Care Provider Rec Best Sports PT in Austin for Achilles Rehab?

Hey everyone,

I'm 27 and ruptured my left Achilles playing basketball. I had a PARS (minimally invasive) Achilles repair about 3 weeks ago and will be starting physical therapy soon.

I want to get back to playing basketball, lifting, running, and being active again.

Who would you recommend as the best sports-focused physical therapist or clinic in Austin for post-op Achilles rehab? I'd especially love to hear from anyone who's recovered from an Achilles rupture or returned to sports after surgery.

I've heard good things about Austin Sports Medicine, but I'm open to any recommendations if you've had an amazing experience.

Running Event Any former Houston Marathon Runners here?

Just looking for some general advice? Ran Austin this year and the Austin Half was perfectly timed for my Tune up race. What have you guys decided on for yours? Would you advise staying there overnight or make the drive? Any course tips? I chose this over Austin this year because I’ve heard it’s a fast and flat course. Yeah, just any type of advice is welcome.

Hi everyone!

I aspirationally registered for the California International Marathon (CIM), but will not be lacing up this year. The event is December 6, 2026 in Sacramento, CA and is sold out. The course is one of the fastest.

Run Buddy Hill of Life on Sunday, appreciated the encouragement

I was hiking the Hill of Life on Sunday to prep for an upcoming backpacking trip, and a dude said "good job!" to me as he passed me going the opposite direction. I was too in my head to respond before he was gone, but I appreciated it. It lightened my load. Good job to you, too, kind stranger!

(The post flair is a bit of a stretch, which might mean this is off-topic for the sub. If so, apologies!)

Safety Good Pain Athletics Run Club - what’s their deal?

Post image
125 Upvotes

What is up with this group? I’ve consistently encountered them on the trail 7+ across, and have always wondered who they were, and this morning finally realized what group they are. I’ve seen them push people off the trail, including parents with children, with their lack of care and attention for others. I was trying to run at Zilker this morning and they literally took up the entire road by running 10 across, despite seeing other groups and solo runners like myself training. Instead of using the empty parking lot to congregate they just posted up on the side of the road, again taking up a huge amount of space. They were just standing in the middle of the road talking and taking selfies. They have too many runners to be this ignorant of basic running etiquette.

I want to be supportive of any crew that encourages running but it’s hard to share space with such an entitled group. The level of selfishness is wild and is anti-community/feels like the embodiment of all the negative ways that Austin is changing. Makes me sad!

Hey guys! I’ll be in Austin this weekend and i’m trying to break free from the shackles of being an introverted runner. Are there any run clubs hosting on Sunday? 😬🩷

Safety I honked at yall at Stephen drive

Ok, I was driving west of downtown and a group of 4 runners turned onto the street I was also turning onto and proceeded to run in the middle of the of the road.

I flashed my brights at yall a few times to no avail, maybe I would have just passed in the opposing lane but you were literally in the middle.

In the end, I chose to tap the horn and a few of yall jumped out of your skin terrified.

What the heck is this strange behavior runners?

I’m just a cyclist and a car driver so i don’t know what’s going on. I did not like having to honk at pedestrians.

Run Gear Run club leaders — how do you handle group comms?

I run a small product studio and I'm building something specifically for run clubs. Before I go too far down the rabbit hole, I want to talk to people who actually deal with this problem.

Here's what I keep hearing: the group chat is where everything happens, but it's also where everything gets lost. Route changes, meetup times, pace group assignments, last-minute cancellations — gets buried under 200 messages about shoes or brunch after.

The problem is that there's no structure inside the chat. So the idea is widgets — small, interactive tools that live inside the conversation instead of pulling people out to a separate app. Some examples of what these could look like:

— A pinned run card that shows the next meetup (time, location, route map) and updates in one place instead of getting re-posted and scrolled past

— Strava integration that pulls in everyone's activity so the group can see who ran what without people manually sharing screenshots

— A quick RSVP widget so leaders can get a headcount before a run without counting reply emojis

— Pace group sorting so people can self-select into groups and know who they're running with before they show up

— A weather check tied to the run location and time so the "is it gonna rain?" question answers itself

I don't have a fixed feature set — can build based on what clubs actually need. The ones above are just starting points based on conversations I've had so far.

