiring manager, or is there another HR or recruiting number I should try?
I’m excited to start and don’t want to be pushy, but the lack of communication is making me nervous that something may have fallen through.

training/events I hate mandatory meetings
I know they happen every year, but they suck so bad. Have to work all day, go home, and then have to go back to sit there for 2 hours to hear things we already know about that could have been put into an email, then have to go back to work the next morning. Hell, these could have just been a mandatory e learning.
