I rarely find these guys in my area so when I do I just take em' in as pets because they are pretty easy to take care of as pets so yeah. They are one of my favorite beetles, so cute!! Last photo is the cutest imo lol

Is it normal for my flake soil to not really smell like anything (yeasty) in its first week? I've never made it before.

I have it out in the garage for warmth, moist enough to clump. I know the process takes months, but I saw a lot of people saying theirs got hot and had an odor from the fermentation pretty quick.

Beetle indie game dev log week 2

i normally love bugs, but this one is freaking me out a bit just because idk where the little guy(or girl) came from. my cat was playing with it and i didn’t know what it was, so i moved it into the light and just was quite shocked. i am assuming its native to ontario, as thats where i am, but the size of it just caught me a bit off guard. it was walking slowly and not flying at all, i have trapped it and dont want to release it if its not native to ontario. i have had millipedes and was made aware after using a certain leaf litter that its been known to possibly carry viable eggs that will hatch in your enclosure.

Here we have an l3 larva (that still have quite a lot left to grow) of Mecynorhina torquata ugandensis, blue line. This is a famous flower beetle from central Africa widely kept in captivity for its ease of care, huge color variability and relatively fast larval time; it's also impressively sized, second only among flower beetles to (not even all) species of the genus Goliathus, the Goliath beetles. This specimen in particular is a male. In the second pic he kinda looks like the brainbug from Starship Troopers.

I put her back in the wooded area behind our facility.

Jewel beetle landed on me yesterday but its wings were messed up. Grabbed a piece of watermelon, took a couple pictures and put it in a safe spot.

So I’m first time grub parent (Giraffe stag beetle) and got my larvae not even a month ago. It’s an L3 and was shipped inside a kinshi bottle, my issue lately is the heatwaves that are happening right now on western Washington state which are making almost any room 83F which is pretty high for larvae as their top temperature is 78F usually.

The only solution I have found easily is I currently have put them in the corner of a cardboard box with a frozen plastic bottle/ ice cubes wrapped in a kitchen towel in the other end of the box, putting a kitchen towel on top of the box to make the environment more cooled down and keep the air. However I doubt this is the best method and would like if anyone had something similar happening and how was it fixed. Thanks in advance

i really want rainbow stag beetles, specifically 3 females! i have done lots of research and know general care for them, but i havnt been able to find a recommended tank size. i have a 5.5 gallon long tank that i will make bioactive. is that a good tank size?

Top : Female Oryctes Nasicornis and Lucanus Cervus

Middle : Cerambyx Cerdo

Bottom : Chrysolina Coerulans, another Longhorn Beetle and a male Stag Beetle, both of which were dead

Any ideas where it would go? We have our AC on and have checked most spots already, especially lights and windows.

Found this beetle upside down in my yard (southwestern europe), tried to help it but it keeps flipping back on its side, one of its hands seems curved inward, tried to give it food (lettuce, watermelon and peach but it doesn’t seem interested).

Can anyone help me help it? I don’t know what species it is so idk what it eats or how to help it

pic4: Pretend the substrate is a tax inspector and beat it up, then pack it tightly into the case to a depth of about 1 inch (2 cm). What you see on the pic isn't a white turkey tail log—it's OTAKU's arm.

pic5: Place the log. One side isn’t actually a log—it’s a “birthday cake” made by compacting substrate and mycelium.

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who has provided insight and advice for taking care of my cute little female Hercules Beetle, Pebble. I was trying out old bananas, cucumber, and other pieces of produce with high moisture for her to eat, but any time she seemed to be in her food dish, she was just pissed and wouldn't eat while near the food (just "hissed" and scrambled around). I was worried because it seemed like she was in distress and not eating, but she kept coming back to her food bowl and sitting in it. Maybe bc she got stuck or just didn't understand that she can't burrow down into ceramic since the bowl was very shallow and I keep plenty of foliage around and partially IN the bowl so she doesn't get stuck inside.

Anyways, today I gave Pebble a mix of 1:1 maple syrup/water on a cotton round and she actually stopped scrambling to get a good long taste of that jon. This was the first time that she was out of the enclosure that she didn't become distressed and start rubbing her wings together. I have been avoiding taking her out because I don't want to cause her stress, but I'll move her out of the dish when she seems like she starts to try and dig out of it. I'm just glad that she was not pissed off today and seemed genuinely comfortable and chill. I ditched the ceramic bowl, and just have the cotton round sitting in her enclosure on top of a bottle cap now. I was mostly just trying to use the bowl for easy food changes with the banana and so mold didn't spread onto the ground or anything, but I think I'll try to just keep feeding Pebble with this sap mixture.

She's made little tunnels around the whole tank and seems to have found a corner that she likes especially well. She seems quite lively and I hear her in the night being busy ASF, which I hope is good, but please let me know if this is not her being comfortable or is a sign of restlessness.
