Got this from an older guy who says he was selling for a neighbour. Bought it for 200$ and now I just want to know more about it considering this is the first time I’ve owned one.

Never mind my shit aim, was just really excited that it finally fired. New firing pin works but only for commercial 8mm.

I'm at a point where I'm ready to finally start a "collection" of more than one rifle and every listing I see feels ridiculous. I don't want to be the reason though that people keep charging more. The next gun show won't be until December either and even my chances of finding one there are low.

I just bought my first C&R rifle that is an Arisaka 99 and was wondering if there’s anything that I should look out for that wouldn’t be obvious but can cause a failure.

The listing said it had 20 rounds put through it 20 years ago and has been well taken care of since so it is safe to shoot but, I would prefer being 100% certain I will keep all of my fingers if I shoot it. it is a 4th series Nagoya arsenal rifle but doesn’t have a matching bolt which I’ve read can cause headspace issues.

Bought a type 38 carbine with no bolt stop. Got one off of eBay. When the rear screw is halfway in everything works normally as seen in photo 1. If I go past half way when the treads start to get tighter in photo 2 the bolt stop won’t open at all even when a lot of force is given. Anyone have an idea of what the issue might be? Even without the ejector it does same thing. Thanks for the help!

The dust cover is a reproduction from World War Supply, had to modify it a bit so the bolt would cycle properly but now it’s perfect

Are the screws for the Cup style buttplate different from the earlier flat plate designs? I bought some screws a while back online and they didn't fit. but idk if thats because they were just for a different style or if I got swindled.

So I have questions.

Does everything look correct?
Approximately what year or range from this series mark?
Is it normal to have front site guards? I don’t remember that on any of the Tokyo made Type 38s.
The bayonet lug appears to match, but nothing else

Im curious about more info on this arisaka type 38 i bought at a gun show recently. Y'all be able to help any. It was listed as a type 38 police marked rifle.

Here are my two type 38 arisakas, one needs a timber replacement which im on the search for and the other is a clean example, from memory, the one that requires its timber replaced is a pre 1926 model due to the S and triangle thing indicating black powder testing or somethinf. However id like someone with more knowledge to fill me in as ive forgotten and can't seem to find the relevant info. Furthermore if someone is able to tell me which factory each come from and estimated years of manufacture, I believe the red one is tokyo or the new factory after the earthquake making it a 1935 to 1945 guestimate, and the other im unsure

Took my Korean War era US CAL .30 Type 99 out for a stroll this weekend. If you’re unfamiliar with these, the US converted a bunch to .30-06 in Japan after the war to supply to Korea as emergency aid. They have been forged over the years, but the best way to tell a real one is the phosphate finish (greenish), half moon cutout on the receiver bridge for the longer .30-06, as well as a extended and spot welded mag well. Mine tumbles with regular .30-06 M2 (which didn’t matter back then), so I’ve resorted to loading 7.7-06 rounds using .312” projos and it works great. I also transloaded some 7.65x53mm Argentine which did fine, and was a little softer shooting (the FMJ rounds in the pics). These are a very cool part of world and Arisaka history.

I have a 99 that I want to restore and would like your opinion on. This was given to me by my grandfather. He got it from his brother Ed who served in the navy in WWII. He said Ed pulled it from a plane wreck that he was sent to investigate. I don't know how much of that is accurate but that's what he said.

I believe what I have is a Series 22 Kokura. The series mark is faint. The mum looks either partially ground, worn or just a poor stamping and I can't tell which.

It has a wooden butt plate (forgot to get that picture), missing upper handguard wood, follower, lower band screw and rear guard screw. I've found replacements for the firing pin and spring, safety knob, and follower spring.

I'm also on the fence about refinishing the stock. I don't want to lose any of the character that tells it's story as I plan on keeping in the family for at least my lifetime. But I don't know if this is the original urushi finish or some lacquer Uncle Ed put on it. and I read that the urushi finish was toxic so don't know if I want to mess with that.

After reading a recent post about a type 30 carbine at a LGS that is clearly a cut down rifle, I decided to post up mine. I have done extensive research and have come to my own conclusions on this carbine but would like input from others. I believe I have a Type 30 rifle that has been Arsenal converted to a Type 30 Carbine. Honeycutt mentions a few examples of such a thing. My serial number is way out of the carbine range but I believe it is 405273. I believe the 3 was struck but they struck it light and moved over to the next spot and struck the 3 as in person there is no real number at all in that blank spot between 7 and 3. The original parts assembly number has been crossed out with a new number showing a re Arsenal where the carbine stock and carbine parts all match with no crossed out numbers. The Barrel is also counterbored which could be how they crowned a cut down barrel at the re arsenal. Any input is appreciated this was a deep dive!

Would you say that 350 is a good price for a late war type 99 with intact mum, I have a chance to buy one and I have a early type 99. I just feel like it would be a good buy atm

Local gun store has this listed as a Type 99 for $400. What’s the average price for these? It’s in pretty rough shape but has an intact mum.

Hello, im looking for use of Type 99s in the Burma campaign. Im trying to start a Burma campaign sup collection, and im wondering if a type 99 would fit in there. Currently, most photos of Japanese soldiers in this area seem to be armed with type 38s, which seems to be in line with the Japanese prioritizing type 99s for the pacific area.
