I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy a game as much as I did BG1 and 2.

And before you ask, no, it’s not just because of Aerie, even though I adore her. I really had fun playing through BG1 and 2, and that includes Dragonspear.

The plots were amazing, the characters were amazing, and the gameplay was adequate enough for me to keep going. I almost feel depressed knowing I’ll never finish TOB for the first time ever again. People who played these games when they first came out (back when I was a toddler), I must know, is this how it feels?

Beat bg2 again and TOB for first time.

Well, I played way too much bg2 and beat it in a month vs bg1 3 months. Haha

BG2 is one of my favorite games, probably was until witcher 3 which is just so damn amazing, and going back was so nostalgic. This game just holds up so well, except for party members running into each other, and the story and irenicus are still top notch. Warner's performance is still amazing and wouldn't be matched for years imo.

This series is such a perfect duology, and bg2 successfully ramps up the stakes of the first game without weakening the characters. The mechanics can be a bit easy to break at times, but it still brings me back to my ad&d days in the basement.

This is also the first time I beat TOB, didn't own then computer broke and didn't have a home one for 10 years. What a great ending, even if I dont think Amelyssan doesn't hit the heights of Sarevok and Irenicus, she and the 5 were great sub bosses. Great satisfying ending imo. Only complaint is treatment of Khalid, which didn't factor enough in jaherias story in the end.

Torn over whether 1 or 2 hits best, but they are so close and seamless they play like 1 near perfect game anyways.

Now a break before bg3, I am intrested if it continues the story or is basically a brand name cause this shit is tied up tidy.

Original BG2 Sherwin Williams Players

I just have to say that I used to play this game for hours and hours every day for a decade or more. And I still play it on steam from time to time when I get a break. But I’m building a house in Denver, and I walked into Sherwin-Williams to get paint chips and found out that four people were openly discussing Irenicus’ dungeon and my flabbers were gasted. I swore I misheard and then someone called me so I had to leave before I could try to chime in. I swear, it was like hearing a sleeper agent wake word out of the blue 20 years later and it made my day.

BG2EE Why is Adalon so much harder than the other dragons?

I've killed Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon within a couple of tries. With the former, I used one companion to bait out the first wave of his attacks/spells, then had the rest of my party finish him off. With the second one, I used Remove Magic to get rid of his Protection Against Magical Weapons; after that, he is not that difficult.

I have already gotten out of the Underdark and have no need to do that, but I kind of want to kill Adalon. IDC that she is "good"; I found her obnoxious. Yet she is insanely more difficult than the others. She doesn't seem to be getting hit easily and within seconds my party members are panicking or knocked back.

How is it possible to kill her?

BGEE Please explain backstab to me

Hey there fellow party gatherers, at the moment I'm in TOB with a druid who is still under his 3M cap and loving it. Traded Jan for Sarevok and Jaheira is loosing her shit. However, I'd like to know how backstab is good.

I imagine that to backstab, one must be invicible and quite silent on the toes. Then, the thief will backstab, do some damage and probably be in range of freaking danger. So, how does one utilize backstab correctly?

BG2EE How do I beat Torgal?

Trying to do a quick run with Fighter to Dual to Druid at 13 asap.

For that Im only bringing as little help as possible to not waste xp....

Was doing Nalis Keep and got stuck on Torgal.

Even tho Im using Flail of Ages and he gets slowed+I use DUHM ability, he still so hard to hit and he hits me like 1/3 of thw time.

My lowest ac buffed is (-)7 and thaco wit FoA is 5.

I can't burst him with Nalia cuz she too wrak and my char whiffs a lot...

What the deal with his debusff is there a way to to stop the str drain and slow...I already sued Speedpots but somehoww he still doesnt died.

I have beated him with less effort on Easy but somehow Normal and he becomes the dumbest stat block ever.

Should I get a weapon Im specced in? Is there a way to cheese him?

I ceushed the rest of the keep but this guys so annoying, even just getting him solo is hard enough. Been trying for like 15 time. I managed to beat him once and my char died cuz bersker ended at the end of the battle and I didn't have time to quicksave. T-T

When people say “Baldur’s Gate Trilogy”, do they mean Baldur’s Gate 3 or ToB?

I’ve been reading some older posts that referred to it as a trilogy before BG3 came. Out

Original BG1 Help finding strategies to survive ORIGINAL Shoal's kiss.

I just came to realize that for my current PC, it makes no roleplaying sense to let anyone get the kiss in her own stead like I did in other play-throughs — she'd want it to herself. Now, she's a well-read person, aware of the nymphs' and nereids' danger, and doesn't mind waiting until she's prepared — but she's definitely risking a nereid's kiss at some point, all the more for its lethality.

Which presents a shaggle, as I'm playing original unmodded pre-EE BG1+ToTSC.

