They've published nice, clean versions of the Splice Bros. Pizza and the Speakereasy menus. These are much nicer to look at than my haphazard photos, so they get the spotlight!

Annual Passes On Sale, plus Junior Passes Available

Thumbnail atlas9.rezdy.com

As of right now, an Annual Pass is on sale for $85.

The marketing I've seen describes this as available "For a limited time during July", so who knows exactly when this offer ends. I mean, probably not in August, but...

Also, they are now offering Junior Passes for children aged 2-12 for $75 - I'm assuming this is one isn't a sale rate, but again...

Changes since opening

Post image
7 Upvotes

Just from looking at early videos, I can see some minor changes.

  • Polybius machine had the note added. And it used to be playable. It was not working our visits.
  • Crane games are not there in early photos in the arcade.
  • The VERA looks like it has a laser swamp effect in the publicity photo attached. When we first went it was a laser cone going up, and no swamp. Two weeks later, that was broken.
  • No hamburger phone in the den when it first opened (per videos).
  • Theater 8 original read "DO NOT ENTER" on the sign, and now says "AGENTS ->" or similar.
  • Menu changes in the pizza place, at least.

...what other things have changed since opening? It is interesting seeing the tweaks. I always advice folks to go as soon as they can to new things (theme park attractions, etc.) because 1) things may break and never be restored, or 2) things may need to be changed after seeing them in operation. This applies to most businesses, even restaurants (opening menu ends up being different than what they serve six months later).

Atlas9 Dossier (work in progress document)

After our first visit, I began compiling notes into a document. It is a work in progress with comments welcome. After the second trip, I have a lot more information now to add. I basically took photos of each rooms path to any connected room, and did a VR walk through most of the attraction so I could go back and get details (posters, signs, etc.).

If you want to take a look at the in-progress document, which I hope can be useful as the framework for a wiki of dozens of separate pages/entries, here it is the link:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CdiSib3UXpA80QfRO8dEFEnoI2l_Do442Sct69k8rkU/edit?usp=sharing

It does contain spoilers, though ultimately I want to break all of those out so someone could read in-universe sections to better understand the story, and then dig deeper if they want to cheat (maps, lists of phone numbers, etc.)

Containment Day: July 1st, 1995

The 30th anniversary of Atlas9 Containment Day is today, it seems. During FACADE training, we only see clips of this event, but they have now posted a longer video showing the containment box being lowered over the movie theater and nearby pizza restaurant.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/18o2ZzVLds/

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaQS1kgx_5A/

We also see Starbot looming above the building, apparently getting crushed by the enclosure box. Its remains remain there, embedded in the ground, to this day. Not sure why FACADE didn't clean that up too ;-)

360 degree video from The Reel World of Atlas9

The next best thing to being there? Hardly, but probably on the list somewhere. This is a section of a dozen or so 60 second video clips from various rooms inside Atlas9. My favorite is the final clip where theater worker identified as Angel comes in to clean the mirrored walls. Mirror cleaning in VR!

SPOILER: this video reveals how one of the puzzles work and shows someone going in one of the secret doors.

FAZEing once complete can demote you ;-)

NOTE: For the humorless or Pedantic People(tm) out there, this is a joke. I am still listed as a Field Admin, and was not demoted, but the headline is funnier this way.

Two weekends ago we visited Atlas9 for the first time. We explored on a Friday night, then again on Saturday, completing all the cases.

We brought a grandkid to Atlas9 last weekend. While he and grandma were busy exploring and completing the cases (grandkid is now a Field Admin), I roamed around and took photos and 360-degree photos/videos.

A few times I would FAZE in somewhere so I could activate things for my video.

I was surprised when I checked my profile later that now one of my tasks is IN PROGRESS instead of COMPLETE ;-) I had tapped the microphone stand after I heard it play the "sad trombone" for someone. On our first visit, we didn't hear it do anything, though did complete that task. I think by FAZEing there (since I did not FAZE the other step) it reset that status.

Have you noticed any other cases that will do this?

Fully COMPLETED progress reset to "IN PROGRESS" after FAZEing again.

The mirror pedestal - what did it do?

Post image
6 Upvotes

The mirror pedestal is supposed to do something. It is shown in various early videos with people placing hands on it, but it did nothing for us two weeks ago, or last Saturday. We even ran into another group convinced it was doing something.

I spoke with a worker and they said it is supposed to but wasn’t working currently. I think they said it has 8 functions.

Has anyone seen it working?

More Atlas9 photos, sorting updated

https://www.disneyfans.com/photos/misc/OtherPlaces/Kansas/index.html

I added photos taken this past Saturday and resorted the entire gallery. This is different than any other gallery I have shared since 1996. I am trying to organize with folders showing the paths to other rooms. For example, in Speakereasy there will be a folder saying “toProjectionRoom” with a photo of that door or opening, and one for “toLetterHallway”, etc. Still not great but it is helping me organize how everything is connected.

Over 100 VR 360 photos added...

UPDATE: For those who don't do Facebook, I have also uploaded there 360-degree photos to Atlas9's Google Maps entry: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RgLoW8YxYQDkmaUi6

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18kHVoRLtH/

I have at least one more to add, and then I will be working on some VR video from various scenes. These will be stationary views form various cool spot within the attraction.

I also did a 13 minute walking tour of the place, mostly for my benefit, but if the quality is decent enough I will upload that to my Park Hopping in VR YouTube channel. VR videos are the most boring things to watch, but they are great for preservation. (I wanted to be able to go back and look around and see where the connecting rooms are, etc.)

