Discussion How did you start coloring as adult?

Hello everyone, and have a great day!

I've been lurking on this subreddit for a long time and really enjoying the posts you're sharing. I've been too shy to share my own colouring pages because you guys are so talented, and mine always look like they took very little effort. I hope that one day I will post too.

My question is, how did you start colouring as an adult? I didn't even realise I would enjoy it before I found this subreddit. I would love to hear your stories, how long you've been coloring and anything fun related to topic.

In Mythographic Wild Summer illustrated by Joseph Catimbang

Legend says that where the river meets the sea lies a hidden beach that appears only to those with kind hearts. Its golden sands sparkle with enchanted gemstones, each one glowing with a tiny bit of magic. At the water's edge, a mermaid sleeps peacefully while playful otters stand watch, protecting her dreams.

Medium: gouache paint

Work in Progress Returning to my daily practice

I’ve been fairly good at colouring for a minimum of two hours a day. People are surprised. I ask: how long do you scroll for? How long do you stare at YT or video streaming? Do you read books? Crochet? Rebuild engines? It’s all the same to me.

What I have noticed is that my mental health is better. It is easier to moderate mySelf when I am activated. Totally thinking about starting an account somewhere to post regularly in order to help hold mySelf accountable. I think seeing all my work in one place will be helpful to me.

Side note: do you have thoughts on colour for the next stage? Open to considering a back ground or floor as well.

The first pic is my first ever complete page! I think adding the rays of white from the window was probably a bad idea, but I don’t hate the way it looks.

I used this first page to play with patterns and learn how to use the markers. Besides some bleeding into other areas // going outside the lines a little, what could I improve?

The second page I started before I abandoned ship to do the complete page I posted first. I HATE how it is looking. The colors, the messy shading, all of it. What can u do to make it look decent? I’m trying not to tear any pages out so I can see my progress over time.

Discussion Is Colorit still in business? Or just liquidating existing inventory?

Upvotes

Does anyone know if ColorIt is still in business and if they are still restocking out of stock items? I’m really wanting Ancient Civilizations and Goddess, but I’m wondering if waiting for a restock is pointless.

I placed an order for two books from them that showed as delivered, but they never arrived. I tried calling the number listed on their website, but the person who answered said it was a different business and that they have been sending ColorIt information for over a year asking them to remove the number from their site.

I also haven’t been able to get a response through email, and they don’t seem to have much of a social media presence anymore. Does anyone know what’s going on with them or if they are still operating?

If anyone has either of the books I’m looking for or knows where I can find them, please let me know. I’d really appreciate it!

Discussion Which paper to buy to print my own designs to color with pencils?

I'm using an HP Color LaserJet Pro printer and Faber-Castell Black Edition pencils. I create my own AI coloring pages and want a premium coloring experience at home. Which paper do you recommend? Clairefontaine DCP, Bristol, cardstock, or something else? I'd especially like paper that allows layering and blending with colored pencils.

Discussion Looking for woodland themed recommendations!

hello all! i recently completed what was my favourite colouring book to date, and am seeking recommendations for similar ones. It was called brown bear wood: a search and find colouring book by Freya Hartas.

if anyone knows of similar books with the following qualities, please let me know!

  1. No AI
  2. woodland themed
  3. intricately designed with lots of foliage/small animals

  4. similar vibe to the one i mentioned or the brambly hedge colouring book

thank you in advance!

Advice Wanted Tips for using water soluble pastels/crayons in coloring books?

Post image
6 Upvotes

This was an experiment because I’ve never used them before and wanted to see how they look and feel. I felt like no matter how much I used my brush to blend with the water it just looked so streaky and terrible especially at the bottom where I added the red violet color 😬 It just got worse the more I tried 😂😭

Is this normal? Is it better to apply a heavy layer of the pastel prior to wetting it or is a lighter application better? Thank you 🙏🏼

Coco Wyo x Ohuhu advice

I found the set on Amazon being sold on Ohuhu’s storefront! I’m so excited!! This will be my first Ohuhu set so I was hoping for some advice?

Right now I use the shuttleart 121 set and I have two Cocowyo books from target, one from Amazon, and some printed reference sheets on copy paper. Should I avoid using the Ohuhu on copy paper?

Experimenting with acrylic markers and alcohol markers on this page. I’ve got to figure out how to create textures using something other than dots, but for now, I’m enjoying adding some variety to my pages.
