Idk if anyone’s talked about this already but “Im Not” is tucked between “Bros” and “Good girl/Carrots” while on the vinyl it’s after them. Don’t know if it was a last minute decision or a fault on one end.

Young Noah's first album. I have noticed that this his first LP is not anywhere on streaming and nobody is talking about it. Honestly I listened it 10 years ago and I remember only We Built A Robot and some other few songs, which I loved. Need to give another listen!

Hey yall, I wanted to share this chrome extension I made that's like a multi effect pedal for chrome. I thought I'd post it here because the idea is very Animal Collective adjacent (to me anyway). I always have an SP sampler running between my laptop and speakers and enjoy hearing stuff with a bunch of delay and effects on it sometimes. So here's a little jam with that idea built into the browser.

Extension is free and made with the hope that people have fun and make weird stuff with it. Knobs and on/off toggles are also midi mappable.

particularly in the second slide. i think it would be so sick to get a tattoo inspired by this (my favorite album of all time) but idk how i would describe that part to a tattoo artist or how well it would translate. lol

I just got my synth shipped back to me after 2 months of waiting for repairs so I'm super happy to have it back! I saved the sticker specifically for this lol I almost never throw out CD stickers

EDIT: Apparently Genius quotes the lyric as “Toddler” but I can’t be the only one who hears “Tartar”.

I understand not using the r word, but why not change the lyric from Kids On Holiday to “sympathize with the TODDLER being held by his mother, she’s got spit in her napkin-“ it just makes a lot more sense.

I've tried countless times with Reset, Tomboy, and of course, Person Pitch, but I just never click with Panda Bear's solo stuff. It's always perplexed me because I absolutely love psychedelic pop, art pop, and nearly every Animal Collective album, but his stuff always leaves me totally cold. It's always in one ear and out the other.

Meanwhile Avey's stuff has always been in constant rotation for me--Down There might be my favorite AnCo solo work, and Cows on Hourglass Pond has some classics. Really liked 7s too.

“If you keep on foolin’ in bed, with your sleeping patterns” from the second track of grass on, imo their best album, feels. The way avey says it and the fact it’s followed by the iconic chorus really makes it my top 3 favourite lyric

“If I could just leave my body for the night” from in the flowers on merriweather post pavilion is my absolute favourite lyric from them and the immediate shift in the song that follows is what makes it my favourite and I feel like it sort’ve accounts for their drug fuelled sound the song has

“And an obsession with the past is like a dead fly” from peacebone which is the intro to strawberry jam is my favourite animal collective chorus ever and especially this lyric shows it.

“All the Spanish bands use all the echo, Persian kitty better stay out of the train” from who could win a rabbit on sung tongs. I can never really explain why this is one of my favourites. It just is

Yes, yes, I’m aware that that they’re focusing on the physical format and respect the project for what it is.

However, I don’t collect physical media, and I’m not in a position to purchase equipment to play physical media at this time (single dad of two young kids, etc). I’d love to, but it’s not a reality for me. So at this point I can’t listen to the album.

I’d gladly pay for it on Bandcamp or iTunes, but they’re not on there at this time.

I LOVE EVERY. DAMN. THING. ABOUT GRAVEYARD!!!! especially panda's vocals in the verses and that wacky ass trumpet. it's probably my new favorite panda bear song. every time i hear it my brain just goes like POW! and it's amazing!!

a ? of when might be my album of the year.

A ? of When. I've been listening to it for a couple days now. I was a big fan of Reset when I first heard it, but then after a while it honestly started to lose a lot of its luster for me once I started listening to 50/60s radio whilst doing errands, so now I very frequently hear the original songs Panda and Sonic Boom sampled for the album.
With this current impression in mind I honestly didn't expect too much from the new album A ? of When... but now, I can confidently say that the reliance on sample usage in Reset was seriously only holding the duo back. This new record of fresh ideas and sounds is absolutely incredible.

I feel like A?oW one-ups everything from Reset that I would've wanted it to. I've heard that Sonic Boom's production on PB albums is historically a bit contentious with fans, but I believe only the best elements of his musical fingerprint show up on this album. nearly every song on the album has such a lush atmosphere comparable to Tropic of Cancer, which is arguably PB's most beautiful song. Moth to a Flame in particular feels like Tropic of Cancer in a state of just absolute Cloud 9 ecstasy. I could listen to it forever.
I'm really curious what the story is between it and Pray to You, as they seem to be two sides of the same coin. Anyway, the vocal effects from both tracks are so pretty and surreal at the same time.

