I'm looking for recommendations for a 45 to 50 mile road ride on a Specialized road bike.
I'm willing to drive 20 to 30 minutes from Palo Alto to a starting trailhead, but I'm trying to avoid big mountain passes like Old La Honda, Kings, or Tunitas Creek. I'm aiming for flat or gently rolling terrain instead of multi-thousand-foot climbs.
The biggest thing for me is the mid-ride reward: I want the 20 to 25 mile turnaround point to be a cool, hidden gem food spot tucked away in nature—like a bakery, taco spot, or cafe surrounded by trees or the coast, rather than a generic strip mall off a highway.
Right now, I'm considering Stage Road down to Arcangeli Grocery in Pescadero, or riding Coyote Creek Trail down toward Morgan Hill.
Are there any other great routes or tucked-away food spots I should look into? Thanks!

Hi yall! I have been living in the Bay Area for a few years now, but only recently have got access to a car and have got my bike shipping out here! I grew up riding in North Carolina and worked at a resort in Colorado the last 2 summers as a downhill instructor. I've got out for a few rides but so far only really explored Pacifica on my own. I am wondering if anyone would want to go for a ride some time and maybe show me around some new trails! I also always love helping dig as well!

I understand the comment about delivery drivers in the end but I think the solution to that is to assign special loading zones every 200-300m or so.

I want to buy a cheap used tandem bike and ride it on the bay trail. I don't want to have to bike in the road at all for this. I live in the city but no car, and you aren't allowed to take a tandem on the train

There are a few caltrain stops that have immediate access to the bay trail. The most practical for me are Broadway, Belmont, and Mountain View.

My goal would be to store a tandem at one of these stops, train down, bike around, and store it again.

Bikelink would be pretty much perfect, but I doubt I can fit a tandem bike in it even with the wheels off. I know mountain view also has a bike garage that may fit my needs.

It will be a cheap bike because I expect it to get stolen eventually. But I'd like it to be safe enough to maybe have an expected value of about a year

Making a super last minute trip from LA to the Bay Area to pick up a new bike today. Want to ride it tomorrow. It’s been a minute since I’ve had a bike, but I’m relatively fit. Looking for something easy-ish in the 20-30 mile range.

I'm headed up to Sacramento in a few weeks, and I'm looking to get ~40 miles done in the morning before my kids wake up. I'll only be riding on roads (25mm tires), and wanted some feedback on people who have ridden the American River Trail. Are there a lot of stop signs/crossings to deal with? Anything I should look out for? Is it worth doing a different loop to get ~40 miles in?

I am planning a quick getaway bike trip to the coast starting in Sebastopol. On the last day, I plan on catching the SMART from Larkspur to Downtown Santa Rosa, and riding back to Sebastopol on the Joe Rodota trail. I have ridden the western part of the trail into Sebastopol a few years ago, and found it to be great, but I read some comments on trail apps suggesting the eastern/Santa Rosa end is unsafe and dirty. Can anyone share current conditions? I am thinking of just riding W 3rd from the train station out to Dutton or Stony Point and dropping into the trail out there. Thank you!

Why is it always a guy in a pickup truck?

I generally try to ride in low traffic areas and try to be mindful of cars on the road but on the whole almost every bad encounter I have ever had with a car has been with a white male in a pickup truck.

Honking, yelling, passing by too fast and too close and what would normally be a quiet residential street or country road.

Considering this is the Bay Area of all places, I can’t imagine what riders and other parts of the country do.

Western Wheelers is hosting memorial rides in his honor this weekend. All are welcome to join.

Note that the ride has changed from the description as we found out that the ferry from Treasure Island only allows up to 6 cyclists. So we'll be riding to the end of the Bay Bridge bike path, honor his memory there, and take BART to SF where cyclists can opt to take Caltrain home or ride the Bay Trail back to the starting point. The RWGPS has been updated however. It's a lot of miles but very flat.

I'll have my bike decorations at Elmwood Beer Walk on Sat July 18th - come by to try beers, browser maker and artist booths, and find cool bike decorations! No ticket needed to shop artisans and street vendors.

I don't know my exact location yet, I'll comment when I have it.

So I'm trying to commute from SOMA (Civic Center-ish) down the bay. I've seen the sf2g "Bayway" route and it looks reasonable, but it's starting in the Mission and crossing on Cortland to hook up with Bayshore and ultimately Tunnel Rd. That seems a bit out of the way for me?

Here's Apple Maps' recommendation. Down Potrero, taking the Cesar Chavez exit and crossing via crosswalk, then hooking up with Bayshore via some industrial-looking backroads (the exact endpoints here are irrelevant; just vaguely showing the area I'd be coming from). Potrero seems fine; I'm unsure about the crossing as I'm not too familiar with that area.

Any suggestions? Comments on this route or completely different routes welcome. The priority is safety and an enjoyable commute over speed. Climbs are fine - can shower at the office.
