This is about as normal Ainu dialogue can get 2 sisters bi-lingual and often using Japanese to confirm translation it is made for recording so it is not like if 2 ainu long ago were meatingon rhe street and some secret microphone later they discuss them selves in Ainu how converstion occured news gossip ironically u-we (ne-ws)-ar-a looks like news ne-ush things continue on going very few stories hade a dialogue like we write it is narritive what had been said and the teller takes a a role play so A I needs millions of word sets to create a conversation this Ainu conversation is a phrase book dictionary 1890 made for Japanese to research and do survey of Hokkaido tobuild a Japanese society in Hokkaido where Ainu will be speaking and at the time of writing the book Ainu were being displace and mixing and the book demonstrates that with mistakes by Japanese and Ainu building a phrse book based on German Meyer's Sprachfuhrer travel guide phrase books for tourism a set of quesions and replies but as we know from the book Jimbo explaines in his other works that at th time of collecting Ainu to make the book he got no response because they were being ask not to speak Ainu and yet the japanese were turning them into refugees displaced in their own vilages taking lang and all the dialects were being mixed and put into this book and all the topics are for the most basic everyday questions fundemental words to make a conversation about day to day living eating and for a traveller like a book for conversation communication for foreign students of English to work or studi in university there is lots of material words dictionaries now 2026 made from stories but ask AI to lay out a dialogue AI cn not do that it might explain in English the complex grammar

Hikaru Hayashi's Songs of Ainu

Im translating the lyrics as part of my master's dissertation, but Im having some issues in some parts (obs, some might be just vocalization, but I can't know cause its all katakana and I dont have acess to the recordings yet). Also, some might be onomatopoeia specific of the Ainu language, in which case its very important to know as well. Thanks in advance:

lumberjack's song:
イヨロローベハーウオ ヤエヤエ

Crane Dance:

アウホホ アウホウ

Boat Song:

ホホー

Menoko Yukar:

アイオロロオアイオロロオペハウオ

オロオウペハウオ

Whale Festival:

フンペヤンナフンポエ

ペシタヤンナフンポエ

インカノウタルフンポエ

サパインカルフンポエ

カーカーカーカー (I identified hunpe is whale and inka no utaru is people who observe, but I kept it there for the full sentence context)

Lament:

ホーホーホー

Swords Dance:

ヘヤラ

Hello, I need help with a word

I am researching about Ainu music for college and I came across this piece of composer Ito Noboru called Torohanroku-hanroku. The book I'm reading called Yōgaku Japanese Music in Twentieth Century states this means air, but right after it talks about a music name in japanese with a wrong name so Im a bit suspicious about this translation. can anyone help me with this? I didnt find any reliable sources.

Grammar Help!

Hi there! :D I am currently working on naming an Ainu character for one of my stories, and I've done some basic research to go about this. I am opting to make a new name with no prior understanding of the language so I need to know if this name makes sense grammatically, and is actually portraying the meaning I want to get across.

I've come up with the name menokohorkewnumaimi for "woman who wears the wolf's fur" but I'd even like something that means "Woman who wears the white wolf's fur"

This is just my attempt at stringing the words together as a beginner so I'm not sure how they should be properly used in a sentence. Any help is appreciated :) Thank you!

Ainu writing systems other than Latin/Katakana

How do Ainu people feel about using a version of Korean hangul to write their language (eg https://www.omniglot.com/conscripts/nuye.php )? Are there any other writing systems that have been proposed and seriously considered by the Ainu community?

Did the Ainu have their own version of sign language?

Hello, I've been attempting to find resources or any information on this specific topic for several months now and I was curious to see if anyone had any information on this. I'm doing a paper on disabilities in Ainu culture and really struggling to find a lot so if anyone has resources or information regarding that that would also be helpful!

Edit: Sorry was in a bit of a rush meant did/do in the title, if there is anyone that currently uses it I'd love to know and what that demographic is (for example hand talk is still used but its mostly by elders and deaf citizens of indigenous tribes)

Ainu word for “long nose” or “long nosed people”

It’s very silly but I’m writing a fantasy story featuring an Ainu village that will at some point encounter a bunch of tengus (the yokai/kami with a long nose) and the Ainus in the lore have their own name for them. So was wondering what could be the translation for ”long nose”/“long nosed people”/“those with the long nose” you get the gist! :>

Looking for information on Traditional Clothing

Hello, I am new here (incredibly new, I j joined). I was looking into Ainu Clothing to use for a character. And I was wondering if Ainu Clothing has differing trends or styles depending on the Region each Ainu Population is from. Greek clothing has a similar situation to what I’m asking about to the point where from one side of Greece to the other the clothes are essentially exact opposites. The specific kinds of clothing I’m looking into is for Tōhoku Ainu. Thank you!

Trying to put together a proper name for a blind character.

Hello r/Ainu! I apologize in advance as I'm probably one of hundreds of posters trying to find a proper name. I'm looking to create a fitting name for an Ainu woman who is blind, and/or keeps her eyes closed. In looking up how Ainu names work, I think I made a basic list of possibilities for names, but I don't want to make a mistake before I make it official.

Chupkemat - Woman who closes her eyes

Eyaishiknuinamat- woman who covers her eyes

Kamuktekmat - woman who shuts her eyes

Kemotmat - woman with blood shot eyes

Maimat - woman with caracts

Shiknakmat- woman without eyes

These names are most likely inaccurate, but hopefully give an idea of what I'm going for with this approach.

On another hand, I'm trying to get a name for a character with red eyes, and I think that's harder to do, so I'll gladly take recommendations for male and female names in regards to that aspect. Thank you so much for reading this, and I hope I haven't butchered the naming scheme too badly!

Why is that whenever reddit discusses ainu people, they always selectively pick ainu with more caucasian appearance, while leaving out those with a more east asian appearance. Are they trying to create a narrative that the ainu are European

Need help naming a character

I’m writing a book that has 2 Ainu brothers, and I’ve been scouring the internet and dictionaries to try and make the name myself but a lot of the info I could find contradicted each other so I figured I’d just ask ._.

I want the younger brother to have a name related to something lucky or fortunate in some way, and I want the older brother’s name to mean smth like person/child who plays with a frog
