Be sure to read the "Please Read" section below.

Every once in a while we may find ourselves needing a little help. Of course r/Airbrush is a great place to ask for assistance.

Folks in this sub like helping each other, but we are not psychics. We need information to help find solutions.

Please provide some of the following information when requesting assistance (when appropriate):

  • Airbrush make and model
  • Compressor make and model
  • Paint or other medium you are using (what brand, which reducer/thinner?)
  • Have you done anything different lately?
  • Have you tried using just water, tear-down and cleaning, dancing in a hula skirt swinging a mongoose over your head?

Please Read: It seems that some folks think this particular thread is the place to ask their particular questions. Sorry, but no. Please create you own post containing your desire for assistance. Adding your questions here, along with others, is not the best way to get help. Once again, this is here to assist you asking for help, as many were looking for answers without providing much information to those willing to lend a helping hand.

Best of luck. Have fun

Update: Unsure how an airbrush works? Check out this video:

The link: https://youtu.be/eEmImXbrhGQ?si=_XgLNtK-3QpXuQFQ

It breaks down an airbrush into an exploded view to show how airflow moves paint, etc…

Shortened URLs. IMPORTANT. Please Read.

You may have noticed (or not) that some of your comments or posts are getting removed. /the culprit is Reddit's relationship with really short/tiny URLs. Reddit automatically removes these sitewide, and has been doing so for a while. Your friendly mod team cannot change this at present.

I admit it, it kind of sucks.

For example, some kind airbrushers are offering advice by sharing links to handy items on Amazon, and having their comments removed. I am not referring to people using their affiliate links to make a buck, but those kind enough to show where to grab a good deal on something such as a safety mask or airbrush par.

So far short Amazon URLs are the worst offender. There are supposedly ways for folks to remove all the crap from those really long Amazon links, but I will not go into that here.

I’ve bought a cheap 1/8th inch Compressed Nozzle Blow Gun Air Compressor Dust Spray Trigger that has a hose end nozzle size of 1cm. Does anyone know if I can get an adapter …. Both male ends that go from .8 to 1cm?? Means I can use it with my 1/8” air gun hose. Hope that makes some sense. Thanks

I got the ps289 and im painting a part with vallejo gloss black primer and i just can't seem to get it right. Tried doing it straight from the bottle, trying different mixtures of vallejo airbrush thiner and flow improver, tried messing with the psi and the distance of the airbrush from the part and I've come to the conclusion that I suck at this😅. Does anyone have a guess what im doing wrong?

Question Getting into airbrushing

Upvotes

I’m looking to get into airbrushing for custom transformer figures and other miniatures. I don’t have anything beside a respirator and want to be able to paint in my room in the comfort of ac. I have $350-$400 to spend on a set up. Is there any products you would suggest for a beginner? Thanks!

Question DIY spray booth questions

im looking to upgrade my booth and find something just right for my set up and DIY is looking like a good option. besides the fact iv never done anything like this before so im quite lost. all i really know is that I need to get a fan with enough cfm for the dimensions of the booth in order to properly suck out fumes. I want to work with lacquer so i think it has to be pretty strong. I also dont really know how to make the booth itself. I see a lot of boxy ones made out of wood and i can conceptualize making that but i still haven't really found anything that shows off directly how to do that really well, iv also come across a couple designs and like fans on the side or on the top and side. but i mostly see this slant with a fan in a back pretty much what my current one looks like. and i dont know the differences between these designs and what i should do.

so yeah any advice or resources would really help me right now

I'm still new to airbrushing so this has been an experiment with learning various techniques. Masking, using a shield, combining other mediums, etc. Here's a cute design I painted on watercolor paper. Most of it is airbrush with India ink, and some sepia acrylic ink. I used Golden high flow medium to delude the paint for more control over my transparent layers. Also, my pressure gauge is broken so I've been attempting to work based off the sound of the airflow. Not sure if that's practical. Peace!

Question Giraldez Infinity mkii upgrade from Infinity 2024 worth it?

Has anyone upgraded to the Giraldez Infinity mkii from the Infinity 2024 crplus? I’m tempted by the promise of finer detail work but it’s a decent outlay. I would love to hear from anyone who did the same on if it’s actually a noticeable difference in performance between the two brushes?

Question First time using airbrush will this thing kill me

Hello I just got myself a airbrush brush and pressure machine and Holly molly is this a bulky little machine well it’s not big but it’s a lot bigger then I thought one of these things would be my friend owns an airbrush and his is like 15cm in length and width and like 3 cm tall

Edit: The Harder & Steenbeck airbrush doesn't come with a cap, but there are tons of 3D printable files made specifically for this model online. So if you have a 3D printer, you can print one yourself in case you have the same brush.

Air brush paint issues

Hi all. this is my first post so sorry if I get anything wrong.

I was recently gifted my grandmother’s old airbrush and i am having an extremely difficult time getting it to work.

i worked the first time i test it, but that was about it.

Now, every single time i use it the paint wont come out of the nozzle unless i flick the trigger back and forth.

I’ve fully taken the device apart and cleaned it at least 4 separate times in the past 2 days and im kinda lost at what it would be.

I’ve also looked up a number of tutorials and each have recommended the same things (deep cleaning and making sure the needles is actually moving back), both of which i have done.

i have also experimented with different consistency of paint including slightly thicker to just about as thin as water but nothing is working.

The brand is kopykake if that makes any difference , and there is only one air setting that is not labeled so I have no idea the psi nor the year it came out unfortunatemy… but honestly i am just at a loss as to what the issue may be.

Any help is very much appreciated!!

Question Looking for advice on my first compressor

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve tried out air brushing recently and I really liked it! I’ve been thinking of getting my own set and want to buy into something that will make me enjoy the new hobby for miniature painting (40k), I live in an apartment and will be using it on the balcony. Preferably it is an enclosed compressor and I can move it easily anywhere.

This one caught my eye: https://a.co/d/0dfRO0FI

Question I'm back with a new problem: The airbrush sprays even when the trigger is only depressed for air

I've read that its caused by the needle not sitting correctly in the nozzle. I've tried moving it a bit with no luck, and i'm afraid of breaking something.

Can someone tell me how exactly it should be sitting within the nozzle? Its a harder and steenbeck ultra.

Question Constantly having problems. What could I be doing wrong?

I would also like to add that I make sure that my needle is not bent, have it at the correct psi, and clean after every use. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing wrong at this point, i’m honestly grateful if it sprays paint at all.