If you lead a run club (or help organize one) and any of this sounds like a real problem for you, I'd genuinely like to hear from you. Not trying to sell anything — we don't even have a product to sell yet. Just looking for a few clubs to pilot with and help shape what this becomes.

DM me or drop a comment. Happy to jump on a call or just trade messages, whatever works.

Route Request Open Tracks in Downtown Austin / North Austin

What’s going on y’all! I’m new to town looking for a track to do speed work but have found that most public high schools have gates to jump… are there any high school/middle school tracks that are open to the public? I’m at Austin High School currently and am unsure if the public can use the track… looking for tracks in either downtown Austin or north Austin. Thank you all!

Run Gear Wahoo Kickr Run Treadmill Demo?

Hi! I'm considering purchasing a Wahoo Kickr Run treadmill, but before I plunk down the ~$8K total cost I'd like to give it a try! Does anyone in the greater Austin / San Antonio area have one I could run on? I'm happy to pay you in exchange for letting me do a one hour run on it.

Run Buddy M, 23, Black, New to North Austin, Would love to partake in a run club or at least have somebody to jog with

As the title states, I just recently moved to North Austin from Houston. I've always ran alone, but i've been a bit lonely since moving here as I don't have many friends, or know the area very well. I wouldn't mind finding a run club to run with or a indivual by any means! I will say morning and weekends work the best for me

Route Request Looking for good “Adventure Routes”

When I get burnt out of my normal routes, I go on “adventure runs” as I call them. Basically I’ll run to new parts of the trail, or a mural, a coffee shop I haven’t been to, or a new shop and maybe end with a beer. I usually try to run from 3-4 places on these runs.

Do you guys do anything similar and what have been your favorite routes?

Route Request Running track for 5k test this summer

Hi all! Seems like a lot of HS tracks are under construction right now. Does anyone have a track they can recommend that's available this summer? I'm looking to go in the morning to 5k test. My usual suspects of Crockett and Austin High are closed still (I think).

Run Buddy New to Austin (and reddit) looking for a safe and fun run club, ideally lots of girls!

Hey, recently moved to Austin, and I created a reddit account just to get as much info as I can about the health & wellness community here. I’m looking for a run club (and gym) rec that has a lot of girls (20-25 yr olds). Austin girlies please point me in the right direction, would love to jump right in and know that i’m picking options that are already approved by other girls! Thx 🙂

Care Provider Rec Doctor/Pt for chronic foot pain from running

I’m a 40 year old female runner in Austin, Texas. I’ve dealt with running injuries ever since I started running at age 18. Currently dealing with chronic heel pain since November 2025 and intermittent Capsulitis second toe/ possible neuroma since September 2024. I feel I’ve tried everything for the heel pain- rest, stretching , expensive orthotics , calf raises- yet I still can’t complete a 2 minute run 2 minute walk for 2 miles without an intense flare after I’ve been to so many PTs, podiatrists and sports doctors and I want to make sure I’m throwing money at the right diagnosis . Anyone have provider recommendations ?

Running Event Austin marathon registration legit or not legit?

I am looking into registering for the 2027 Austin Half. I went to the website and followed the links and he’s taking me to event dog.com? Is this legit? It looks like an odd website and I don’t want to be scammed but I followed all the links? Is this the right place to register?

Thanks in advance.

This just in from Austin Parks & Rec:

Beginning in June 2026 and continuing through March 2027, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail will be rerouted on the north shore near the Confluence and Austin Rowing Club building.

The reroute is taking place so that Austin Energy can install underground electrical infrastructure along the Lady Bird Lake shoreline between Brazos Street and Trinity Street. Butler Trail users are encouraged to slow down as they approach the area and follow on-site staff instructions.

Get the latest facilities, pools and park closure information at:
