The Hungarian Geological Institute in Budapest, Hungary. Designed by Ödön Lechner, completed in 1899. [900 x 602]
Some fascinating details about this Art Nouveau masterpiece:
The architect, Ödön Lechner (often called the "Hungarian Gaudí"), intentionally integrated geological themes into the design. The stunning blue roof tiles were made by the world-famous Zsolnay porcelain factory, and their specific color and wavy shape were meant to symbolize the ancient Tethys Ocean.
The building is crowned with a statue of figures holding up a massive globe, and the interior flooring features cave-like mosaics. It's easily one of the most unique examples of Hungarian Secessionist architecture!

The National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia, designed by Fentress Architects, is distinguished by its 210-foot stainless-steel-clad mast that pierces a conical glass skylight. The mast evokes the iconic image of Marines raising the American flag during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