This album is also the most I've ever enjoyed Sonic Booms's singing, (though I've always liked it). I'm actually sad he didn't have as much lead vocals on this album as he did on Reset, because he sounds awesome here. his voice alone makes the track Something Like Dreaming super hypnotizing and a personal highlight for me, in spite of the basic We Will Rock You beat.
Panda's voice on some occasions sounds a bit scratchy and is showing its age, but I think that's part of the charm, you can tell he kind of leans into it lately. he sounds weary and withered down in Never Givin' In, which is just perfect for the song's story and vibe.

The melodies themselves though are just as infectious as ever, man. I truly don't know how the guy keeps doing it so many years later, but he keeps impressing me with songs that are just effortlessly enjoyable to sing along with. Revive Him is crazy catchy, sounds like a close relative to Ferry Lady from Sinister Grift. And like I've seen other people saying, it could easily be a segment in a song like Carrots from the Person Pitch era. the vocal layering in the chorus is just true bliss.

all-in-all A ? of When really surprised and impressed me. it basically combines my favorite parts of Reset and Sinister Grift into one. I'm really wanting to delve into Sonic Boom's solo work now, so if anyone has recommendations for me, I'd be happy to know!

I've been an AC fan since probably 09, I remember the Pitchfork hype and was all in, quickly buying up everything. I remember buying the STGSTV/Danse Manatee 2CD set at the mall (!) and grabbing ODDSAC on it's release day from Best Buy (!!). And coming from a Beach Boys fanboy first perspective, I was hooked on the harmonies and fell in love with Panda most of all. I hold Person Pitch above most other recorded music (next to SMiLE & Pet Sounds). Hell, Noah even looks a little like the young Brian. Anyways, this is all to establish my bona-fides as a fan before I share my unpopular opinions.

I don't really like Sinister Grift. I think it sounds great and his voice is wonderful, but I get nauseas when I listen to the album. I'm serious. It's a physical thing and I think it's conditioned from when I first heard it, which is too bad. The melodies annoy me and I don't know why! I wish I loved it like you guys. However, the last 3 tracks are peak Panda Bear for me. Left in the Cold & Elegy are two of my all time favorites; they give me the spine tingling feels. Maybe when he drops a live album I'll like it more. I couldn't go to the show I had tickets for the SG tour because I was in rehab. Shucks, might have clicked if I had. Sober now, 9 months today!

PBVTGR is definitive in my book (considering Person Pitch is with the gods, never to be equaled). But my favorite song from this album isn't on the album. Faces in the Crowd is my favorite from this period, from the Mr Noah EP. This tour was fucking intense. The sub bass that he added and the psychedelic flourishes on each track plus the transitions sent me to another dimension and I have yet to experience a live sound like that again. (saw him in Asheville, NC on that tour)

Buoys is an all time great. It's impossible to rank AC & PB, but I listen to this one constantly. It's his most consistent album. Not sure why it's not more beloved. I did find the tour prior to this album's release that featured Buoys and Homies tracks was a bit boring compared to the Reaper tour.

Sonic Boom's production is so good and saved Tomboy from being a flat mess. He brought the same echoed and psyched out production to MGMT's second (and best) album too. I saw Panda when he was working on Tomboy, and was dropping singles. He was great, and punishingly loud. He asked every fan a question with his drones, and he sang louder than I've ever heard - it was intense and the singles sounded great live. I remember being on the CollectedAnimals forums though when Pete Kember, Sonic, first latched on to PB. He was so reverent about Noah's voice. He wrote effusively and poetically about it on the boards, and answered questions about being asked to produce and bring an album together. Noah had some great ideas, but the songs were so skeletal that it needed something, and Sonic brought that something. When Tomboy dropped, it was a revelation! The springy sounds on the title track, the cavernous echo, it all worked so well. And then they gave us the Box Set with all of it!! What a great period for PB. I have bought every Sonic Boom production since. My least favorite of his work lately has been his solo albums and, honestly, the tracks that are most influence by him on Reset.

And finally, it's not unpopular I don't think, but I love ? of When immensely. And the sirens on the title track are great and not the least bit annoying or distracting. Just my opinion. They come up so predictably that I couldn't mistake them for real ones. The album is so much slower than I expected, trance-like. Graveyard is so good it's almost out of place. They would have said if it were, but it sounds like a leftover from the spirit of Reset. The dub version of Reset is the best version.
