Question Visual time drain? (not Speed Streak)

I'm working on gamifying my Anki so I might actually study it, and I find the timers helpful. However, since the timer is relatively small and in the corner, it is very easy to miss. I've tried to use Speed Streak, but for some reason it just refuses to work with some decks. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Discussion Any cool tips and tricks for Anki?

Been using Anki every day for one year now, is great I have some nice adds-on.

I have not played much with the custom deck or FSRS either aside from of course doing the monthly update of my cards.

I want to learn more about it. I am bad with reading instructions but any super good tutorials that explain about study custom and FSRS helper? I heard great things about it but been too scared to use it as I do not want to mess my cards.

Peace and that this a reminder to do your reviews today!

Question Anki for Academic Study from Language Learning

Upvotes

Hello! I come from Language Learning, where I don't to know every single one of my cards and can afford to leave some leeches unattended and some other shortcuts.
Gonna also be using Anki next semester for some classes of mine I suspect will require more memorization, that being stuff like History of Music, perhaps Philosophy & French Litterature (not sure how much memorizing there is in those, but probably birth-death dates)
What are some things I should know which are more specific to an academic usage of Anki?

Thanks!

Question Learning language with e book reader an anki

I'm looking for a way to read a book in a foreign language and, whenever I come across a word I don't know, highlight it, have it translated, and automatically send both the original word and its translation to Anki as a flashcard.

From my research, this is exactly how Koshi Reader works. However, it only supports Japanese.

Ultimately, I'd like to get this setup running on an Android e-book reader.

Could you help me with this?

Thank you!

Question Looking for a deck for English used in Logistics/Business/Academics Essays!

Hi there! I recently started using anki for language learning and fall in love with it... so much that I have been trying to drag my friend in 😂

Here the thing, she is not really good in English (at least on survival levels) and due to her studies to obtain a master-then-doctorate-later in her major (something along the line of logistics and business), she would need to read plentiful of essays, articles and sources in English. Those often comes with very difficult English vocabulary so I tend to be there to translate/explain to her instead of having her reaching out to chatGPT for gibberish translations😐

I feel like with Anki system of 20 cards a day might be useful to help her but I am currently stuck on finding which shared deck can be useful... I tried several decks but they were just "phrases"/"saying" that felt like it would only apply in the field and not something that can be used in an essay

If anyone has a recommendation then that will be useful!

Question Fluent forever method in Anki: woth it ?

Title says it all. Are there people following fluent forever principles using Anki as a tool ? I see they have an app but I really do not like having to pay a sub for something I could eventually do myself.

Add-ons Anki Add On Text-to-speech

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for an Anki add-on that can read my cards aloud using text-to-speech. Ideally, I'd like it to work on both Anki Desktop and the AnkiMobile app on iPhone, so the audio also plays when I'm studying on my phone.
Does anyone know of an add-on or a workflow that works well for this?
Thanks in advance!

i got a premade deck with about 2000 cards and learning about 10 new cards each day.

Now, there are certain cards that i would like to learn before others. Is the proper way in this case then to just go repositioning -> set start position to 1 on all unlearned cards i wann learn earlier?

Question Making decks for languages

Just wondering peoples suggested path for making decks.

What fields to use, how simple or complex, if you excel or other spreadsheets automation. If you use any add-ons or a new or old version.

I use windows and android so sync to the online version.

I found I was spending a lot of time making cards, maybe as much as learning, but my learning times need to be increased.

I have several books and audio to memorize at some point. I have been sick so it's on hold but I thought I should revisit my system and see if I could improve it.

Thanks

Question Does FSRS take card types into account?

If I have a card model with CN to EN and the reversed card, does FSRS take this into account when planning?

Learning to read a Chinese character is a lot easier than learning how to write it. Am I messing up the parameters by having these cards together?

Discussion Do you make a separate deck for each topic, or throw everything in one?

trying to figure out how people organize this and i keep going back and forth.

like say i'm adding vocab for totally different stuff, tech words, food/fruit names, random words i hear during the day. do you keep those in separate decks by topic, or just dump everything into one big deck and let the review algorithm sort it out?

i started with one deck for everything because it felt simpler, but now it's kind of a mess and switching between random contexts feels weird when i review. thought about splitting by topic but then i worry i'll end up with 15 tiny decks i never open.

how do you do it? one big deck, or separate by subject? and if you split them, what's your rule for when something deserves its own deck vs just going in the general pile?

Add-ons Learn2Rot: Earn screen time by doing your flashcards

Hi r/Anki! I made this add-on for myself, and I figured I'd put it online in case it helps anyone else out. It's called Learn2Rot, every time you answer a flashcard it gives you a couple (configurable) seconds that you can spend watching any media of your choice. Once you run out of time, you won't be allowed to play any media until you accumulate some more time. It's all open source and on GitHub, and it should be pretty easy to install through AnkiWeb too. If anything is broken or you'd like some features, please make a create an issue on GitHub and I'll try my best to fix it!

Here's the link! https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/317517318

Update: It should work on both MacOS and Windows now!

Question How to get card sort order to go my index?

I made a deck and the cards are numbered by frequency (language learning), so the most frequently used word has Index 1. However when I try to use it it's put random numbers in the "Due" column, like "New #6775", that doesn't match the index. Im using Ankidroid on android. Any easy way to fix this? I want cards to show up based on Index #.

*typo in title, *by index

Question I have FSRS enabled, yet my cards still display "Ease" instead of "Difficuly"

Hi!

I have been wondering about something for a while and figured I'd ask -- the info panel about some of

my flashcards displays ease instead of difficulty, which, if I understand correctly, is the metric

associated with FSRS, while the former is associated with the old algorithm. Why is that?

Here's an example:

I have been using anki for 4-ish years and enabled FSRS ca. 2 years ago when I first learned about it. Recently I had a feeling that my intervals were waaaay too long, so I restricted the review history portion FSRS uses to optimize parameters and things seem to work better now. However, on some of my older flashcards, I noticed this peculiarity and figured I'd ask. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!! :)

Discussion what do you do when you accidentally see the answer before responding the card?

for example if you pressed "show answer" by mistake or the algorithm put the reverse card just behind this one

i usually just answer "good" or maybe "bad" depending on how confident i feel about my future self. if i don't feel confident at all i might just bury the card but I'm not sure it helps much
