Contribute to the “No Neighbor Hungry” Campaign to Feed Arvada Families in November

Hi Neighbors! Ryan Hecht, VP of Marketing with the Greater Arvada Chamber here.

As you know, the government shutdown has left thousands of Arvada families without access to critical food benefits. The "No Neighbor Hungry" gift card drive is designed to help families put food on the table and support the local economy in the process.

You can help us raise $50,000 in donations (2,000 gift cards of $25 each) this month!

For this drive, we will distribute gift cards to select Arvada non-profits that primarily provide food assistance and have been negatively impacted by the government shutdown, including Community Table and Hope Connection and Community.

Jeffco Jury Duty Sheriff Scam

If you receive a call from a person saying they’re part of the sheriff’s department and you missed jury duty, it’s a scam. They will even spoof the real number. The sheriff will never call you and if they need to find you, they’ll show up at your door.

General Advice: If you are ever unsure about a person calling in, just hang up and call back the official number you can find on their website.

New to Old Town

Hello Arvada. We are a semi retired couple that just relocated to Arvada. We are not new to Colorado and have adult children in the area. What would you advise for socially outgoing folks like us to explore and make friends. We are musical and artistic. Thanks in advance !

Does anybody know what’s going on with these power outages?

This is the third power outage in the last month. I run a wood shop around 64th and Ward and it’s starting to affect my ability to run my business. I understand power outages happen, but why does it take them so long to get it back on? I’m from Louisiana and have had power turned back on faster during a hurricane. It’s a bit frustrating.

Is the Harkins theater next to old town extremely quiet or is it just me?

Been to see a few movies there and every single time I go the speakers are so quiet. Idk if it’s just me but I’m considering seeing the Odyssey there because I live within walking distance. Don’t want to go if I can’t hear the movie. & Yes I know I should see the movie in imax…

Toddler 1 year old summer activities in this heat

Looking to see if there are any organized activities for younger toddlers on weekends or in the early evenings/late afternoons to escape this heat. My kiddo loves hiking, and we’ve been doing that and driving to the mountains on weekends, but it’s not possible every weekend, and pools and lakes are too hot for a toddler for a prolonged time.

loose black dog on 64th Ave between Carr - Wadsworth this morning

This is tearing me up but maybe someone has info? There was a loose dog running east on 64th approaching Wads this morning about 11:15. Maybe 50 lbs, long black hair, colorful collar, running like crazy in the heat. I came out after it but it seems it got spooked closer to the traffic and started running back west. It got glanced on it's rear left leg by a pickup truck but didn't slow down at all. I started following it and watched it turn north on Zephyr towards the high school. I walked up that block and found a woman who said it had gotten into her back yard (it wasn't her dog) but when she opened the door it bolted again. She and I drove up and down all the streets between Wads and Carr, and I kept going into the neighborhood west of the school but I couldn't spot it again. It guts me thinking of that poor beastie running in the heat. I'm sorry I couldn't find it.

Personal Trainer

I’m a 73 year old guy looking for a personal trainer. I’m in really good shape but have a few things like a double fusion and a torn bicep tendon so I guess I would need someone that would know how to take those things into account. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Not really interested in joining a club, tried that before and it was very disappointing.

Anybody want a garden tower?

Hi all! My very well intentioned folks got me one of those hydroponic grow towers (possibly inspired by the recent parasite in the lettuce outbreak, knowing them). I have absolutely no room in my little apartment for it, and there's no gift receipt to return it (coordinating with my folks to do so would be a bit of a nightmare I won't get into).

Only opened the box to check it has all it's parts and it appears to be a full kit with lights, pH liqued, seedling cups, etc. I do not however see instructions or anything indicating the exact model or brand.

I'd like to sell it for $200 obo, since that's about the middle of what I see similar things going for on eBay. I'd be happy to bring it to you and can also share pics if desired. Just DM me!

It’s been a few months but I found the turkey trio in the Alta vista neighborhood. And yes I stopped to make sure they crossed Brooks safely 🤣. I’m not sure if it’s the same three from a few months ago because for a while I was just seeing 1 but I like to think these three are the original crew living their best life.

Confusion on Wadsworth/Ralston

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just a PSA, there are two turn lanes from Wadsworth to Ralston. However three cars just held up the light to turn left from the straight only lane. This was dangerous since there was already traffic turning from the correct two turn lanes. Please don't do this. Please drive safe and normal.

Plumb Pros (Arvada) charged us $759 for a $50 part during the heat wave

Wanted to warn other Arvada folks before you need AC repair. I called Plumb Pros (on 52nd Ave) when our AC died during the July 2026 heat wave. Tech diagnosed a bad capacitor, replaced it, no complaints about the actual repair. Then handed us a bill for $759.

Breakdown: $474 for the capacitor (these run $15-50 retail), $285 for a "diagnostic fee" after telling us the service call was free. Whole job took under an hour.

My wife is a night shift nurse, trying to sleep during the day, and was home alone, exhausted, just wanted the AC back on, so she signed. I called after to ask about the pricing and they told me flat out that's just what they charge and they're not changing it.

Fair price for this whole job (capacitor + labor) should've been $200-400. We got charged almost double the high end of that.

Posting this mostly so people know to ask for an itemized quote and maybe get a second opinion before agreeing to anything, especially if it's 95+ out and you just want it fixed. Invoice attached below if anyone wants to see the actual numbers.

Anyone have a company they've actually had good luck with? Looking for recommendations too.

My go to guy has been doing ALL of our HVAC repairs for about 17 years. In this specific situation I was forced to try to find a new reputable company. I chose incorrectly and want to warn you all about this company.

Looking for someone to meal prep 2-3 meals per week

I am looking for a person or meal service that would prep a couple of ready-to-heat meals for my family each week. We’re two adults who will eat anything, and two small kids who are a little more on the picky side. Doesn’t need to be fancy, but we’d would be looking for well-rounded dinners (protein + veggie + starch). We can pick up meals or work out a schedule to have them delivered.

Let me know what you’d charge, or if there are meal prep services in the area that you like!