All the search results I get on surviving Shoal's kiss (as opposed to sacrificing then raising a teammate) relate to EE, where it first got made a spell effect instead of a script effect, then given a saving throw, then nerfed in a number of consecutive ways. In ToTSC, it does not knock you unconscious, it does not leave you with 1 HP, it does not deal acid damage (or HP damage of any kind), it does not have the nice lady get sorry and raise you, it does not grant a saving throw.

I don't have many tools yet on this save (as I said, I'm OK with roleplaying as identifying an alluring yet dangerous creature, not approaching her immediately, but coming back out of curiosity with tools for the job), but from what I had readily available to check, neither Magic Protection scrolls nor magic resistance nor getting HP past maximum is of any help.

Anyone has experience dealing with the pre-EE version, or a better skill at searching for older results than I get?

Should I play my first playthrough with the NPC Enhancement Mod?

I am a big fan of companions, banter, and their backstories. So I am debating whether to use the NPC Enhancement Mod. How is it?

Im reading some of the comments on Reddit and it seems like I’ve missed a lot of stuff

I don’t think I was able to romance Jaheira. I’m still not finished (on Chapter 6) but some comments mention stuff that I have no idea about. Is that normal? Keep in mind that I have 300 hours between BG1, SoD, and BG2. I try my best to see stuff.

Original BG2 EE keeper advice

Hello, I’ve been dabbling a few numbers for the EE keeper from what I understand is that to increase the number of plots at the effect the spells are usually just use stats right above there’s a priest spell levels at and always use as 511 i spell level same with wizard spell lots it’s just above then also in the in the
In the casting time modifier just increase the numbers to make it instantaneous also and I can use any item just use the relevant C2 two and the next bottom is 511 really it’s been fun because in chapter 1 I used Yoshimo imoen as fightermage dual class it’s been really fun hurting magic missiles at will and also fireballs that’s why I’m sharing what I’ve learned in the EE keeper so I apologise if my messaging is messed up

Original BG1 Did Sarevok Misunderstand Alaundo's Prophecy?

I apologise if this has been asked before, I did perform a search but it's Reddit so... But did Sarevok misunderstand/misinterpret the prophecy surrounding the Bhaalspawn?

In Baldurs Gate 1, his plan is to trigger a "war of sacrifice" between Baldurs Gate and Amn, and thus install himself as the Lord of Murder.

However, we know that the only way to become the Lord of Murder is to kill all of the other Bhaalspawn, returning their "essence" which once accumulated could eventually could be used to either resurrect Bhaal (as was his intention) or to claim the power for yourself, becoming the new Lord of Murder.

So was Sarevok wrong? Did he believe that triggering a war would be enough by itself to turn him in to the Lord of Murder?

Or did he think that the war would attract other Bhaalspawn to the region so that he could take them out? In the intro he seems to know that he will need to murder his other "siblings," i.e. "I will be the last... But you will go first..." but is he actually conscious that he NEEDS to murder the other Bhaalspawn for their essence, or is that just a natural conclusion to his plans in order to remove any other potential claimants to the throne?

I’m somewhat surprised by the popularity of the eyeless cult

So, I haven’t been in a lot of cults, but the way I understand it they usually don’t start with the hardcore stuff. As a novice, you would start out by hearing a plausible-sounding philosophy and partaking in some relatively innocent rituals. It’s only when they’ve sucked you in well and good that they tell you how you really need to let the cult leader sodomise you if you want to attain the next level of enlightenment.

With the cult of the Unseeing Eye, they initiate new members by poking out their eyes. That sounds like a very hard sell. How did they get so many members?

BGEE Is the Sword and Shield Fighting Style underpowered?

I recently noticed while playing BG1 that the Sword and Shield Fighting Style (S&SFS) doesn't provide its AC bonus against missile weapons when a character is using a one-handed missile weapon (throwing axes, darts, slings, throwing daggers, etc.). This doesn't make sense to me because it's unrealistic; in real life, Legionaries in Ancient Rome frequently used their Plumbata (lead-weighted darts) and Pila (javelins) in one hand, allowing them to still use their shields in the other hand. Given this fact, I have no idea why the S&SFS doesn't give its AC bonus while a character with at least one proficiency point in that fighting style is using a one-handed missile weapon. Could this be a limitation of the Infinity Engine?

Another issue I have with S&SFS is how it doesn't provide an AC bonus against melee attacks. You'd think that since adding proficiency points to S&SFS represents a character learning to use a shield more effectively, it'd also boost that character's AC against melee attacks. Personally, I'd suggest giving S&SFS a -1 bonus to AC against melee attacks when one proficiency point is added to that fighting style, and a -2 bonus to AC against melee attacks when two proficiency points in total are added to that fighting style.

For those who think that my proposed changes might make S&SFS overpowered and would make the Single-Weapon Fighting Style obsolete (I have problems with that fighting style that I'd like to go into in another thread later), I'd say that S&SFS represents fighting with a maximal emphasis on defense, hence my boosting of its defensive properties. My changes still wouldn't provide the boost to Critical Hits that Single-Weapon Fighting Style provides either.

