Growing up in my estate in the 2000s, every summer there would be a big party where all 4 buildings (in a square layout) would meet up when the first bit of sun came out. It wasn't just ours but others around the area.

Now I haven't seen any in the past few years and this is in different places.

There was always music and BBQs as well as kids entertainment like balloons and face painting.

I feel like it is a shame as people don't really know their neighbours and council estates tended to be tight knit with helping out eachother. There was always a guy who worked for a company and would do a guvvy job for cheap after work.

That it's so bad you can appreciate it for the unintentional laughs.

I’m an American watching Blue Lights. I have tried googling some of my questions but can’t really figure out the nuance. Are cops really this hated in Northern Ireland? Cops check their car for bombs every morning and sell their homes because of a random threat? I’m not fully understanding the marching band in S2? I have questions about religion and politics too and how it all intersects but that’s for another time lol.

Like the typical working poor lad who had a military dad and rough uncles. That played a tough sport (rugby) at a high competitive level, may have been a football hooligan, known as the town brawler. Eventually decided to go into an occupation that monetized this trait (cop, bodyguard, soldier, bouncer/doorman, prison guard, combat athlete, personal trainer, fire brigade or eventually an actor lol).

I’ve recently started paying more attention to my workouts and nutrition, and I’m looking for a high-quality shake or protein powder to help increase my daily protein intake.

I’m mainly looking for a product suitable for use around workouts, something easy to prepare and with good nutritional value. I’ve seen people here on Reddit mention Shake That Weight as an option for shakes and high-protein products, but I’d like to hear from people who use these kinds of products before spending my money.

In the US, when I was growing up yall was mostly used in the southern states and in the north they said “you guys” but because of tv and movies, most of the younger generation across the entire US started saying it in casual conversation. I don’t say the word Ain’t very often but I was told growing up that I should be saying am not because ain’t sounds unintelligent.

Watching Starmer's final speech and Burnham's opening speech, I was struck by how those standing around (presumably Labour supporters) wildly and loudly cheered and applauded at nearly every sentence (with lots of "whooooooooooo"). This struck me as very American (and unBritish or at least not following the usual reserved/understated stereotype).

Am I correct in saying that 50 or even just 30 years ago, they would at most have just occasionally politely and relatively quietly applauded (and certainly would not have made the frequent loud vocal whoooooooooo cheers)?

Is this practice now common in most scenarios/walks of life in the UK (e.g. if a CEO, head prefect/student councillor, football team captain is making a speech to employees, team/council members, or supporters)?

Or is this just in politics?

A foreigner who made their success in the UK despite maybe struggling to get a break in their home country at first. But is still tethered to their home country and isn't completely disconnected from them.

I know we all change, but it’s sad and common to get over someone who was once your friend, and think it was forever but wasn’t. Talk about that friend you had memories with, and when the last time you heard from them was.

Around 2011/2012, I went to an education centre and sat next to my friend in class. We talked about Disney, The Simpsons, and pop culture in general, had a laugh, and shared silly stories. The centre was boring, but as it closed that year, he did volunteering in a charity shop, and I went to another college. I emailed him to ask how he is and still write stories to him, but not many replies. The last I heard from him was in 2016, and nothing since. That’s when I knew he changed. I do miss him still, but I don't have any regrets as it was fun times. I wonder what he’s doing today.

throughout my travels in britland having gone to a lot of bars what ive rarely seen really is guys buying girls drinks. Over the pond its pretty common stuff, buy a girl a drink, spit some game, if she likes u then boom. Doing this in britland a lot of girls seemed caught off guard.
