Hello everyone.

So for a long time I have been feeling more and more Christian, drawn to faith and its values. I have struggled to come to terms with this as I have been raised by an agnostic father and semi atheist mother so have never been to church or attended services before, and also struggled to find a branch of Christianity that aligns with my own beliefs and values, and have decided that Liberal Anglo-Catholicism within the Scottish Episcopal Church fits me best.

I am just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about Liberal Anglo Catholic churches in the Lothian and Borders region? And also how I approach going to a service or how to approach a priest? I would also like to join a Bible study if possible and things like this so I can educate myself and learn more about the faith I want to join.

I've a question about what has been called (unfairly, I've been told) the theology of 'taint,' namely that some traditional Anglo-Catholics will not receive the Eucharist from a (male) bishop who has laid hands on a woman to ordain her. What is the theological reasoning for this?

Although I don't agree with the theology, I can understand the logic of why a traditionalist would not receive from a female priest or bishop, because I have a high view of the Eucharist and want sacramental assurance for myself when I receive (eg, I want to know it is someone episcopally ordained in the apostolic succession).

But what is it that makes the Eucharist invalid when offered by a male bishop, validly ordained by another male bishop? I don't understand the logic of that. And does the Society (SSWSH) have a variety of views on that, or do they have a fixed policy?

A few months ago, I mentioned in a post that I was considering "rebaptism." I had a conversation with my pastor about my views on baptism and my desire to be baptized as an adult. He explained that he needed to speak with the bishop before we could proceed with catechesis. Last week, he was finally able to do that.

I spoke with my pastor on Sunday and was told that my infant baptism is valid because it was Trinitarian, so I cannot be baptized again. Baptism is only given to infants and adults new to the faith. I also learned about something called conditional baptism, which I am ineligible for since it’s meant for those who weren’t baptized with the Trinitarian formula.

This is what I expected, and it won’t prevent me from joining the congregation I’ve been part of since March, as I believe baptism is a one-time act and cannot be repeated, even though I hold to sacramental credobaptism. I wanted to clarify this before starting catechesis.

There are other secondary issues where I differ from the Anglican Church, but those can be addressed properly when we discuss the correct questions in the catechism, if that's the correct way to handle that.

With that in mind, I should begin catechesis soon, with all my initiation rites scheduled for January 10th. I say “all initiation rites” because I will be reaffirming my baptismal vows, receiving confirmation (for a second time), and being received into the church. I chose to undergo confirmation again since my UMC confirmation wasn’t administered through apostolic succession, despite the UMC having bishops.

So Canada technically has two, the 1962 Book of Common Prayer 1962, and the 1985 Book of Alternative Services(BAS). The BAS was the result of revision work from 1970 to 1984 or so.

I know at the same period, TEC was doing a revision because I have my late wife's well used trial use paperback from her time in Bloomington Indiana.

I grew up with the 1928 Scottish Episcopal BCP form an earlier cycle of revisions

And for a final conversation starter or killer, is it time for another cycle?

I am 18, I have been considering taking on this journey for a long time as I have had this calling and this deep interest on all matters to do with faith and the liturgy and sacraments and continue to feel just a calling of devoting my life to God. I am going to attend my local CofE church tomorrow. I hope it goes well

This is quite nerve inducing for me as I attended this parish one year back one time, they were a very loving group of parishioners and had very reflective sermons and a beautiful communion. I really did feel comforted but I do feel a bit guilty that I let myself fall away after one service despite already speaking to quite a few people and setting out a plan with the priest there. They seemed theologically sound and very active in the local community

All I ask for before the morning is if anyone can spare a prayer for my continued devotion and just for confidence in how the service will go, I will greatly appreciate it and also any advice would be great.

Please pray for me. It's my first time serving as crucifer tomorrow morning in 11 hours. I think I've got all the steps, but my mind blanks when I'm nervous.

I'm still learning about Forgiveness restitution and how it all ties together. And I have a couple of questions, what if seeking restitution directly could cause emotional discomfort to the person you're seeking it from or what if restitution meant you ended up in jail i.e you stole something and owned up to it but in that process you found yourself doing 4 years jail or whatever it may be ......it sounds stupid but I'm just giving possible examples.

And is restitution a condition to receiving Gods mercy and salvation? and if so then why in the Gospels do we not see Paul going to the families of the people he murdered and owning up to his crimes nor did he turn himself Into the Authorities for those crimes that he did commit. BTW I love Paul but he was really brutal towards the early Christians.

So then would it be fair to say that Paul's restitution was that he amended his life even though he didn't actually seek restitution individually. Or in Paul's case could he have made restitution by supporting his victims 'families anonymously like buying their food or building them a house . I don't know if that makes any sense and to be honest I don't really fully understand restitution and what it is.