What does everyone here think?

BGEE Why does Alora in BG1:EE automatically have a Proficiency Point in Two-Weapon Fighting Style when recruited?

When I met and recruited Alora in BG1, she already had a Proficiency Point in Two-Weapon Fighting Style that I couldn't reassign (i.e., it was automatically assigned and could not be removed and reassigned). Why is that? I can tell this is an addition by Beamdog, because Fighting Styles weren't yet a thing in the original BG1.

What I can't understand is why Alora would always have a Proficiency Point in Two-Weapon Fighting Style. As a Trueclass Thief, she can't assign more than one Proficiency Point to that Fighting Style, leaving her with a hefty -2 penalty to Main Hand THAC0 and -6 penalty to Off-Hand THAC0. Even taking her Rabbit's Foot luck bonus into account, that still leaves Alora with no THAC0 penalty to her main hand and a -4 THAC0 penalty to her offhand. Her situation isn't helped by how poor Alora's base THAC0 is, so she will normally struggle to hit anything while fighting with two melee weapons, short of some involved buffs.

Did someone in the BG1 and 2 community specifically ask Beamdog to include an unremovable Proficiency Point in that Fighting Style? Or did a Beamdog developer find Alora particularly appealing and pre-assigned that Proficiency Point to make her more "unique" in a way?

Did anyone here come up with a way to make Alora more viable while using two melee weapons? I'd like to know.

SoD Companion conflicts in SoD

So after having played BG1 and 2 when they came out (in 1998-2000) and, through them, having experienced my first video-game related aesthetic shock, I finally got around to buying BG3.

Before playing it, however, I wanted to try the first 2 games again. I honestly thought that, despite nostalgia, I wouldn't be able to stomach all the missing features of modern games. I bought both EE for pennies, with that brand new Siege of Dragonspear which I wasn't aware of.

And lo and behold, I've already sunk more than 100h replaying BG1, tracking every steam achievement, doing all new companions quests. I even got a kiss from Neera. These games are still incredible.

What I particularly like to play, is a semi-evil party with many mages. CHARNAME is a CN mage thief, I have Neera, Baeloth, Imoen (dual classed as mage as soon as I got her), Xzar (and Viconia, cause I needed a cleric, and had, a long time ago, an affair with her, which I still vividly remember 30 years later 😍)

So after this long, winded introduction, as I'm nearing the final showdown with Sarevok, I'm really looking forward to SoD, but as I know I can't have Xzar and Imoen, I was wondering if, even with Neera in my party, I could recruit Edwin. I've read somewhere there weren't deadly conflicts between party members in SoD, but couldn't find solid evidence for it.

TIA

BG1 and 2 veterans, how many callbacks/references are there in BG3 ? Spoiler

I've never played BG1 and played at most 2 hours of BG2. Nevertheless, I recognized Jaheira and Minsc as returning characters, as well as Sarevok. Although those are big characters, I was wondering how many small references are there to the other games that I just didn't get (I discovered yesterday that the Balthazar that... Balthazar got his ribcage from was from BG2 DLC)

BGEE First Time Playing

First time playing BGEE. I have some shallow knowledge of bg3, and some outside D&D knowledge, but I doubt that will help much. Any tips?

Edit: Thanks for the tips. Looks like I’ve got some reading to do lol. I’m super excited though! (And wish me luck)

Playing as a Shaman: I Don't Hate It

In fact, I am really enjoying this playthrough. The shaman to me feels like a really well-balanced pocket knife. You're not the best at anything, but you can do a lot of everything. Slinging spells (which is better with the shaman low lvl spells), using shortbow or throwing axe, it has a bit of tanking capability with stoneskin and the HLA and the Shamanic Dance... is actually better than I expected. The way people talk about this, I thought it'd be useless. But no, free summons can make some battles like the Mindflayers surprisingly easy.

But the biggest selling point: sorcerer-esque spellcasting. With both Jaheira and Cernd I'm spending the entirety of SoA having one stoneskin and one insect plague. The wizard xp progression and the fact that you can cast on the fly means you can spam insects a lot more. And I was surprised to learn that you get a decent chunk of lvl 5 spells mid-game. The more I play with druid, the more I think the druid xp curve is really, really damaging to the class. Especially to a multi like Jaheira.

Yeah, I can't complain. I recommend a shaman playthrough.

Names appreciation

Maybe it’s solely because of nostalgia for playing these games for 25 years, but whenever I play a game and want to create my PCs name or try to appreciate NPC names In other games none are as cool as from this trilogy: Ajantis, Valygar, Jaheira, Imoen, Dynaheir, Montaron, Viconia, Mazzy, Haer-Dalis - Irenicus, Arkanis, Davaeorn, Mulahey, Hareishan, Kangaxx etc.

Which cool ones did I miss?