QR code for Annual Pass holders

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

During our first visit to Atlas9, we liked it so much we upgraded our tickets to the yearly annual pass. We were given special pass holder-only T-shirts as part of the deal, which was a surprise. I do not think that is listed on the website:

https://atlas9.rezdy.com/738506/f-a-c-a-d-e-agent-credential-annual-pass?_ga_data=e30%253D

Instead of a wrist band, the annual pass is a card. They gave it to us on a nice day glow orange lanyard.

Unless you are really short, you will probably find that tapping the wristband on a FAZRsis much easier than having to bend over to use the card when wearing it around the neck. For our next visit I may be using mine on one of these retractable things like I've used at past jobs:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09GK2TSVB/

But I digress...

We kept encountering a helpful agent (I think it was C08?) and he would use a tablet to look up our progress. For the wrist band, he could just scan the QR code. For pass holders, the card does not have a QR code. Instead, it has the long URL number printed on the back. He would have to manually type in that long number.

For the next visit, I created a QR code of the URL matching how it appears on the wrist bands. I am inserting it into the card sleeve. This will let us scan our own card to go to our profile web page, or an Agent can do the same with their tablet.

Many online QR generators do NOT make a real QR code with your data. They make one that points to THEIR website then redirects. Those will not work. I did find this free one that generates the raw URL (at least as of this post):

https://www.barcodesinc.com/generator/

If you want to verify what your wrist band QR code says, you can scan it in the phone and see what opens in the browser. Or, you can let a website like this decode it for you:

https://www.qr-codes.com/decoder

What is F.A.C.A.D.E. -> Anomaly Detection?

https://facade.atlas9.com/interfaze/report/quests

After completing all the Cases, I noticed that "Anomaly Detection" has nothing listed in it. Is that the same for everyone? I am unsure what I completed to get this marked off the list.

We are having our progress reset our next visit so we can start over and try some new things.

Rainforest Cafe, T-Ref Cafe, and now ... Atlas9?

Welp, hooked on Atlas9. We originally planned to go one day, and that turned into visiting two days, and now we will be coming back again. I really like the place. So...

TL:DNR - How well do standalone attractions do in the KC area? Do they target locals or tourists?

I had forgotten KC had a Rainforest Cafe until I went to add Atlas9 to my photo gallery and found pictures from when I visited it in 1999. Behold the "high resolution" 640x480 mode of my 1996-era digital camera:

https://www.disneyfans.com/photos/misc/OtherPlaces/Kansas/RainForestCafe1999/index.html

I did remember that the very first T-Rex Cafe opened in KC. I drove down to check it out after one was announced to be coming to Walt Disney World. Apparently I visited twice.

https://www.disneyfans.com/photos/misc/OtherPlaces/Kansas/T-RexCafe/index.html

Video from 2008: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zePiS12uSE&t=92s

Both of these touristy restaurants are gone even though people will go to the same restaurant over and over. I guess it depends on if the food is good enough to justify going once you are tired of robot gorillas and dinosaurs. ;-) Many Rainforest, T-Rex and Planet Hollywood have vanished except in big tourist areas.

Atlas9 is in a weird category. It is like nightlife (food, drink, entertainment), but does the entertainment change enough to need to come back for?

It is also like an art museum, but unless they like looking at the same art over and over, folks may not re-visit until the exhibits change.

It's also kind of like an escape room. Escape Rooms are "one and done" for most people. You may return to try again at a room you didn't complete, but generally once you have done all the escape rooms that interest you at a location, you may never visit again unless they swap out or add a room.

The folks funding Atlas9 have a business model and business plan. But what's the landscape in the KC area? Touristy? Predominately locals? Who is Atlas9 courting?

Mossman poster - why two versions?

Why does the Agent Files include two versions of the Mossman poster, one with the overlay title and other without? The other three posters are just the normal ones. This happened both visits. What is special about Mossman?

Atlas9 map, like a text adventure game... Spoiler

Just for fun (isn't everything related to this place "just for fun"?) I started documenting the layout of Atlas9 similar to how we used to map out text adventure games. This is not meant to be an accurate to-scale layout plan. It basically has rooms and then connections (north, source, west, east) to other rooms.

Some of the "hidden" routes are listed, though there is on I probably don't have properly indicated. I also did not document the tunnels, at least not intentionally. Lots of missing pieces.

I based this on the evacuation plan maps shared here by ReverendLoki and pridefucked. Those maps are missing various details, so my map is currently missing them also.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gbzF2BEPxnMenVksmRjCA3mqcG4qJmdR/view?usp=sharing

If you want to take a look and suggest corrections/additions, please do so.

I have been putting together my notes from our visit into an "Atlas9 Dossier" kind of document.

Question Where Frank went... Spoiler

I'll be vague about this spoiler since it there was a surprise I did not expect. But when we found out where Frank went, I was glad I didn't take a picture of it and "spoil the surprise."

Then I found out, I actually DID take a picture earlier in my visit, and examining that picture showed something different. Very clever!

Without spoiling it for others, have you seed where Frank is/went?

VR360 photos from inside Atlas9

I took a few VR photos during our visit last weekend. REDDIT does not support 360 photos/videos (that I know of), but I shared them to one of my Facebook groups. They will show up as 360 images there allowing you to look all around.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set?set=oa.1714705839703383&type=3

And a short video from the theater:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TjfohMrf1Q

I have a few more photos I need to add, but next visit I may focus more on the VR side of things rather than normal photos.
