questions Anyone going to Victoria?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello All,

I’m going to be on Bainbridge from 7/30-8/2.

This timeframe is too short to make a trip up to Victoria but maybe one of you folks will be up there between now and then.

I am looking to obtain a bottle of Sheringham Whiskey. Unfortunately they do not stock nor so they ship this bottle to the US. I had this whiskey during my wedding and we have been looking for a bottle ever since. I would be happy to meet you on the island for an exchange between 7/30 and 8/2.

business Recommendation for tree service?

Good morning -

Looking for recommendations for a firm on Bainbridge or Kitsap County that could help with some tree removal/tree trimming.

  • We have a few trees that have slouched to the point where they are pushing over fences. The biggest one is a cedar that is about 50 feet tall. It is relatively close to the house.
  • We have some trees whose branches have gotten long enough that they are now overhanging the roof - I've done what I can but there are branches that are taller than my arms + pole saw...

I'd really appreciate any recommendations (or warnings...).

Thank you very much!

questions Bioluminescence this week?

It looks like we'll have a decent bit of warming over the next couple days & I'm curious to get people's takes on our chances of experiencing bioluminescence swimming.

My family and I really enjoyed our experience last year and hope to repeat it this year. Thanks for any insight!

Free Kids Party Planning Guide with local venues, entertainers & more

I've seen quite a few posts asking for birthday party recommendations across various channels, so I put together a free guide with local venues, entertainers, bakeries, balloon artists and other party resources for Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County.

I don't collect emails or anything—I just thought it might save other parents some time!

If it's helpful, you can find it here: https://www.ericksoneventdesign.com/kids-party-guide

If I've missed a great local business, I'd love recommendations for the next edition. Happy planning!

"Housing Resources Bainbridge is the primary developer responsible for the project, which is located at the intersection of Ericksen Avenue NE and Knechtel Way NE. The housing features 12 one-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units, with the project’s budget approximately $8.18 million.

HRB shared that rent will be set by the project’s government funders to be affordable to households earning at or below 50% of the area median income ($45,400 for a one-person household and $64,800 for a four-person household). HRB was awarded seven project-based vouchers for the project. Residents of homes with vouchers will pay 30% of their household income toward rent, with the federal government covering the remainder..."

Remodel cost

We are considering buying a 2000 sq ft, 1970s era home on the island that needs a complete remodel - kitchen/2 bathroom complete overhaul, replace carpet with wood flooring, interior and exterior paint, re-texturing the popcorn ceiling, new doors, likely new windows, probably other things I am not thinking of. We would also likely add a bathroom and, ultimately, convert the 400 sq ft garage to living space. Any idea what ballpark price range would be for mid to upper range finishes? Appreciate any info you can provide!

Solar Discount Program Ends on July 31st! (exclusively for BI residents)

July is the final month to sign up for the very popular Solarize Bainbridge program! More than 350 residents have signed up for a free assessment since it launched in March. Solarize Bainbridge Island is a limited-time solar education group purchasing program designed to make installing solar energy systems simple, accessible, and secure. People who sign up for this program also get a discount compared to what you'd get with market-rate prices.

Running through July 31, the program helps residents and business owners transition to clean, renewable energy, and reduce energy bills by generating their own electricity and participating in net metering, which provides utility bill credits for surplus energy sent back to the grid.

Learn more and sign up for your assessment at SolarizeBainbridge.org or email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) to get directly in touch with the program admins.

(NOTE- the July 31st deadline is for signing up for an assessment, not for signing a solar contract or complete an installation).

Construction costs for attached garage?

We moved on island about two years ago but our home doesn’t have a garage. There is a perfect spot to attach a two car garage with a living area above (w/ simple bathroom).

Any ideas on cost per sq ft for something like that? I see that a lot of full homes go for $700-$900 per sq ft but would think this would be much cheaper since there is no kitchen, or as much electrical, plumbing, or finish work with half of it being garage.

Free things to do after walk on ferry.

I’m trying to find things to do for summer break with my two teenagers (and maybe a friend) as cheap as humanly possible. So I decided that we are going to do the walk on fairy from Seattle to come to your side since I have never been here in the 20+ years I’ve lived here.

So, what is there to do and see that is either super cheap or preferred free. I’m planning on bring a cold lunch for us to eat at either the dock if there are tables or a park.

And are there any good places for pokemon go?

Any interest in poker?

My husband and I just moved to Bainbridge Island. We are avid poker players (also play spades, hearts, golf, euchre) and had a 'regular crew' we played with in our previous cities. I'm wondering if anyone is interested.

We usually look for 6-7 people in total to keep the game managable. We play some nickel, dime, quarter poker (low stakes), but also like to play some progressive pot games that can spike pots (usually with a cap to keep it friendly). Usually a $10 or $20 buy in. It's usually dealers choice with a rotating deal, so everyone gets a chance to call their favorite game. We usually don't play much Texas Hold-Em....but have some fun poker and non-poker variations. And some like to call Black-Jack or Acey Ducey for a change.

If anyone has an interest, reach out or reply! We're happy to host a game.

news Community Voices on KUOW

Hi there, my name is Alex Rochester. I work at KUOW, the Seattle NPR station ensuring we feature a diversity of political perspectives. I'm working on a new project called "Community Voices" that aims to expand the range of opinions that we hear on KUOW. We think it’s critical that we all understand what people in our communities are thinking and feeling about the big events and issues of the day.

To broaden the conversation, we're recruiting a diverse pool of people who represent a wide array of political perspectives, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences.

As we cover the news in the coming months, we will turn to the pool of “Community Voices” to hear your thoughts and help us understand how the big issues of the day are affecting you. We will highlight those views in KUOW’s coverage.

If you're interested in participating, you can sign up on this page or directly through this form (this format is easier on phones). You can also DM me and/or comment on this post with your thoughts.

questions Looking for a neighborhood (and community)

My family loves Bainbridge and we're planning on moving from Seattle. We are in our early 40s and have a 6 year old entering first grade. I am trying to learn more about the elementary schools and different neighborhoods and was hoping to get opinions from people who live on the island. We love hiking, spending time at the beach investigating tide pools, and kayaking/paddling. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lots of aircraft between 5 and 6 PM tonight

I heard lots of aircraft overhead in Winslow. Sounded quite low. I figured maybe they were diverting some aircraft at SeaTac due to backups. Anyone know?
