where could I possibly find to watch the loop (2024) which was first release in Estonia during the tallin black film festival

My MIL is desperately trying to remember the title of a movie she would like to re-watch and none of the AI, Google, etc has been of any help. So hopefully the power of humans will work.

Movie takes place in a rural beachside/fishing village. The woman in the movie is dying of some terminal something - but she is not old and doesn't lose her hair (so probably not cancer?). The movie features her husband and child (she doesn't remember if it's a boy or a girl). The movie features lots of scenes of clouds, gardens/trees, wind and sky and the passage of time she observes from her bed. She is eventually bedridden by the end of the film. Her friends, possibly a singing group from a religious group that she is part of, come to her house to sing with her towards the end of the movie. Then her family moves her bed into the garden where she can observe nature and the sky as she dies.

MIL believes it is a Japanese movie, but could be Korean. She said it might be black and white but isn't sure - but that it isn't garishly colorful. She says it is delicate and poignant.

Not sure if this will help much but she saw it in a movie theater in São Paulo (probably an art exposition so not necessarily a major theatrical release) subtitled in Portuguese. She said she came across it in a streaming service also subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese but looking through them she hasn't found it.

An event happening from time to time.

Someone recommended Monster (2023) to me, so I went completely blind. This was my first-ever Japanese movie and honestly my first step into Asian dramas. I didn't expect to feel this much.

What got me immediately was the multiple POVs. Every time the story shifted, I thought I understood everything! And then I realized I didn't. It made me question my own assumptions in a way Western movies rarely do. No clear villain, no easy answers. Just very human messiness.

And that open-ended ending? I'm still thinking about it. What if they- - ? Ahh! It doesn't spoon-feed you with emotions; it trusts you to sit with them. It felt quiet, tender, and devastating all at once.

I loved how subtle yet powerful it was. No overacting, no dramatic music forcing feelings, just raw emotion building slowly until it hits you.

If this is what Japanese films are like, I'm officially in!

I believe it’s from Thailand or the Philippines, but I’m not 100% sure. Here’s everything I can remember:

• It’s set in a rural village
• The main character is a woman whose husband is physically handicapped
• A young couple visits the village and there’s a scene where they go into a wooded/forest area and make out
• There’s also a disturbing scene where the woman is harassed/assaulted by a man

A guy is chasing down a mystery, he's maybe a gangster or a private detective? But he's also trying to connect with his daughter and get her some thing she wanted for her birthday. The two stories revolve around each other a bit as he tries to manage both goals. He's a bit of a letdown, comes to her school recital late, loses the gift he bought her, tries to borrow money from his ex I think. But he's a good guy, the new husband ends up lending him the money I think. Turns out his other mystery has to do with two young lovers, one dead, a cemetary and rich parents of one lover trying to keep them apart even in death.

Two key things are that he drives a beat up old car, and at one point his hair is cut short and dyed green, making him a bit ridiculous.

On the other side of the world, however, horror films emerging from the Japanese film industry were only just peaking in popularity. Instead of employing buckets of fake blood, jump scares, and post-produced screams, Japanese filmmakers were taking a more restrained approach to the genre.

Just finished watching Noriko's Dinner Table by Sion Sono. I liked the concept. I have two questions, or curiosities one can say: is it a trend in Japanese films to begin plot experiments with dysfunctional families most of the time? And do Japanese films have a typical approach to portraying gender roles — don’t you think along these lines too?
