NGC 6888 – The Crescent Nebula 🌙✨
This is NGC 6888, the stunning Crescent Nebula, an emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus, approximately 5,000 light-years from Earth.
Its distinctive crescent shape is the result of a dramatic cosmic interaction. At its center lies WR 136, a rare and extremely powerful Wolf-Rayet star nearing the end of its life.
Powerful stellar winds, traveling at more than 1,500 km/s, are sweeping up material expelled during an earlier evolutionary stage, compressing and heating the surrounding gas until it glows.

🔵🟢 Blue/Green: Doubly ionized Oxygen (OIII)
These emissions create the intricate filaments and chaotic structures that make NGC 6888 one of the most fascinating deep-sky objects of the northern summer sky.
In a few hundred thousand years, WR 136 is expected to end its life in a spectacular supernova explosion, enriching interstellar space with heavy elements that will eventually become part of new stars and planetary systems.

Not really a great last few weeks for astrophotography as I only got half an hour of clear skies but I still managed to capture following scene. Shot on Sony a7RV and Sony 11mm f1.8. What do you think?

I know, an aps-c lens on ff, but I'm in the process of upgrading and the wide angle is the last on the list (hasn't been sold yet).

Third time's a charm? During these periods of short summer nights flooded with clouds, I find myself drawn (okay, addicted) to re-processing data captured from the first steps on the astrophotography path. Eight months later, I've learned so much and gained a deeper curiosity and wonder for the cosmos.

Located about 2,900 lightyears away in the constellation Cepheus, NGC 7822 is a star-forming complex sometimes referred to as the Question Mark or Teddy Bear nebula (imagine the frame rotated clockwise to better understand the "question mark" nickname). NGC 7822 even features “elephant trunks” similar to the famous Pillars of Creation.

I've recently gotten the Dwarf3 as a gift (Best gift ever!!!) I've been a photographer for the past 15 years, this takes my appreciation to a whole new level. M8 Nebula, taken from my balcony in Miami... Crazy.

Praying this doesn’t get removed! I checked the flow chart! This is looking toward the East in Sequim, WA. Girlfriend’s dad took this picture and thought it was Jupiter sitting beside the sun, but I thought it was likely an effect of the camera and glass on the window. Probably won’t mention anything to him either way, but would love to know!

Still collecting data, but I couldn’t wait to share the progress. The Crescent Nebula is already starting to show why it’s considered such a rewarding target for long integrations.

I finally captured the Tiangong Spsce Station! 78 degree pass and was able to get around 40 frames and had just caught it as it got to zenith thankfully. Very happy with my first attempt on it.

As part of a work experience week at a local university we went to their observatory where they have a decently large solar telescope on a sturdy tracker mount (I am unsure of the specifics so I cannot really answer any questions lol)

One of the professors (not sure, but person of expertise) set up the telescope for solar imagery and took a few still frames while our student group helped to set a few things up.

Hi I’m a beginner and there’s a partial solar eclipse(80% at most) coming up soon I’d like to view for the first time through my telescope

This is the basic reflector I have, and I’m wondering if this Baader Solar film covering the opening of the reflector (not the eyepiece) is the correct type and everything I need?

I’ve googled and some film seems to be okay for looking with the naked eye but not for telescopes? So I’m not sure. Mainly wondering though if there’s more I need than just the solar film to be looking directly at the sun like also a specific eyepiece or something? Just with it being dangerous I want to be 100% sure I’m doing it correctly, thanks :)

I know I am probably in the wrong but I am desperate, in need of help and who better to ask than those who know more than google. I have dnd character who backstory involves the stars. It's almost borderline religious but not really. The best way I can explain it quickly is like a sailor. The stars are very important, probably at one point thanked/cussed them out but not starting the Church of Stars and Constellation. My character and her family's name is tied to a star/constellation. I am needing help with the "backstory" or what they were named after of stars/constellations.

The mom is Cassiopeia because the constellation is named after the Greek Queen who is arrogant. The mom is arrogant and the leader. Her brother is Rayet for Wolf-Rayet stars. He's the fighter of group so massive star seemed fitting. Her sister Maia from the Taurus constellation. She's the master of disguise so the whole 7 sisters story fits. The dad is where I get stuck. He is the sticky fingers, can pick any lock, slide of hands. I tried looking up on hoogle what feels like every constellation, different word combination. The only thing that comes up is Orion but the hunter doesn't really fit. What constellation has a thief, maybe trickster or anything related story tied to it? Maybe a name of a star that "disappears" not the depending of the year but it flickers in and out for unknown reason?

Please any help possible is greatly appreciated!!

This is the small emission nebula in Vulpecula constellation taken with a SkyWatcher Quattro 200p and Zwo asi183mc-pro camera

I find it real funny that these two weirdly shaped moons of mars were named deimos (the greek god of terror) and phobos. Like which astronomer looks at these (irregular-shaped!) moons and thinks "oh yeah, these are terrifying. deimos, phobos." 🙏🏻😭

First time shooting the moon with the Sony a7rv. Learning curve vs. the Nikon Z8. Shot with Takahashi TSA-120 and TeleVue 2x Powermate tracked on ZWO AM5. Shot 440 RAW images at ISO 100, 1/13s, and aligned in PIPP, stacked in Autostakkert, and sharpened and processed in Photoshop. Looking forward to really figuring this Sony combination out.
